Did anyone hear her on Today Prog Radio 4 this am?

MissAdventure Sun 16-Oct-22 16:56:03

I'd say it depended on the people whose parts were commented on.

Certainly, people are keen to hear Miriam's chat, from what I've seen. ..the beautifully hung young man didn't seem to object, and he looked well over the age of consent. (In any country)

Callistemon21 Sun 16-Oct-22 17:00:21

MissAdventure

You mean the ones who were mixing in circles with sex traffickers, and so on?
The kind of men that actively pursue young women?

That wouldn't apply to Miriam, as a lesbian.

No
That is not what I mean

MissAdventure Sun 16-Oct-22 17:01:46

Well, what do you mean?

I don't even know what I mean, really, so I can't decide what you mean. smile

Although she regales us with tales of how she used to.

Callistemon21 Sun 16-Oct-22 17:03:11

Young men.

LadyHonoriaDedlock Sun 16-Oct-22 17:03:46

Miriam Margolyes has been a hero of mine for decades. Good on her for speaking her mind bluntly.

MissAdventure Sun 16-Oct-22 17:13:23

Well, she only regaled those who are interested in her tales.

I found people on here saying what fun lady someone or other was, on "I'm a celebrity" harder to stomach than anything the tiny bit I've watched of Miriam.

No I didn’t, but going by other peoples comments I guess as usual she’s very rude. I’ve seen her on the real marigold hotel and her own travel programme, she does have some nice ways about her but it’s a shame with her language and her farting through the show, rude.

That wouldn't have much impact on the radio.

MissAdventure

I didn't find her a bit show offy.
She merely talks about bodily functions, and that's fine by me.

She talks about more than just body functions. As mentioned, she comments on body parts, including of people present, and tells disgusting stories about her strange sexual encounters, all the time with that smirking smile on her face as if she has no idea that anyone would be shocked.

If a man behaved like that he would be in deep trouble.

MissAdventure Sun 16-Oct-22 19:09:25

The thing is, though, that a lot of people aren't shocked.

Callistemon21 Sun 16-Oct-22 19:22:56

Well, she's got everyone talking about her
Again

?

Whitewave is right.

That in itself is shocking. ?

I liked Bob Monkhouse

Me too.
Have you ever seen his joke books?
There are amazing

Elspeth45 Mon 17-Oct-22 08:29:22

Can't stand the woman, find her very vulgar

Elspeth45 Mon 17-Oct-22 08:31:39

Can't stand her, find her very vulgar

Chestnut Mon 17-Oct-22 10:32:20

Those who don't find her shocking, and who actually like her, need to say whether they would find the lewd behaviour and sexual innuendos acceptable if she were a man?

There are lots of posters who support her, so what's the answer?

Yammy Mon 17-Oct-22 10:41:53

MissAdventure

I've just finished watching all of Miriam's moments on Graham Norton, and she hasn't said anything tooo bad.

She has a very beautiful face, too, which I never realised. smile

You obviously missed the one when she said what she did in her knickers when I think it was Sir Lawrence Oliver she met. She used an expression that had to be explained by DD we were all sitting watching Sl included and it was very crude indeed nothing to do with incontinence.

volver Mon 17-Oct-22 10:43:03

I can't answer because I do find her shocking. The difference is that I don't condemn her for it and don't expect her to shut up.

I realise she is playing on her character and reputation to get work, and to make us question the standards we set for what we consider to be acceptable behaviour in elderly women.

Chestnut Mon 17-Oct-22 10:55:48

So is her behaviour acceptable, and would it be equally acceptable if it was a man? My point is that she is getting away with it because she's a woman. Any man behaving like this would be condemned by all and sundry. That's double standards.

Chestnut Mon 17-Oct-22 12:30:14

I see this thread has gone silent. All her fans are now unable to justify her behaviour. That is disgraceful. I rest my case.

MissAdventure Mon 17-Oct-22 12:34:29

Not quite so fast! grin

I don't see what there is to justify.

Has she abused anyone?
Beaten up a vulnerable person?

If her talking about her knickers and what went on in them, then it's not the worst thing, is it?

MissAdventure Mon 17-Oct-22 12:35:22

Something like that, anyway.

I know what I meant.

volver Mon 17-Oct-22 12:37:57

Oh OK, what disgraceful behaviour is it which you object to so strongly?

I've been trying to spare some people embarrassment by having to explain that what is seen to be offensive is often to do with power. I would have thought that many people would have seen that, but no, ignorance is bliss, apparently.

Margolyes talking about sex the way she does holds up a mirror up to the sexist society in which we live, where it is men who have the power, not the women, Making the arguments "ooohhhh she wouldnt get away with it if she was a man" is missing the point. They've been getting away with it for centuries. The way she behaves is overturning mores. She's not daft.

This is my opinion. You may disagree.

Doodledog Mon 17-Oct-22 12:39:57

I am not a fan, but I don't like the assumption that anyone who doesn't like her public persona feels that way because she is a woman. I would feel the same about a farting bloke who kept making lewd comments on programmes about old people enjoying later life.

It's not about sexism, or about prudery - I just think that it comes across like a child pushing the boundaries to get attention, and that is not something that I find attractive.

Sir Les Patterson, for instance?
