How do we think Alison did?

The fears on GN were that she would be too loud on the Love of Dogs programme. I thought she came across well and mostly spoke softly. Paul was a hard act to follow, but I was pleasantly surprised.

Granny Gravy, if Paul did let the dogs lick his mouth then the short and quick answer to that is YES!

Why on earth did you ask me that ?

I wish Julian Clary had been given the job. He was a good friend of Paul O’Grady.

I think he's busy starring on stage.

He does have dogs, though 🙂

I will give her a chance and watch it again .....Paul o'grady is a very hard act to follow ....I saw him at Edinburgh as Miss Hannigan in Annie with my eldest GD....2 days later he died ....I was really shocked

Unfortunately she didn't seem to connect with the dogs or have the right sense of humour. It was very strained.

Yes I agree.
I think Alan Carr would have been a good replacement.
It needs a bit of comedy.

Definitely agree!

You posted on 17/04 why on earth did she let the dog lick her face, yuk

Watched in the hope AH would prove my expectations of her as the presenter of the programme would be wrong, but unfortunately my fears were realised. AH has no empathy with the dogs, they seem to be extras in the AH Show! She was too loud and didn't really come over as comfortable with the dogs.
Definitely should have had Julian Clary or Martin Clunes.

Sorry cannot stand the woman, won't watch anything she's on!

I was hoping Martin Clunes would be offered the job and take it on. He’s very good with dogs.

The first time I ever saw Alison Hammon on TV was a put off for me and I have never watched her on TV since. She is too loud with a horrible laugh.

I caught up with Martin Clunes Pacific islands programme last night. What a nice man he is. Warm and friendly and funny.

We saw Martin filming Doc Martin once when we were on holiday in Port Isaac. He was delightful with people who asked him for selfies between takes. I have some photos of him somewhere. I would never ask anyone for a selfie but we took photos of them filming.

Off the top of my head I would say that Ricky Gervais, Peter Egan and Martin Clunes are too busy with their own work to commit to a programme like this. I was actually pleasantly surprised by Alison, who was much quieter than I expected. I'm sure the Battersea staff will educate her about anything she is doing wrong.

Precisely. I don’t quite understand why so many people assume that people such as Martin Clunes would actually agree to do the job.

Can’t stand the woman. Too loud and self absorbed. No one can replace Paul O’Grady but I’m sure there are more suitable ones out there. I for one won’t be watching.

Callistemon21 Tue 23-Apr-24 20:32:56

Just watched tonight's episode and I think she did just fine!

(She also seemed to have taken her false nails off by the end of the programme.)

Paul was such a hard act to follow, really he is irreplaceable but she did ok.

Charleygirl5 Tue 23-Apr-24 22:52:43

I did not mind watching her tonight although I cannot normally stand her because of her usual loudness. She does appear to care for the dogs.

One of the theatre staff should show her what to do with her hair when applying a paper cap. There was more hair hanging out than was hidden.

Perhaps somebody suggested her ghastly false nails should not be worn at Battersea when she has so much close contact with the dogs.

I had forgotten about Julian Clary, he would be ideal if he fancied the job.

I’ve never watched it before but made a point of watching it last night and thought she did just fine.
