Sparklefizz, that is the point, I always say that when they are criticised for having celebrities with a bit of experience, no one would want to watch twelve weeks of painfully awful dancing.
I love strictly, there is a lot I’m not keen on, like the silly nonsense between Tess and Claudia, makes me cringe at times, and all that awful emotional stuff, but it’s still great entertainment.
What annoys me with the BBC is that they don’t do anything until the papers get hold of something, you can’t tell me they didn’t know.

From what I have read a lot of footage was examined as a result of Amanda’s complaints about Giovanni. It was staff who saw the incidents of Graziano spitting on and kicking and hitting Zara. That is abuse not tough teaching. Given the abuse Amanda has received it’s not surprising that Zara said nothing. Graziano was sacked after admitting it. Giovanni resigned! I love Strictly and don’t want it to end and I think that the measures that have been suggested are an excellent idea providing those who are doing the monitoring have some guidance.

Amanda was certainly verbally abused, it was upsetting to read some verbal abuse on GransNet. Now a girl was was hit, kicked ,
spat at is being judged here

It’s like the people who say I was beaten as a child never did me any harm Really!!!
I know at least two men who were beaten or hard hit as children who went on to meter exactly the same treatment out to their wives
Absolutely NO need for violence or pain to teach a child or an adult how to dance or do anything and people who believe it’s the right way have been brainwashed by their own poor childhood experiences

How do you know you wouldn’t have been as good a dancer skater swimmer gymnast if you had been taught in a kinder way, absolutely no way of knowing at all that’s just an excuse, a justification

Have you ever seen a documentary within one of these schools I remember watching one years and years ago in a gymnastics school in Moscow Tiny children treated awfully complete abuse no life at all
I don’t watch ‘strictly) too much drivel and screaming audiences attached to it but I m glad these two men have been outed and removed

I don’t know much about the Amanda/Giovanni situation, it doesn’t seem to have been as openly discussed, but he has been with Strictly for many years, without a hint at inappropriate behaviour, I know some previous contestants are adding their voices now, but they never spoke out at the time.
Graziano is a different situation altogether, kicking? Spitting? Not only should he be sacked, but it seems something the police should be looking at.

That's exactly what I said earlier, what we need to be looking at is how to empower them to do so at the time. This would appear to be the hurdle to overcome.

I am such a big Strictly fan and wouldn’t like it taken off. I really enjoy the feel-good and fantasy leading up to Christmas.
Having every sympathy with Zara for her treatment, which should obviously never have happened, what does this say about the male professionals? Don’t think the female professionals have been using unacceptable tactics to become winners.
It takes a very long time to become a professional dancer and the celebs have very little time to prepare. I wonder how much thinking some of the celebs do before entering the competition? Just a thought.

My point is, even if these women didn’t speak out at the time, it seems improbable that no one knew what was happening, I love strictly, and I don’t want to believe that abuse was covered up for the sake of the show.
Also, it seems people’s ideas of abuse seem to vary.

Good point Sara1954. I would hope the Junior Production Assistants (often straight from college), will have not only adequate training, but more importantly a good grasp of what is and what is not acceptable. Otherwise one pro might be reported all the time for minor things and yet another might get away with it. Tricky.

This show has got far too professional and stagey. Lets get it back to what is was---a dance competition without all the glamour of shor, leg showing dresses.

I tend to agree, yellowfox. I love Strictly and would hate to see it taken off, but just calming it down a bit would be good I think. More a dance competition and less a Broadway show.

Maybe part of the problem is that the show tries to incorporate too many dancing genres, some more racy than others. The Waltz goes back to 18th Germany and Austria. It is of course very dainty, pretty and romantic. At the other end of the scale, you have the more modern Latin dances where the dancers' chemistry is almost as important as the dance itself. Then you have the young energetic jive, and the modern creations. Each one requires some exaggeration in its presentation for the audience to find it credible. As mentioned, there is then a danger it all becomes OTT.

Yes. What he said was unacceptable. Anton apologised, as did Prince Harry! It isn't a sackable offence, so he will remain as a Strictly judge.

Anton apologised profusely and publicly. At the time the apology was accepted and Rouass praised him as a partner and championed his appointment as a judge.

What other reason is there for bringing it up?

Those women who are now complaining should not have stood for any abuse, packed it in on the first time is occurred, but clearly, dosh and fame were more important at the time.

Yes, fame and money may have played a part, but

anyone who was bullied at school or even at work, will know how hard it was/is to report it and the stress if wondering what will happen if you do, or if you’ll be believed.

Yes, I commented on Wednesday about how horrible Brendan was to any of his partners who were no good.

Wasn't it Brendan who, after he'd left the show, used to sit on the sofa and criticise all the contestants and pros in a sour manner?
