Have been binge watching this new series on catch up. I'm finding it a really good series, beautiful clothes and decor as set in Versaille....excuse spelling mistakes please. It is also a very good story line and if its based on truth, things I didn't know. If you like period drama I would highly recommend. šŸ˜ŠšŸ‘

I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a beautifully presented drama. I expect there'll be another series as this one ended quite well.

If it ended quite well there surely must be another series! šŸ˜€

I shouldn't really comment as I haven't watched it yet.

Well there are no surprises to be told- I think we all know that. Surely they will have to get that bit right!

I watched episode 3 this afternoon. The costume are wonderful and the room sets a delight. Whether it’s true to history or not, I really don’t care. It’s the visual equivalent of really good cake.

The clothes are lovely.

I have seen two episodes and it seems just a bit of long drawn-out foreplay to me!!

Call me old fashioned , but I still like to refer to TV programmes

In American English, program is the correct spelling. In Australian and Canadian English, program is the more common spelling. In British English, programme is the preferred spelling, although program is often used in computing contexts.

When I was teaching, we referred to maths programmes, but IT programs.

There is a difference, but I admit to being a fully paid up pedant! wink

At least you're not being supercilious or patronising!
It an enjoyable and beautifully produced drama. A nice change from gritty crime thrillers.

Would you like to be more specific as to who is?

I think Madame Josephine, Princesse de Savoy.

I agree! I adore the costumes and find the hairstyles bizarrely fascinating.

I'm aware that a TV drama such as this will not show the historical facts with 100% accuracy or completeness, but that doesn’t impact on my enjoyment. I do think the 3 TV series ā€œVersaillesā€ were better…..but that may be simply because I saw those first, a very hard act to follow.

Having finished it, I hope there's a second series as I enjoyed it. I don't expect historical dramas to be accurate. I loved the costumes and sets. I watched "Mary Queen of Scots" yesterday afternoon, I've seen it before but I was happy to watch it again. In the film the two queens meet but according to records, they never did. It didn't spoil the film for me.

Fair enough- it is quite normal that different people will perceive such a series differently, depending on their personal knowledge and perception.

I never said it was 'tosh' - but felt the first episode in particular to be more sensationalist and superficial as I expected it would be. For all sorts of reasons, I have studien this period of history in depth, translated a book on her life, and even worked with Nicolas Parsons on a documentary.

Looking forward to 3rd episode, and see.

Fleurpepper I think I'd find it annoying if I knew a lot about that period of history but I don't, however I know a bit more than I did. I sometimes get cross if I've read a book and enjoyed it, then find a film adaption changes the story or gives it a different ending!

How fascinating, was that the one about her Breguet watch?

Sorry, had not seen your post at the time.

So Count Fernsen is now on the scene- will they talk about Breguet and the Marie-Antoinette watch? I have translated a book on the subject, so am particularly interested on this part of the story. Nicola Parson's documentary was great, and as said, we communicated on the matter a few times.

Anyone interested in that story can read the book by John Biggs. Available via Amazon or Kindle
