In this day and age curtsying to anyone is hilarious to anyone not gaslit into thinking certain people because of an accident of birth are superior beings.
If I had been fortunate enough to meet the Queen, I would have definitely curtsied, out of tradition and respect for the role of monarch.
Nothing to do with deference or a sense of inferiority.
I don’t believe that Elizabeth Windsor thought that she was superior to us lot.

It’s noteworthy that King Charles has been egged on two occasions (even before he has been crowned).
The Queen never had anything like that as far as I know.
The DoE said that she took applauding crowds in her stride because she believed the applause was for the role and not her for her personally.
