Any GNs going to the pub at 11a.m Sunday .? . my DD and friends having bottomless brunch to support the Lionesses (🤩) if it’s raining might watch it as do feel it’s a big accomplishment for women in football

We might actually go to the pub for the second half, cappuccino for me please!

Watched the musical tribute by the Guards band in Wellington barracks this morning. Very moving. Lovely......

I shall watch it on TV at home. I'm thrilled at how many girls are being inspired by the Lionesses.

I would so like England to win but I don’t think I can watch until near the end, depending on the score. I make myself so nervous!

I feel rather insulted that not one member of our royal family or the PM are going to be there! As already mentioned, it’s the first time since 1966. It really is important for women of the world and our players. If it was the men playing, I’m sure they would make the effort!

Shelflife Sun 20-Aug-23 09:36:24

I am not and never have been remotely interested in football. However ........... On this occasion I will watch bits of the match ! I think our girls have done a great job for football in general and for girls and women. Of course I wish them well ,🤞 for success. Whatever the outcome the Lionesses should be immensely proud of their achievement.

Getting quite excited now. Bit of housework to do, then settling down in front of TV. Bottle of fizz ready to go in fridge for tonight if they win.....

I shall be watching!

Patsy70 Sun 20-Aug-23 10:09:59

I’ll be watching at home with OH, and cheering our girls on. (My next door neighbour is an ex Lioness! )

ginny Sun 20-Aug-23 10:11:37

I won’t be watching. No inter In football at all.
I do however wish them luck and hope they win.

Grandma70s Sun 20-Aug-23 10:18:45

No interest at all. In fact I find it a bit nightmarish, as they remind me of the ‘gamesey’ girls at school, whom I loathed. I don’t care who wins.

BigBertha1 Sun 20-Aug-23 10:23:35

I expect I shall watch the last half hour as DH will watch that. He never watches a whole football match unless its Spurs but now Harry has gone who knows what will happen.

nanaK54 Sun 20-Aug-23 10:28:58

I will be glued to coverage (from my sofa) as will my DH.
What an inspiration these young women are to girls with an interest in football.
C'mon Lionesses!

So why come on the thread?

For balance, to let people know there is another point of view, just as strongly held.

BBC have opted to speak over the closing ceremony. How crass, bad mannered and insensitive.

No-one said you can't have another viewpoint, but why gatecrash this one?

Start another thread, then.

Seems odd having a closing ceremony before the final has been played?

Oh, how odd!!

It’s not a done deal. DH tipped Spain to win the tournament right at the start and he knows his football.

GrannySomerset Sun 20-Aug-23 10:57:50

I always want England to win, whatever the sport or occasion, so I will watch the game whilst pretending to do something more useful. We could do with the boost, though I expect Spain feels the same.

I could knit but I might drop a stitch or two 😃

😬😬😬😬 I get so nervous. I’ll sit in the garden I think until they are winning 4 nil then feel safe to watch.

Kim19 Sun 20-Aug-23 11:10:06

Yes, seems strange to me too but the commentator did use that terminology when she referred us to the iplayer to see it.

rafichagran Sun 20-Aug-23 11:13:25

I am watching, England shirt on, partner who has come back from a long run is making me a toasted sandwich and a cup of tea. I am enjoying the experience.
I am also looking forward to reading positive supporting posts on here.

JaneJudge Sun 20-Aug-23 11:15:37

Facebook is littered with sexist comments about washing up and tea towels and it is actually making me feel quite murderous
