Roll up, roll up!

The old one is full, so post your Corrie thoughts and observations here.

Doodledog Sat 15-Jul-23 12:45:37

Most of the pairings on Corrie are 'strange', though. They are an ill-assorted bunch at best. From Craigie and Faye to Sarah and Adam, Yasmeen and Stu, Tim and Sally and so on, none of them seem made for one another. Shona and David are the best-matched couple I can think of off the top of my head.

Beechnut Sat 15-Jul-23 13:06:55

I like Shona.

I thought David Platt's comment to Tracey Barlow last night was priceless
" You've seen more action than the SAS Barlow".

Aveline Sat 15-Jul-23 15:52:30

I think Sally and Tim are a great couple. The attraction of opposites?!
Beth's not the sharpest tool in the box either. She's lucky to have lovely Kirk.

Doodledog Sat 15-Jul-23 17:27:22

Kirk is dim but well-intentioned, whereas Beth is slightly brighter but spiteful. They do seem to love one another though.

Kirk often says something that strikes home - he is portrayed as a simple soul, but seems to be rather like 'The Fool On The Hill' . For the rest of the time he has an amazing ability to get everything wrong and make remarks that leave others speechless. His character is well drawn - and he acts it so well.

I hope toyah has a toilet break

BlueBelle Mon 17-Jul-23 20:28:57

Spider is such a terrible actor I find him really hard to believe in

Kandinsky Mon 17-Jul-23 20:30:07

Yes, he’s one of the worst actors I’ve ever seen in a soap & that’s saying something!

BlueBelle Mon 17-Jul-23 20:33:05

What happened there ? Spider shot on the floor then shooting the woman did I link or something

BlueBelle Mon 17-Jul-23 20:33:23

Blink not link

sodapop Mon 17-Jul-23 20:46:34

Then the woman walked to the ambulance. Spider was wearing a bullet proof vest.

It's surprising how he has carried on his undercover career given his abysmal acting ability.

Primrose53 Mon 17-Jul-23 22:20:12

I agree about Spider. He has always been a dreadful actor. Where on earth did they find him? Can’t say I have seen him in anything else.

Looks like poor old Elaine is going to have a mishap in’t Peaks! She is so gullible. Stephen is a poor actor too.

BlueBelle Mon 17-Jul-23 22:38:22

No never seen Spider in anything else (can’t imagine why)🤣🤣

Elaine won’t be coming back from the Peaks methinks

Doodledog Mon 17-Jul-23 23:09:16

I've been out all evening and am watching on catch-up now.

I have a soft spot for Spider grin. How did he become an undercover policeman? I remember when he was sitting in trees in protest at building on the Red Rec. He's always been a bit gormless, but I don't think his acting is too bad. You're right that he doesn't seem to have been in anything else though.

The Toyah kidnap incident was laughable - bad writing and poor acting. Totally unbelievable tosh and not remotely dramatic. The awful Italian cousin is back - cringeworthy stereotyping . I’m quite liking the Elaine-Stephen storyline at the moment , let’s hope for a swift ending!

Doodledog Tue 18-Jul-23 06:09:53

Much as I love Corrie, I think they should go back to 2 or 3 episodes a week, so they don’t have to resort to ridiculous storylines like the kidnapping.

Soaps are better when they are domestic dramas, not low-rent attempts at high-octane action movies or serial killer dramas. I think there should be a shakeup at scriptwriter central, with Northern working class writers brought back (or at least an insistence on Northern working class stories) to take Corrie back to its roots. I want to see gossip and affairs, not murders and shoot-outs.

It’s getting too silly even for me, and I have a high tolerance for drivel as I watch it to switch off at the end of the day, and don’t pay close attention. Maybe moving it back to 7.30 would be better too. Apparently viewing figures are plummeting, and I’m not surprised really.

vegansrock Tue 18-Jul-23 07:25:14

Didn’t it use to be 3x30 minute episodes? Now it’s 3x1 hour episodes. No wonder there are so many ridiculous storylines.

Clawdy Tue 18-Jul-23 08:05:51

Yes, the endless gangster storylines are becoming ridiculous.
And all the "ticking boxes" of social issues and problems. I dread to think what the next one will be. Hope or Joseph saying they're transgender??

Aveline Tue 18-Jul-23 12:40:20

There used to be two half hour episodes on Mons, Weds and Fris. So still same length these days.

Doodledog Tue 18-Jul-23 13:05:38

No, they are hour-long now, Aveline. It's gone from an hour a week to three hours, and whereas I can keep up with that now that there is catch-up and recording facilities, I think it is too much for the scriptwriters to fill with traditional 'domestic' drama, so they are bringing in the gangsters and kidnappers.

Doodledog Tue 18-Jul-23 13:07:10

Aveline

Oh, sorry - I've remembered - there did used to be two episodes, with a 30 minute gap in the middle. I was talking about the olden days when they were half an hour each and only one on a give night.

Charleygirl5 Tue 18-Jul-23 13:34:32

They need continuity of scriptwriters- not a different one each episode or maybe writes a couple and then vanishes.

I do wish Elaine would wake up.

sodapop Tue 18-Jul-23 15:52:47

I think she is about to Charleygirl

Calendargirl Wed 19-Jul-23 07:07:58

Surprised no one commented on Eileen’s weight loss or her new hair do, in the Rovers.

Did Spider actually shoot the woman, if so, how did she end up with just concussion?

It really was too daft.

Just when I thought (hoped) the scripts were improving.
