Jemima Rooper was in this www.itv.com/watch/lost-in-austen/1a6440

She was great in Lost In Austen, her line "Whew, smoulder alert!" when she saw the handsome guy was so funny. My friend still says it sometimes!

merlotgran Tue 12-Sept-23 16:29:18

My goodness they’re a rum lot!!

eddiecat78 Tue 12-Sept-23 17:07:37

merlotgran that's exactly what I said! I did feel it was starting to get a bit silly by the end of the episode but I'll keep watching

Sparklefizz Tue 12-Sept-23 18:03:28

Yes, possibly getting a bit silly, I agree.... but there's nothing else so I'll keep watching.

I am enjoying it but I find Jemima Rooper’s enhanced lips very distracting.

They’re all heavy drinkers aren’t they?

Doodledog Wed 13-Sept-23 09:51:41

I find Jemima Rooper difficult to watch, too.

I fear it is going to go the way of recent Ch5 dramas (eg the ones starring Jo Joyner and the one with Danny Dyer) they have a great cast, a good premise and interesting first episodes, but somehow go off the boil and become daft. I have no idea why dramas on one (any) particular channel should do that - why does it matter who a writer is working for? Unless the Ch5 commissioning editor is a bit off-kilter it makes little sense.

I prefer to binge watch these days. My memory is appalling and I find it hard to remember what happened yesterday so a week is just too much.

So I'm not bothering with it.

Doodledog Wed 13-Sept-23 10:13:00

I agree with that, too. I don't know why they don't put it on My5 so that we can watch it all at once. I struggle to commit to watching the same time every week (and yes, I forget the details between episodes). I think I'll give up on this one and put it on the list of things to watch when it's finished and I can binge it.

Auntieflo Wed 13-Sept-23 11:31:49

Watched the first episode on Catch up, then have recorded the rest of the series.
I am in two minds about it.
They seem to be always drinking, always with a glass of wine in their hands.
Also, do any of them work, except the chef chap?
Will probably watch to see how it pans out.

Smileless2012 Wed 13-Sept-23 11:36:10

I'm staying with it to see how it ends but the plot is OTT.

The sister find the will but telling no one. The brother going to the father of his nephew whose been stopped from seeing his own son, for a 20K loan, thinking he'd have the money in a matter of weeks if he'd been a beneficiary.

Probate can take months when the surviving parent dies, even when there is a will so rather far fetched.

Yess! I looked at Google Images of Jemima from years ago in case I was imagining it (I wasn't!) Her lips were much better back in the day.

Yes, they're all drinking like mad out of huge wine glasses.

Greenfinch Wed 13-Sept-23 11:41:18

I enjoyed the first episode but found it rather tedious this week. I can’t really empathise with any of the characters and so I don’t care what happens and I agree with the poster up thread who finds the swollen lips off putting.

V3ra Wed 13-Sept-23 12:03:10

I spent most of her scenes this week wondering if it were her lips, or her teeth. Yes, very distracting.

lemsip Wed 13-Sept-23 12:06:43

hated Gaynor Faye's character in the short dress drinking and snogging face off someone...... didn't suit the actress.

Auntieflo Wed 13-Sept-23 13:28:22

Agree Lemsip, she made herself look so cheap.

and desperate..

I prefer watching the whole lot on i-player or on demand so I get pretty impatient having to wait a week for the next episode as in the olden days.

lemsip Mon 18-Sept-23 20:45:14

anyone going to watch again 9pm

merlotgran Mon 18-Sept-23 20:46:10

Yes!

Greenfinch Mon 18-Sept-23 20:56:42

Me too.

Doodledog Mon 18-Sept-23 20:58:25

I'm in, but I'm struggling to remember what happened last week. I'm hoping there will be a decent recap and it will all come back to me.

lemsip Mon 25-Sept-23 20:53:20

last one tonight..

crazyH Mon 25-Sept-23 21:09:09

Is it just my TV or is there a voice-over describing everything that’s happening? It’s quite annoying…
