So have switched onto Netflix - wanted to see for myself what the 'fuss' is all about as many diverse opinions on this couple on here and other social platforms ...as well as the media with 'experts' who state this and that etc etc...

She doesn’t smile all the time Grandma70’s, particularly if things aren’t going her way.

Seems it could have been entitled ‘Harry and Meghan-The Greatest Love Story Ever Told’.

leeds22 Thu 08-Dec-22 12:29:38

I'm hoping Hilary Rose will be reviewing it in the Times. Her reviews of Meghan's Spotify podcasts were so caustic and funny. We've got Netflix but won't be watching.

^I thought they ‘met’ on a blind date, arranged by a mutual friend? Seems this was after the instagram meet up.^

Maybe another, “recollections may vary” event?

That's what Lizzie Cundy said when she was interviewed. I saw the interview. She said that she (Lizzie) set them up because Meghan had said she wanted to meet a rich English boyfriend. Lizzie said that Meghan initially followed Ashley Cole online but that he wasn't interested.

The silly thing is that lots of us really wanted it to work. I think lots of us saw her as a breath of fresh air and, had she played it cool, she could have been an asset to the RF and helped them to modernise.

I'm not going to watch but am anticipating at least 2 daughters will so I should get regular flash briefings.

Mamie Thu 08-Dec-22 13:08:31

The thing that came through most strongly to me was the utterly appalling behaviour of the press. There it was in print, no shades of grey, just horrible.

Barmeyoldbat Thu 08-Dec-22 13:19:23

I just have have no time for either of them and shan’t be watching it. They wanted privacy but have done the comp, eye opposite to receive maximum coverage of their lives. America is welcomed to them, just take their titles away and leave them to it.

kittylester Thu 08-Dec-22 13:35:01

Oooh, think of the mileage and vitriol if their titles were taken away. And he would still be Prince Harry and Meghan might be Princess Harry (I think)

Just posted this on the other thread, but it's worth repeating (I hope).

I can't bear the thought of watching all the simpering, fake smiles and fake tears. There will be endless clips and photos in the DM and on TV. Other people will tear it to shreds in the media so there's no need for me to waste time watching it. I know Meghan is an actress so will take centre role. She needs to be the star of the show and so she will be. Harry will take a supporting role.

I've already seen a clip of her with no make up and her hair in a towel, simpering away in front of the cameras! Just remember everything you see has a camera crew there. Most of it has several takes. Nothing is genuine emotion. She is an actress.

Yes, and she has been interviewed demonstrating how she can cry on demand. Great skill if you are in the acting profession..........

mokryna Thu 08-Dec-22 13:38:02

We all have heritage and we can’t change history. What it seems to me is that they are trying to bring down the RF by splitting public option because of what has happened in the past.

Luckygirl3 Thu 08-Dec-22 14:01:59

I am interested in a definition of "fake" and the means by which this is identified.

Kate1949 Thu 08-Dec-22 14:11:32

I agree with kitty. I thought they were a lovely couple and it was great that Harry had met someone.

nadateturbe Thu 08-Dec-22 14:18:08

I've watched twelve minutes and it's boring. 🥱

NanKate Thu 08-Dec-22 14:28:52

Did a lot of fast forwarding, just too tedious and sugary sweet.

I'm not a royalist but this is how I felt - they both mishandled the situation and should have played a long-term cool hand. MM & Harry could have been an asset in connecting with minority and marginalised communities, and the Commonwealth.

Problem is Harry is not very bright and brought up in extreme privilege, and Meghan although bright and educated isn't British and just didn't quite 'get it'.

No doubt the press treated her badly and there was certainly a racist element to much of the coverage, but Diana, Fergie, Camilla, and to a lesser degree Kate all suffered at the hand of the tabloids - doesn't make it OK but puts it in perspective.

I don't have Netflix so won't watch, but then I didn't even watch the Oprah interview - I've seen snippets and found them cringeworthy to be honest.

If I were their PR adviser I'd recommend a period of quiet for all their sakes.

The media is in a frenzy today!

Chestnut Thu 08-Dec-22 14:53:30

I don't think they can get 'quiet' again now they have opened Pandora's Box Riverwalk. Nor can we.

Calendargirl Thu 08-Dec-22 14:54:22

I hope the RF keep a dignified silence about it all.

‘No comment’ would be the best way forward, a ‘sticks and stones’ attitude.

After it’s all been aired, and the book published, what else can they drone on about?

Just get on with their new ‘private’ lives.

Meghan is a definition of 'fake'......wiping her eyes for the camera, endlessly simpering and whinging about how hard done by she is (again to the camera). All this when millions of people are in the midst of war, energy and food shortages. They should be utterly ashamed of themselves, trying to stoke up sympathy for their 'suffering'. It makes me sick to my stomach.

Quokka Thu 08-Dec-22 15:08:00

I’ve never met this couple and all I knew previously was the media take on them. That’s the same media who hounded Princess Diana and Sarah Ferguson - two more royal wives.

Remember the old saying that the media never let the truth get in the way of a good story.

I’m not entitled to an opinion under these circumstances and am confused by those who think they are.

Daddima Thu 08-Dec-22 15:08:52

The thing that came through most strongly to me was the utterly appalling behaviour of the press. There it was in print, no shades of grey, just horrible.

And by featuring the horrible things, I’m afraid the press will now become even nastier. One paper has already highlighted some ‘ recollections may vary’ moments!

I thought ‘H’ looked rather embarrassed when ‘M’ was demonstrating how she curtseyed to the Queen. Perhaps his recollection varied?

notgran Thu 08-Dec-22 15:09:45

Thank you everyone for watching it so I don't have to. grin

icanhandthemback Thu 08-Dec-22 15:13:27

How anyone could have watched this and seen the headlines, the social media posts, etc and not seen that she was targeted by racism just beggars belief. To say that others have suffered with things said by the press so basically she should have sucked it up...well, words fail me.

Kate1949 Thu 08-Dec-22 15:20:56

I don't ever remember reading anything horrible or racist about Meghan. I didn't even know she was mixed race/dual heritage or whatever term is acceptable. I just thought she was a beautiful woman

Bea65 Thu 08-Dec-22 15:22:00

Sparklefizz how is it Lizzie Cundy says she 'set them up' no mention of her in storyline..they met on Insta according to the docu ...Ms Cundy appears very fake when I've seen her interviewed and much to much surgery when she was already an attractive person...just my opinionhmm

That’s how I reacted, too. I was surprised when people ( or perhaps she) started going on about her being ‘black’, as that hadn’t occurred to me. I disliked her gushiness, but put that down to her being American. She seemed slow to catch on that British manners were different.
