Watching this drama and veering between disgust and anger at party antics and sadness at the situations of ordinary citizens obeying the rules.

Doodledog Tue 03-Oct-23 22:10:50

Yes, the total disrespect for the population is appalling.

Biscuitmuncher Tue 03-Oct-23 22:14:21

They weren't very worried were they

Catterygirl Tue 03-Oct-23 22:16:24

Just stopped watching. Husband fascinated.

merlotgran Tue 03-Oct-23 22:17:36

I’m about to watch it on +1

Kate54 Tue 03-Oct-23 22:34:46

I am angry and upset all over again. Apart from the sheer power of this programme to remind us of just how arrogant and entitled these people were/are, the fact that morons like this were/are ever let near Downing Street is terrifying.

GrandmaKT Tue 03-Oct-23 22:57:56

Were the clips of members of the public real or acted? It made me a bit uneasy somehow seeing them alongside the dramatized sections - as if they were being used for our entertainment.

silverlining48 Tue 03-Oct-23 23:06:39

I am sure I read they were real people.
Comparing these to those in Downing Street whose contempt for the rest of us disgusts me,
I hope they are ashamed of themselves but doubt it somehow,
Congratulations to the journalists who made this public.

Shinamae Tue 03-Oct-23 23:09:43

I won’t watch it, because I’ve got to keep an eye on my blood pressure!

Doodledog Tue 03-Oct-23 23:49:12

The cult of Boris came through loud and clear, didn’t it?

Dickens Wed 04-Oct-23 00:38:14

What channel is it on?

Doodledog
I think we can safely say he was a cult-like figure. And although he's mostly out of the news now, any mention of his name will bring out his admirers who insist that he was the victim of a witch-hunt because "lots of people broke the rules and had parties" <<<sigh>>>

I couldn’t watch it I m so angry about it and I don’t need to make myself more angry about something I can’t change
Shinamae snap

I don't think I realised how many parties there had been. Thought it was Boris birthday and Christmas drinks, not ongoing 14 or 15. Feeling that we were wrongly led during the pandemic and the ongoing feeling of a government with its own rules for them and not for the public.

Grannynannywanny Wed 04-Oct-23 07:03:39

I haven’t watched it yet and not sure if I will. Like many folk across the country I stood in all weathers for more months than I care to remember for care home window visits. It was horrendous to go from daily visits to a loved one to being allowed just a weekly window visit It was utterly heartbreaking to stand looking at someone on the other side of the window desperate for a hug and watch them crying. We stuck by the rules to protect our loved ones although our hearts were broken.

To learn later that while we were doing that the rule makers were breaking their own rules and partying? I can’t put into words how that makes me feel without being banned from Gransnet 😡

merlotgran Wed 04-Oct-23 09:33:11

I was expecting to be angry but it all made me feel really sad. DH died during the 2nd/3rd Lockdown and memories of not being allowed to visit him in hospital and handing over bags of clean clothes and little treats outside the reception area brought back feelings of utter helplessness.

Getting angry would have been a waste of energy and not worth expending on a bunch of tossers.

Grantanow Wed 04-Oct-23 09:59:32

Showed why Johnson should never be allowed near politics again and that goes for his tainted Party which continued to support him until the last moment.

Thanks!

Kate54 Wed 04-Oct-23 10:26:00

And there are some in the party who would love him back….

Cadenza123 Wed 04-Oct-23 11:08:32

These people at the heart of government. How did we come to this?

Jane43 Wed 04-Oct-23 13:58:33

I haven’t watched it yet but I’m sure it will get me as angry as I was when I watched This England on Sky, the story of the Brexit campaign; Kenneth Branagh portrayed Johnson and Simon Paisley Day portrayed Cummings.

Casdon Wed 04-Oct-23 14:01:09

I’m not sure yet that Cummings is going to come out of this as the bad guy after all - or at least, he may be nowhere near the baddest of the bad guys.

Happygirl79 Wed 04-Oct-23 14:27:42

I started to watch it but I was so appalled by the behaviour from the people who had actually made the lock down rules that I had to switch off. It was very triggering for me and far too painful to sit through. They should be hanging their heads in shame but of course it will all be forgotten by them now and they will have moved on.

These people at the heart of government. How did we come to this?

How did we come to this?

It might sound like a 'rant' - but it isn't - it is simply what I believe has led us... to "this".

Basically, those with the power and the money obviously want to maintain that status quo. When global events - sometimes outside their control and sometimes because of it - impoverish or repress the masses, they (the 'elite') have to protect themselves from the anger and frustration which might see them relieved of both power and money - when the have-nots begin to rebel against the 'haves'.

Millions of angry people have to be controlled, otherwise there is the danger of revolution. The easiest way to do that is to divide the population and set one lot against the other by blaming sections of it for whatever current crisis pertains.

Then, instead of 'fighting' them, we fight each other. So they are free to continue with their self advancement, personal ambitions, money-making, power-grabbing, etc. They might be understandable human 'traits' but, if to attain them, you have to deceive, lie, say and do dishonourable things... then you 'aint a very nice person. And that's what we seem to have ended up with - some not very nice individuals in government. But as long as they can keep up the agitation-propaganda and push the narrative that if it wasn't for those "others" in society (and there's a big handful to choose from when playing the blame-game) we'd all be better off and the country would 'function' properly - then they're home and dry!

Of course, if the 'angry masses' did revolt and took control themselves - we'd still end up with some not very nice people in power, right? In such a 'cauldron', extremism always bubbles up to the top. It wouldn't be all love, light, equality and fraternity either!

As you can tell, I didn't study political science - this is just my simplistic view of how we-are-where-we-are. grin
