Any GNs going to the pub at 11a.m Sunday .? . my DD and friends having bottomless brunch to support the Lionesses (🤩) if it’s raining might watch it as do feel it’s a big accomplishment for women in football

😬😬😬😬 I get so nervous. I’ll sit in the garden I think until they are winning 4 nil then feel safe to watch.

I’m in the process of vacating my daughters house after a week long house sit, so I can potter about and half watch the football out of the corner of my eye. Oh blimey: Spain have just scored….sad

I missed kick off. Why is Lauren James on the bench?

merlotgran Sun 20-Aug-23 12:07:46

Scrap that! She’s on now.

Bea65 Sun 20-Aug-23 12:15:09

Spain is playing really well...Come on Lionesses ...sending good vibes for the second half shamrock

Louella12 Sun 20-Aug-23 12:26:44

I'm cheering for Spain. Spanish OH and children

Also Spain are superior. And England have been a little unfair on play

Callistemon21 Sun 20-Aug-23 12:27:43

Well done Mary!

Well done Mary!

Mary, Queen of Stops!

I love it 😂

MayBee70 Sun 20-Aug-23 12:35:12

I’ve had to turn it off. If England score can someone post it on here and I’ll turn it back on again. I’m such a coward!

merlotgran Sun 20-Aug-23 13:03:23

😩😩

😢😢😢😢

I think the writing was in the wall when the team we beat in the semis lost so badly the other day. And we totally underestimated the Spanish team.

rafichagran Sun 20-Aug-23 13:11:13

I am proud of the English team, but the better team won.

CatsCatsCats Sun 20-Aug-23 13:16:54

Oh, what a shame. Bubbly will have to be saved for another day. Spain did play well, though, especially in the first half.

Callistemon21 Sun 20-Aug-23 13:25:16

Well done, Mary Earps!
Congratulations 🥇

Facebook is littered with sexist comments about washing up and tea towels and it is actually making me feel quite murderous

Take the comments as ironic

Granmarderby10 Sun 20-Aug-23 13:37:51

Just what is that trophy?

GrannySomerset Sun 20-Aug-23 13:40:22

As I watched from behind the sofa I remembered a football mad boyfriend telling me that the better team always seemed to have more players on the pitch, and it often looked like that today. Never mind, England, there is always next time.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 20-Aug-23 14:09:52

👈 where is the FA President?

M0nica Sun 20-Aug-23 14:18:32

Cynically amused that the loss of a football match, no matter how important, has driven every mention of the Lucy Letby trial and everything associated with it entirely from the BBC, and presumably other news outlets.

I am very clear which has the priority in my world - we lunched at a restaurant that was television free.

No interest at all. In fact I find it a bit nightmarish, as they remind me of the ‘gamesey’ girls at school, whom I loathed. I don’t care who wins.

So why come on the thread?

For balance, to let people know there is another point of view, just as strongly held.

Am with you on that point of view Grandma70 and on that subject am fed up with seeing pics of snarling roaring women with blond ponytails plastered over every newspaper and mag.
Football and footballers of any sex have no allure to me.

I assume anyone lunching with you thinks the same😀.

I don’t think coverage of the Lucy Letby trial has been in any way diminished by the football. There has been blanket coverage of it for two days now and no doubt still more to come.

It is possible to indulge in some light relief without distracting from the reality of a harrowing event.

I don’t really have priorities where the ups and downs of news reporting are concerned. Just take it all as it comes.
