Any GNs going to the pub at 11a.m Sunday .? . my DD and friends having bottomless brunch to support the Lionesses (🤩) if it’s raining might watch it as do feel it’s a big accomplishment for women in football

Jaxjacky Fri 18-Aug-23 07:10:30

Our local is opening at 10:45, but doesn’t do food. My days of drinking from 11 are long gone so I’ll watch it at home with my weetabix!

grannyqueenie Fri 18-Aug-23 10:16:56

Jaxjacky, that just made me splurt my coffee! 😂😂

Kate1949 Fri 18-Aug-23 10:19:43

I won't be watching. My husband will.

henetha Fri 18-Aug-23 10:29:18

I'm not into football at all, but I think it's great how well the lionesses have done. Good luck to them on Sunday. I'll watch bits of it at home.

Letitbleed Fri 18-Aug-23 10:41:44

I would like to watch this, but i literally cannot listen to the female commentator, her screeching hurts my ears.
So, will try to either find a service with crowd noise only, or at a push volume down.

We have a women’s football game KO 2pm so will watch in the clubhouse and hope it doesn’t go to extra time and penalties as the players will need to be out on the pitch and warming up by 1:30. Some women teams won’t be able to watch at all, as they may have 2hourbtravel to an away game which can’t kick off later than 4pm by the rules.

Some women players are upset and think the FA should have postponed all women’s games on Sunday so that they can all watch what is a first for England’s women’s football team.

dogsmother Fri 18-Aug-23 11:24:55

I am so excited and agree all women’s matches of the fa should be rescheduled for this……absolutely. This is after all what they are all aspiring too surely.

DH wants to go to the pub, but I'd be happier to stay in my PJs and watch at home with a cuppa.

And my feet up, admiring their energy.

I was young once, you know!

Why is it necessary to have to open the pubs for people to watch this historic game?

dogsmother Fri 18-Aug-23 12:59:48

I didn’t say say pub or not! So as ever I will be at home with whoever is around, sometimes family eat with us on Sunday so maybe they are here too.

Grannybags Fri 18-Aug-23 13:01:10

Not just an accomplishment for woman in football - no English team has got to the final since 1966!

Kim19 Fri 18-Aug-23 13:03:31

I'll be about and watching every minute. Alarm already set!

dragonfly46 Fri 18-Aug-23 13:05:09

Because it brings in the money eazybee!

Of course it’s not necessary, but presumably people enjoy the atmosphere.
I don’t think I’ll be watching - if there’s a side I really want to win*, I get too wound up!
(*not that I often care one way or the other.)

If a T shirt I once saw on a New Zealander is anything to go by, at least the Kiwis might be supporting us.

It read, ‘I SUPPORT NEW ZEALAND - AND WHOEVER IS PLAYING AUSTRALIA’. 😂

Bea65 Fri 18-Aug-23 17:05:05

easybee the pubs are open normal hours- some of them have lovely open beer gardens that families frequent…

The pubs open at 11am, nothing different.

Oh dear, we are gong out to lunch tomorroww to celebrate my 80th. A local, nice, but given the occasion, pricy pub.

Is everything going to be spoiled by howling crowds watching/listening to the match on telephones, ipads and the liek (it is not a tv in the bar type pub).

For me sport is something you do, not something you watch and my interest in tomorrows event is not just nil, it is negative.

I really hope that my special occasion is not going to be ruined.

Louella12 Sat 19-Aug-23 14:49:10

Oh gosh, MOnica! I do hope your meal won't be disturbed. Maybe call the pub to see if they're going full on with the reporting.

Happy birthday to you and fingers crossed all goes well and you have a lovely time

dogsmother Sat 19-Aug-23 14:55:18

Monica 💐 Happy Birthday
A birthday to celebrate 🎉
We are now going to the pub but it’s not one where food is an option just lots of drinking and celebrating the football I believe.
I hear what you say about taking part but some people are just not up to it. I have always been an arm chair supporter of many sports. Only partaken of one.

M0nica Sat 19-Aug-23 16:29:18

dogsmother, as always there are exceptionssmile

Redrobin51 Sat 19-Aug-23 18:51:17

I've watched all their matches but from the comfort of my own home. The final will be watched with a pounding heart and I will probably be a nervous wreck by the end. They have done us proud whatever the outcome.

foxie48 Sat 19-Aug-23 19:04:06

I'm going to watch although not really a football fan but I'd love them to win as it would make so many people happy. I think most sports played at the top level can be entertaining and I remember watching the 1966 World final with my mother. My father was there as he had connections with a first div club and had been given a ticket but was also recovering from a recent heart attack tbh we doubted he'd live through the match!

MiniMoon Sat 19-Aug-23 21:58:31

I'll be watching. Salmon for lunch so that will be quick to prepare during half time.
