He hasn't been officially diagnosed yet, though - I suppose he's waiting to know for sure before telling people. And to come to terms with things himself. He shouldn't have been told that it was suspected MND, should he? Far better to wait until there is no doubt than put him through what may be unnecessary worry. I guess Billy was working, and Paul thought he was suffering from a trapped nerve, so didn't think he needed support.

Paul played his part very well tonight I thought. I can't imagine how dreadful it must be to get that diagnosis.

I don’t think a doctor would have gone into all that detail including a 3 year life expectancy, it would have been much simpler, a ‘we need to do some neurological tests before making a judgement’ …..then you d run home and google it

Some difficult subjects are being addressed recently and I know on social media the Amy/Aaron one has raised many hackles. I only said that alcohol had a lot to answer for when a young man made awful decisions due to having so much booze and was shot down as though I was a mad woman. I wasn’t justifying his behaviour, nor excusing it, simply saying if he hadn’t been drunk like that this would (most likely) never have happened given the way they portrayed his personality. I hate the way that everything you say is taken wrongly and you are not allowed to discuss all the rights and wrongs these days. Such a shame, free speech anyone?

I agree. I suspect it's not a rare event either. Worth highlighting in a mainstream soap.
Re Paul: I wonder too.

It strikes me that Paul will get himself into all sorts of trouble thinking he is dying. Then he'll be in all sorts of trouble. I could be wrong. I often am and yes I need to get out more.

I think Paul does have MND - someone from an MND charity was consulted about it, and was happy about the way the story will raise awareness.

The Amy and Aaron story is tricky, as they have presented it with more nuance than is often the case, and it could give the impression that 'date rape' cases are always like that. It must be difficult to get the balance between writing stories that people are interested in and seeming to be Making A Point. We know that Amy said no, which means that it was rape. Maybe if the viewer was unaware of that it would have been better? Or maybe not - I'm not sure. As it is, we are expected to believe that Aaron wasn't sober enough to know what he was doing, but sober enough to do it. He didn't deliberately get Amy drunk, or spike her drink, but he knew she couldn't consent. It's not a straightforward case, and if someone has (or has a loved one who has) been a victim of date rape they are likely to get upset to hear others defend the perpetrator.

I’ve watch Corrie for all the time it’s been on TV. I recall the 1st episode when I was a child. Recent years has brought some very dark stories.
I stopped recording it when it started to be a version of Eastenders type stories. It’s now gloom and not worth the time watching.
Please can we have the innocent Corrie back?

My message was really that alcohol makes people do things they would never do in ordinary life. What happened is appalling, but the message about how alcohol influences decision making is getting lost. I think it’s an important one.

I'm just here to say that I agree that the Stephen character is horrible, but I just keep thinking back to Pat Phelan and will accept the Stephen story going on forever compared to the horror that man inflicted (mainly on the viewers). I also agree with those of you who think the Amy rape story is valid, but tenuous and it's sad that the character of Aaron has up to now, been a sweet, sensitive lad and wish they hadn't dumped this storyline on him.

I might be getting shot down, but I don’t dislike Damon. Yes, he’s obviously been a baddie, but he seems to have redeemed himself in some ways. I predict he will stay in the storylines, and before long we will forget his murky past.

Sarah obviously fancies him and her flirting will get her into trouble.

I think they are handling the MND storyline well apart from the short time he had to wait to see a specialist after the GP referred him.
Paul pushed the specialists to say what it could be. MND is hard to diagnose and is a truly awful disease and its good that Corrie is raising awareness.

I watch it faithfully every week. But some of the storylines are getting a tad ridiculous now.

Tyrone, for instance. His character is being portrayed as being just plain thick and stupid, along with a few others.

They desperately need some new scriptwriters.
