Just thought it might be an idea to have a thread for sharing thoughts and comments this Wimbledon fortnight for those who follow.

Thinking too of Lucca, tennis' no.1 fan.

Well ,Djokovic has just been called out on "hindrance" when he
let out a yell. Seems like double standards when some of the ladies spend nearly all their time screeching.

merlotgran Fri 14-Jul-23 14:47:03

And now a time violation. The umpire seems to be on a mission.

Many players let out a noise when they serve or hit the ball.

Djokovich yelled when Sinner was about to take a shot, he could have thought it was a line judge shouting 'out'.
He's playing dirty tricks.

I don't want to sound arrogant, but of course I would consider myself favourite," said second seed Djokovic (BBC Sport website).

Er, not in this house you're not, sunshine😡

Djokovic has won umpteen grand slams so he’s got every right to think he’s in with a good chance. He hasn’t won all those titles by bad play either. I think some people don’t like him because he makes winning look effortless.

People may dislike his cockiness - his determination to win, his aggressiveness, he's an awesome player even with his arrogance.

That I should play so well.

😁

I think he's better than he was. The short time at the charm school may have helped but he needs to complete the course.

Remember how ungracious Andy Murray used to be?

merlotgran Fri 14-Jul-23 16:52:46

Looking forward to Alkaraz v Medvedev.

That’s why I can’t stand him. I remember him doing things like that when he played Andy years ago and haven’t liked him since. His anti vaccine stance compounded it.

Luckygirl3 Fri 14-Jul-23 17:40:22

I have no time for him. He is obviously a brilliant player but I find him quite unpleasant. The whole covid vaccination stance will have resulted in loss of life as some who hold him up as an icon of fitness will have followed his lead.

I recognise that he did not set out to publicise his stance, but it came to light when he was not allowed into other countries. But he had plenty of chances to say he had his own personal reasons not to be vaccinated, but recognised that it was advisable. He did not do that.

His shout today was out of order and the umpire rightly pulled him up over it.

maddyone Fri 14-Jul-23 18:35:52

I don’t like Djokovic either. I agree with Luckgirl over the saga with him and the vaccinations. Despicable behaviour in my opinion.
I’m hoping Alcaraz wins his match. I don’t want a Russian in the final. The Russians shouldn’t be here in my opinion.

maddyone Fri 14-Jul-23 18:50:11

He’s done it! Brilliant match point. Lovely young man.

merlotgran Fri 14-Jul-23 18:50:56

It should be a great final.

Every time Alcaraz hit the ball he shouted something that sounded like OUT.
Very off putting.

Which commentator said this is the final we were all hoping for?
Not all of us. The drivel continues.

It would be preferable to have just one commentator for each match, talking about the match, the shots, the points, perhaps with some facts during breaks.

Instead we have two or three commenting on each match and filling any silences with rubbish.

And, John McEnroe, Djokovic is not pronounced Jokervich. That is deliberately rude.

Sparklefizz Fri 14-Jul-23 19:21:58

Yes, Djokovic is playing dirty tricks. What's with all the gazillion bounces before a serve? I can't stand him, and his anti-vax stance made me dislike him even more.

But what a final it will be. I would dearly love Alcaraz to win. His tennis is fantastic.

We can't blame all Russians for the acts of Putin.

Medvedev doesn't live in Russia any more and said he hopes there will be peace.

Luckygirl3 Fri 14-Jul-23 22:44:44

I would have had no problem with a Russian in the final. Medvedev is no more responsible for Putin's atrocities than I am for Johnson's dishonesty.

vegansrock Sat 15-Jul-23 04:02:00

I like Djokovic, he doesn’t make any more grunts or shouts than anyone else, and if the umpire pulled him up on anything he accepted it and moved on without any histrionics. No one can deny he’s a great player. I like Alcatraz too and he makes even more groans and shouts. I’m looking forward to the final and don’t mind who wins.

vegansrock Sat 15-Jul-23 06:51:13

oops Alcaraz ( spell checker must be checked!) ! Let’s just hope it’s a great match!

NanKate Sat 15-Jul-23 07:38:42

ND is not for me. I wanted Sinner to get through to the Final but he is not as physically strong as the others, but a great player.

I miss Rafa Nadal my all time favourite, but he is more for the clay courts than grass.

JenniferEccles Sat 15-Jul-23 13:10:14

Ladies finals day! Hopefully the roof will be off. We are about 18 miles from Wimbledon and it’s looking pretty good so far. Can’t rule out the odd shower though so they may decide to play safe.

I will be cheering on the unseeded Czech girl, the underdog!

nadateturbe Sat 15-Jul-23 15:25:26

I wish the female commentator would keep quiet!
