Just thought it might be an idea to have a thread for sharing thoughts and comments this Wimbledon fortnight for those who follow.

Thinking too of Lucca, tennis' no.1 fan.

Poor Ons. I was grabbing the Kleenex 🥲

Me too.

Vondrousova played an excellent game - she is very tricky to play!

Kleenex out when Ons lost and I cried along with her. It was nice to see Kate being quietly supportive in the background.

ND is not for me. I wanted Sinner to get through to the Final but he is not as physically strong as the others, but a great player.

I miss Rafa Nadal my all time favourite, but he is more for the clay courts than grass.

With you all the way NanKate. It’s just not the same without Rafa. But in his absence I’m supporting Alcaraz even though I agree that his shouts do resemble out calls. Feel heartbroken for Ons Jabeur. 😢

Djokovic has won umpteen grand slams so he’s got every right to think he’s in with a good chance. He hasn’t won all those titles by bad play either. I think some people don’t like him because he makes winning look effortless.

Think most people dislike like him because of his arrogance, mocking the crowd because the favourite, Sinner , lost. Just because he's a world player, doesn't mean he's well liked.

I think the better player won today. Well deserved. She played a skilful game in that she cleverly mixed up her shots, and it made it more interesting for the spectators.
Now tomorrow. Like most on here I can’t stand the arrogant Djokovic and would LOVE to see him beaten tomorrow.
I was going to say ‘thrashed’ but I think if he does lose, it will be close.
Looking forward to it.

First we had McEnroe pronouncing Djokovic as Jokervich. Now we have Tracey Austin and Billie Jean talking about Ons' country called "Toneesha" instead of Tunisia. Grrr. Irritating.

I will miss some of the match tomorrow as I setting off on a singing course at 3.30 ... unless it is all over by then! I would love to see Djokovic lose - bit unkind - sorry!

Double ditto

I watched the Men's Doubles - brilliant, well done Skupski and Koolhof!

And most of the Men's Wheelchair doubles, just brilliant too, well done to the British pair Hewitt and Reid (I must admit I shed a tear when they were interviewed afterwards).

I was making a Ferraro Rocher cake this afternoon with my ten year old grandson who had requested we make one, and so we were popping in and out of the living room to see how Ons was getting on, because I really wanted to watch the match in full, but obviously didn’t manage it. My grandson likes playing tennis too and so he was interested as well. I was so disappointed when Ons lost and her disappointment was so obvious, but she was gracious in defeat despite her tears. Her husband was crying too. The Czech girl played well and it was a fantastic achievement for her as she was unseeded. Well done to her.
I’m not making another Ferraro Rocher cake despite grandchild pleas. The thing cost £12.00 in ingredients! We’re eating it with strawberries tomorrow at the family barbecue and so it’ll be another afternoon of popping in and out to watch the men’s final.

😲 but you may only need tiny portions as it sounds as if it could be very rich!

Well, today’s the day.
Everyone ready? 🎾

Jaxjacky Sun 16-Jul-23 13:24:01

I will be watching behind a metaphoric cushion as I used to watch Dr Who, when small, behind a real one. Hoping the Dalek doesn’t win 🙂

FannyCornforth Sun 16-Jul-23 13:25:54

Are you looking forward to the Women’s World Cup Jacky?
I can’t wait 😃

FannyCornforth Sun 16-Jul-23 13:27:33

I might do a sweepstake (especially since I’m banned from doing one for you-know-what 😉)

JenniferEccles Sun 16-Jul-23 13:30:53

I can’t ever remember a top tennis player who has ever been as universally disliked as Djokovic. So much of course he has brought on himself.
I hope Alcaraz manages to overcome his inevitable nerves and gets off to a good start.

I’m sure the Centre Court crowd will be overwhelmingly cheering him on.

😬😬😬😬

Sparklefizz Sun 16-Jul-23 13:35:13

Come on Carlos!!! You can do it !!!!

nanaK54 Sun 16-Jul-23 13:35:42

I'm ready!
Lunch is finished and I have assumed the position - sofa reclined - knitting at the ready!
Please no 'phone calls - tempted to switch it to 'do not disturb' but can't do that as we have responsibility for 92 year old MIL
