Not watched it - but may do at some point when nothing better to do.
I can't get it out of my head that Meghan was an actress - so find it very hard to judge if she is genuine or not.
I also think that this was a couple who had issues with the media and since they have made a new life abroad everything they do is the opposite - they seem to court the media. Trying to make sure that they won't be forgotten??

Actors are human beings, they bleed if you cut them, they have the same emotions as we do.

I am a hugger, especially family also close friends (and a couple of gransnetters), that is what I found so hard during Covid restrictions.

I know folks who served with Prince Harry in the forces and they haven’t a bad word to say about him.

Some families are huggy and some aren't.

Particularly in the UK. Go to Italy or many other countries, and try and find any family that isn't.

I remember hugging my MIL when DH and I got engaged.
She was startled and ramrod straight, I got embarrassed.

However, she did become more huggy over the years 🙂

Meh! Nothing I would say about any of this which everyone doesn't already know. Neither very interesting, nor unexpected. My take was that she never was going to be a great member of the Royal family a very good member of the Royal family, not unless there's a lot more Royal involved and a lot less family, if you know what I mean. Maybe future episodes will reveal a bit, but so far so fair.

If this is what M&H are going through, imagine the hatred and poison that would have been thrown at the Duke of Windsor and Mrs. Simpson.

I am just amazed at how so many people on this thread claim to have intimate knowledge of the thoughts and motivations of members of the RF. Where did this come from? Do people know them personally - even if they did I doubt they'd know as much as they claim about these people. They use first name terms, know all about the reasons the late Queen and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said and did everything.

I suggest that most of this "information" is either from the tabloids, or the imagination of those who made their mind up who the goodies and baddies were and see every little action as fulfiilling their preconceived prejudices. "Kate" can do no wrong, "Megan" can do no right, but best not to watch a TV programme in case you learn something that might question your view. The double standard is shameful: if "Kate" smiles it's wonderful, if "Megan" smiles it's attention-seeking.

I'm still waiting to hear of one single, objective FACT about the Duchess of Sussex that condemns her and I have been listening out. Just why does she deserve death threats? I fear this black and white thinking has an ugly name, and an ugly mindset. Have those who so roundly condemn this couple made any attempt to check facts, or better still, try and put themselves in others' shoes and show some kindness and charity to others? They might do well to try it, after all it's Christmas.

The sad fact about the advent of Social Media is that almost everyone who is on there will receive abuse, threats and even death threats. I don’t think Meghan is alone there.

Race, sex, religion, ethnicity, wealth whatever. Anyone.
You don’t have to be known to your abuser. Just not agreeing with them is enough.

Even some posters on Gransnet aren’t above doing it.

Well quite - I have been labouring this point to no avail. The determination to condemn is pretty darn scary.

Smoking was more accepted years ago - ask him if he remembers Blue Liners (the sweepings up from the floor!) and, of course, a daily tot was order of the day too.
Thank goodness Tony Blair stopped smoking in public places.

But you're right, I don't think there was the fear of going out at night years ago that there is in some places now.

Not just the language and not just in active service either. The language, the liquor consumption, the endless smoking all of which is seen as less acceptable now.
But try being in Plymouth or another port years ago when ships came in-better stay at home or risk being told they were just letting off steam!

Noisy, lots of smoking, drinking and interesting language. Funnily though, the F and C words used today weren’t in evidence and neither were we afraid of being shot or knifed if a dispute broke out.

There's a very measured article about Harry by Hilary Rose in The Times Magazine. It seems Meghan is the only one who has succeeded in changing him from being a bit of a wastrel

The DoE continued making "dubious" comments into his eighties, long after we all knew they were dubious, and no doubt someone had suggested he might tone them down a bit. I actually find it quite laughable that anyone would think that the DoE's comments ceased when someone told him how unacceptable they were.

However, was the last time he was criticised about 2002, when he went to Tjapukai where they did demonstrate ancient skills?

Harry's were expressed later than that in quite a different category and he also has moved on since those days, thankfully.
