I was a little concerned about the upset on the current series dropping on Netflix and the PR around this is just a drama..the first 2 episodes with the new actors didn't really inspire me..however Episode 3 about Sydney is very interesting and wondered if this was a true character and find that he was and enter Mohammed Al Fayid..and the purchase of The Ritz and then Harrods...fascinating series..

Because people hold different opinions?

Well, if showing respect for The Queen is being disagreeable, so be it. How can anyone compare 'I am a Celebrity' or 'East Enders' with the amazing life of our very recently departed Queen, is beyond me.

The Crown is a TV drama based on the life of the Queen and the royal family. It’s not a documentary. A lot of it is unquestionable tosh just like Eastenders and I’m a Celebrity.

Nobody is being disrespectful to the Queen by making a comparison. Quite the opposite.

our very recently departed Queen. ? I thought you lived abroad somewhere, Fleurpepper?

Yes I agree. Gransnet has become rather grumpy and disagreeable I feel.

There seems to be a lot of posters setting themselves as superior to others, which always makes me grumpy and disagreeable ;grin:

Yes, Especially when really good posters fall victim and are now removed.
It has all gone way OTT.

Lovely idea Iam64! Budge up on your sofa and we could enjoy it together.
😁

Along with the dogs?
Well that was good enough for The Queen.

Joseanne Sat 12-Nov-22 09:55:15

Ooops apologies, wrong poster's dog. Yours might not be allowed on sofas, Iam64.

Am I the only one who thinks Elizabeth Debicki is overplaying Diana’s mannerisms?

Her performance would be more at home in one of the spoofs like The Windsors.

She’s also way too thin. Diana was back to a healthy weight by the time scale portrayed in this series.

Are you deliberately misunderstanding? Nobody has compared Eastenders with the life of the Queen.

The comparison is in TV viewing habits, not the content of those various programmes which are all different. When people sit down in the evening they all choose something different to watch. And The Crown is not only about the Queen, it covers the whole family in some detail and tells their stories too.

Jose Anne , That spaniel has always been allowed on the sofa. The young lab wasn’t - partly to keep the spaniel’s superiority intact but mainly, to protect the young lab’s growing joints. He’s 2 years old so joints ok but since mr i died, the lab has taken to sneaking on the sofa to snuggle up with me. He’s huge and better than a heated blanket,
Urmston maybe I’ll have to brave the M60 and leave the sofa surfers at home

Aveline Sat 12-Nov-22 10:32:47

The episode about Mohammed Al Fayed was interesting and well done.

I agree re the mannerisms and the fact that she's way too thin - also too tall - but I think she has got the breathy voice and phraseology right.

You can tell I am a novice at this dog thing Iam64, my lab puppy is currently asleep on the sofa. In fact we frequently dont have enough room as he sprawls out.

Absolutely. And also my comment about Eastenders was in response to the frankly idiotic idea that the 'vast majority of the world' would think that The Crown was a documentary.

I suspect we are being taken for a ride, tbh.

Aveline Sat 12-Nov-22 11:46:22

Who by? Why?

Fleurpepper Sat 12-Nov-22 11:59:03

''tells their stories too.''

and here is the other issue, it does NOT tell their true and real stories.

And I can assure you, 100%, that many people all over the world do watch it, and believe that it is all true. Which is why Dame Judy is very concerned, as I am. No ride!

Chestnut Sat 12-Nov-22 12:06:12

The point I was making was that it is not only about the Queen but the other family members too. Obviously, the accuracy of their stories is another matter.

vegansrock Sat 12-Nov-22 12:13:47

So what if some people believe it? We don’t know what’s true or not. Some of it is basically accurate as we recognise the events. The fact is that we have a RF which is archaic in many ways, which people find fascinating as they have such rarified lives. Perfect for TV drama.

Iam64 Sat 12-Nov-22 14:18:48

How can you assure us 100% true that many people all over the world watch and believe it’s true Fleurpepper?
We don’t know. I’ve seen no research to confirm your statement.
I read recently that to gauge the temperature/belief systems in the UK, watch Gogglebox. I’m not a regular gogglebox watcher but my brief visits suggest you won’t get much past the goggleboxers.
Most of us know the crown is a drama, based on the lives of the RF. I enjoyed the trip through our history, the clothes and the excellent cast. The current Prince Phillip, Anne and Queen mother are disappointing in comparison to earlier actors. Dianna is far too thin, by this period on her life she’d had good therapy with Susie Arbach and looked very well.
I feel for William and Harry but in that I’m a rarity on gransnet where sympathy is saved for william

Bea65 Sat 12-Nov-22 14:57:28

I do agree with the mismatching of some actors in Series 5, am afraid I don't much like Dominic West as Charles and J.Pryce as Philip..much too old IMO..and also the new Diana, sorry but its switching me off a bit..but, this is a Drama and there seems to be a DRAMA on here..,am not disrespecting our late Queen Elizabeth II and hope both William and Harry are not watchingblush

Bea65 Sat 12-Nov-22 15:09:10

oh apologies to Mr Mohammed Al Fayed for misspelling his name ..

vegansrock Sat 12-Nov-22 17:06:37

Can anyone tell me who the blonde woman who goes carriage driving with PP in episode 2 is?I must have missed something.

Aveline Sat 12-Nov-22 17:28:01

Penny Romsey

merlotgran Sat 12-Nov-22 17:30:34

She’s Penelope Knatchbull, vegansrock, Countess Mountbatten, married to Norton Knatchbull, a cousin of Prince Philip’’s.
