I don't really understand why the royal family continue the performance of protocol with their relatives. I see why it is important to carry on the formalities in public because that maintains the role and hierarchy of a monarchy. But why curtsey and bow to your parents and grandparents indoors ? Bizarre family rituals
I think it was carried on into the 21st century for the Queen primarily, because that was the tradition handed down from the first half of the 20th century. Charles does not seem to require it, he has been seen behaving very much like a normal person! I think now the Queen has gone curtseying will die out, although it is possible to show respect by dipping very gently without all the deep grovelling. Women in dresses and skirts look absolutely ridiculous doing a deep curtsey and it makes me cringe. You need a flowing full-length Disney dress to look elegant when curtseying!
Love that!
