Is anyone still listening or have you given up?

eGJ Tue 25-Jun-24 13:01:25

He holds Alice wholly responsible for Fallon’s losing the baby she never wanted, but he was desperate for. He never used to be so uncaring. Harry is back in next week’s cast which can’t be good news!

NotSpaghetti Tue 25-Jun-24 16:56:15

I wonder if they will meet at an AA meeting?

Daddima Tue 25-Jun-24 16:58:38

I’m presuming they are trying to raise awareness of things like the certificate and the religious service available to those who have suffered miscarriage, but think they could have chosen a different scenario, as I found Harrison’s reaction and talk of praying for ‘unborn babies’ a wee bit OTT, when they didn’t even know Fallon was pregnant!
Also, I wondered at the time if the doctor would really have broken the news to both of them, rather than to Fallon alone.

Oh no, not Harry back!

eGJ Sat 29-Jun-24 08:52:15

After George’s words in his last goodbye to Bartleby perhaps we either need Bartleby on the witness stand or expect to see George unwind and confess!

NotSpaghetti Sat 29-Jun-24 08:54:16

I think it's trying to leave open the idea that he might confess. He's not sure he will be around to look after the pony.

Personally I think he won't do that.

On listening to today's omnibus, I am pleased that they have at last written Roy out. The actor died back in December.

eGJ Sun 30-Jun-24 19:06:37

And he is happily back with Lexi😀

NotSpaghetti Sun 30-Jun-24 19:09:23

Yes. A fitting "end" for Roy... but maybe he will pop back in due course with a new voice...

Wyllow3 Mon 01-Jul-24 10:35:08

The case of the cider bottle in the car which might have George's prints on it...but doubt its been kept.

NotSpaghetti Mon 01-Jul-24 12:22:00

And the key/steering wheel and door handle?

Visgir1 Mon 01-Jul-24 12:26:23

Yes agree, I'm have been waiting for this to be discovered.

merlotgran Mon 01-Jul-24 12:32:18

If Alice was desperate to get out of a moving car because she was going to be sick, how come she didn’t throw up in the car which would have been on the passenger’s side?

NotSpaghetti Mon 01-Jul-24 16:10:40

Maybe there will be her fingerprints on the passenger side.

eGJ Sat 06-Jul-24 11:12:03

Glad to hear Susan’s tough talking has produced results!

madeleine45 Sat 06-Jul-24 11:28:39

I have listened on and off to the Archers for most of my life. It used to be on just as I was going to bed as a small child, so has connotations of home etc. Heard it on world service when I lived abroad. It can be rather like an adult version of Listen with mother - are you sitting comfortably? Then we'll begin! when I have had a hard day or am in a lot of pain, it is something I can just listen to and try to relax a bit. They are dragging things out a bit with George, but at the same time, it is also showing how the fact that it is not being dealt with is causing him more long term worry and pain - which he deserves. Horrible selfish self centred arrogant boy. Has the cockiness and deviousness of the Grundy s but not the better side that other grundys can show at times.

I do dislike the Soosan character but her sheer believability is down to Charlotte Martin's acting skill. On occasion, she turns in a really excellent performance - as she did with Thursday's lambasting of Alice. I found it moving, believable and a fine portrayal of a woman at the end of her tether.

merlotgran Mon 08-Jul-24 08:55:54

I agree. Susan has hidden depths.

eGJ Tue 09-Jul-24 07:50:45

Is George’s crime uncovered this week? Next week’s Radio Times has just arrived and there are NO Grundy in the cast!

mae13 Sun 14-Jul-24 19:28:58

I just find TA pretty heavy going these days. There's an avalanche of plot lines, cross-plots, sub plots going on at the moment apparently trying to cover every aspect of political correctness and wokery, not to mention referencing whatever is the current hot topic in the news.
Throw in what sounds like a burgeoning cast of God knows how many - new characters popping up at a relentless rate - and no wonder I feel as if I need two brains to keep up!
Oh for the days of Sid Perks at The Bull, Nelson Gabriel manning his antique shop and wily Joe Grundy expending his brain cells dreaming up yet another dodgy scam. And Peggy Woolley keeping everyone in line.
It was lovely and simple back then.......

eGJ Sat 27-Jul-24 13:47:58

Do you think Pat helped George get himself ready for his possible court appearance? The Alistair - Denise relationship is getting tiresome mae13 makes me wish for the ‘old days’ and characters who we believed in. I can’t remember the Grace Archer death episode, but it is being given a lot of coverage with the death of Ysanne Churchman. Any GNer remember hearing it first time round?

Delila Sun 28-Jul-24 19:35:19

Could Denise and Alistair’s relationship possibly be any less interesting? It seems to be used as a filler to maintain the tension of the George/Alice situation, and delay it from reaching a denouement, which I suspect is what most listeners are interested in.
Knowing the Archers, I won’t be surprised if the closest we get to hearing the revelation we’ve been hoping for will be George saying “I’ve got something to tell you Mum….” Cue closing theme music.

gulligranny Mon 29-Jul-24 22:01:05

eGJ, I do remember the episode where Grace Archer (nee Fairbrother) was killed - the BBC needed some shock/horror to spoil the launch of ITV the same evening, 22nd September 1955. I was 3 weeks shy of my 10th birthday, and used to listen to The Archers with my mum, dad and grandmother.

NotSpaghetti Tue 30-Jul-24 04:58:05

No, Delila - it's the most boring affair ever!

Badbatch Wed 31-Jul-24 19:01:42

Its quite big on mumsnet.
