I agree (depending on how it's handled). A lot of people seem to think that consent can't be withdrawn, or that kissing a man is agreeing to sex. It's not a bad idea to use the characters to show that that's not true. I do think it's more effective to have one serious 'issue-led' storyline at a time though. There are a lot just now.

Yes. One day he’s being a staunch support to his abusive, alcoholic father, and his drippy, diabetic, body dysmorphic girlfriend. The next, even though he’s just been told he’s got a proper trade and secure job at last, which should be the best news he’s had for, well, ever, he’s stomping round like a spoilt child, sulking and lying, then straight on to cheating and raping. And now we’ll have to put up with yet more long dreary months of Summer emoting, and the three dads and Steve over-reacting and over-acting.

And poor old Amy’s already had the spiking storyline and the drug-dealing boyfriend. You’d think she was due a break.

I suspect that, sadly, Amy's situation is not a rare one these days. Probably well worth including as one of the new apparently issue driven Corrie stories.

Did Amy not say that before she passed out she had been taking off Aaron's clothes? I agree she could have said no at any time but that did not appear to be the case.

As she was unable to say yes, then he raped her. What she was doing up to the point of passing out is neither here nor there. She did not consent.

Who looks after baby Alfie while Abbie is working ? He can’t be at childminder Gemma. Whatever happened to that storyline? And where are Glory and Bertie being looked after? It seems childcare is easily available in Corrieland.

I do understand the implications but she had knowingly put herself in the situation of being unable to consent and he was in the same state too it may officially be rape but in my head it isn’t
If he had got her drunk and not himself or even if she’d got herself drunk and been incapable and he wasn’t or if in her drunken state she’d said no or stop then yes it would be rape but the two of them were equal there was no nastiness there was no intent to hurt her they both got drunk willingly together She was all over him until she passed out and he had had no signals to stop he was on sexual autopilot
Technically it may be rape, but did he even realise she’d passed out I doubt it they were both to blame

I do understand what you are saying. They shouldn't have got into that situation, and IMO there is a certain amount of mitigation in the fact that they were drunk, but all the same, men can't think that being on 'autopilot' is a thing, or that beyond a certain point they are entitled to sex. Drunkenness isn't a defence in law. He knew she was unconscious - before removing her knickers he tried to wake her but couldn't. I think it was rape. Not something he'd have done sober, probably, but still rape.

Good grief, can Corrie get any worse? It’s one issue after another as if the writers/producers believe we all need to be educated.

It has become too political/woke/issue led, whatever it is called, for my taste.
I dip in form time to time. Watch half an episode and dissappear again for several episodes.

Missed the rape/whatever it was altogether.
Missed some Stephen stuff.
Missed the refugees need something or other stuff.

I think they shot themselves in the foot with giving Gemma the quads. Interesting and fun storyline initially. But longer term, and kids are long term! ridiculous. I suspect the producers did not think it all through.

Oh dear. I come on here to read what is happening. I now record all Corrie and then can fast forwrd a lot of it. Each time I read this thread I hope tosee the awful Stephen story has finally concluded (fast forward allof his scenes). Now getting that way with the Stalker story.

I do know that a few years back a former partner of one of my daughters left a message on MY phone. My daughter had already reported him as stalker and the police had been very helpful and supportive. When she told the police he had phoned me they went straight into action, visiting him and warning him that if he made any further contact with either of us he would be arrested. He never did. So, I am finding the police in Weathersfield rather strange and very different attitude to those in an East London borough.

I do t mind the odd issue if well done but they get dragged out interminably. It’s good to get the humorous characters given some storylines , but they are few and far between. At the moment we’ve got serial killer, date rape, stalking, refugees, racism and far right, psychopathic child, Paul’s mystery illness, Max in prison, Fay’s misery, and that’s just the ones I can think of.
