Only another month to go so I thought we'd better get the new thread up and running smile

I don't know many of this year's contestants so far but I guess we'll get to know them as the show continues. I see there are already comments that some of them have previous dance training.

I've never been able to understand why people come onto the thread for Strictly fans only to complain and say that they never watch it. What's the point?

Mollygo Sun 01-Oct-23 09:45:08

If you can’t swivel, the Charleston isn’t the dance for you.

Layton is undoubtedly a very talented dancer; he was better last night because he was dancing in a mode unfamiliar to him and had mastered the steps; last week he was intent only on showing off. The dance did stray into a show dance.

But as I watch I find I concentrate far more on Nikita, because he isn't showing off, he is focusing on his partner.

Sparklefizz Sun 01-Oct-23 11:14:15

Nikita's choreography last night was first class although I agree with eazybee that it did stray into a show dance at times.

I've just rewatched it on YouTube as the quickstep is one of my favourite dances, plus the music was terrific too.

Amanda was very good, but came across, to me at least, as a bit smug.

Yes, she did very well, but I couldn’t take to her somehow, so didn’t vote for her.

I wish Dave Arch and his talented band and singers got more of a mention during the programme. They play any style of music live and faultlessly.

I did enjoy Ellie’s jive. She has such natural rhythm and ability. Sometimes the jive can become uncouth, but she was beautiful to watch and she had so much fun.
Angela Rippon really did excel this evening. Such elegance, poise and flow. Loved it. I think traditional ballroom classic dances will suit her best.
Perfect song too!

But I didn’t say I never watched it did I * sparklefizz* I said every year I try it and am disappointed each time

lemsip Sun 01-Oct-23 13:17:34

angela rippon danced well but oh, the wig was horrible. not her choice of course

amanda and giovannie were excellent.
love bobbie and dianne.

It looked like she had a starched head!

Blinko Sun 01-Oct-23 15:45:08

Angela Rippon is clearly suited to ballroom. I do wonder though, how she will fare with the Latin dances, or the more energetic Jive and Cha Cha Cha. I think Kai will have his work cut out to choreograph those for her abilities and energy levels.

Calendargirl Sun 01-Oct-23 17:19:08

Angela R seemed quite breathless when chatting to Claudia after her dance.

Not surprising, but as Blinko says, wonder how she will be after a jive.

Sparklefizz Sun 01-Oct-23 17:46:15

Angela R is being given slower dances at the moment but the less able/less fit contestants will be weeded out once they are given faster dances.

ginny Sun 01-Oct-23 19:32:12

I’m not sure how one of the judges could say that Angela R/s frame was the best of the evening. Her head always seems to be leading her body.

Joseann Sun 01-Oct-23 19:39:03

Dreadful dreary singer. Singing through her nose.
Sorry!

Pittcity Sun 01-Oct-23 19:48:14

I thought I'd gone deaf as I couldn't hear the song....I agree it was awful Joseann.

Calendargirl Sun 01-Oct-23 19:59:42

Foregone conclusion.

Poor Les looked like an old grandad, bet he’s relieved to be voted out.

rafichagran Sun 01-Oct-23 20:04:52

Right decision, I liked him but he was struggling.

Sparklefizz Sun 01-Oct-23 20:09:32

Poor Les. He doesn't seem fit and well, and seems much older than his actual age (soon to be 70). I'm relieved he has gone because I found him quite nerve wracking to watch in case he couldn't manage it.

I agree about the singing.

Callistemon21 Sun 01-Oct-23 20:13:24

I wish the results show wasn't all so long winded! It never used to be this drawn out, did it?

Get on with it!

Grannynannywanny Sun 01-Oct-23 20:13:50

Poor Les but any other outcome tonight would have been wrong. All the clips of him in training he looked like he was working hard and Nancy was pushing him to learn the dance. But he seemed to come out then and just do his own thing for most of it.

Millie22 Sun 01-Oct-23 20:14:22

Is he really not even 70 yet. I was trying to think how old he was and guessed about 74.

Callistemon21 Sun 01-Oct-23 20:15:43

I like Les but I do feel sorry for Nancy.

Yes Sparklefizz I thought the same. He came over as struggling to do his best and a kind man.
Really looking forward to next week. I love the movie week.
