Anyone watching? I like Jenna Coleman, but not sure we need another child grooming story. Also hadn't realised there were two different time scales!

Me three - in fact everyone has commented negatively. Beasteality involving an under age vulnerable, damaged girl - disgusting

Cadenza123 Thu 18-Jul-24 14:02:32

Totally underwhelmed. Not going to watch anymore.

Iam64.
Absolutely. I am no prude and definitely ancient enough to know about life, but I found this bestiality scene stomach-churning. I was also very glad I was on my own. Had others been there, I would have been beyond embarrassed!

As well as the stable scene, there was the scene with the two young couples having sex lying side by side. Both girls were said to be 15. Neither scene added anything to the storyline. Unnecessary and voyeuristic

Gave up on it

Clawdy,
We binged the whole series this week & it wasn’t entirely clear in the first episode that we were actually viewing two different time scales , Though I did say to my husband ‘they’ve gone back ‘ prior to it becoming clearer .
At the beginning of the first episode, we were ready to turn off as thought it wasn’t going to be that watchable for us , but we really got into it & thoroughly enjoyed it 👌

POSTSCRIPT:
I posted too early as I was going to also add that the sex scenes were unnecessary & we commented on just “WHY” the writer would be adding the stable scenerio !
Like everyone else , a lifetime of film &TV viewing has never before that I have watched & know of shown this type of act !
Absolutely disgusting, can’t wait for critics reaction in the media .

I’ve watched it all. It wasn’t so bad and had no problem whatsoever with that sound or dialogue. It’s definitely more than “just a programme about grooming”.

Nannan2 Fri 19-Jul-24 13:17:17

There was a stable?

Nannan2 Fri 19-Jul-24 13:25:05

Oh yes, with that twisted girl- totally unnessary and added nothing to storyline except to show she was twisted & showed her level of depravity.I also can't understand how malachy/mac would be so entranced by jenna's character that he wanted to change overnight& be agood person all of a sudden & want to marry her yet he STILL wanted to sleep with the twisted girl same night she died? (cant even remember her name?)

Iam64 Fri 19-Jul-24 13:27:41

The more I’ve reflected on The Jetty, the more I’ve disliked it. Gratuitous sex between an adult male and 15 year old girl sex that didn’t need to be demonstrated to prove it was happening. Jenna Coleman’s final message to another expoloited 15 year old implied perpetrators could have redeeming features - said no detective ever

Nannan2 Fri 19-Jul-24 13:29:36

Some parts of it definitely made no sense. The wife was a detective for goodness sake.Is that what made him turn over a new leaf? Or is that a job she took on after he died? &is that it,theyre just going to pin it on the other dead guy?Nothing explained enough.

kittylester Fri 19-Jul-24 13:45:51

Amy, the girl who died, reminded me of a girl at my school - the daughter of a well respected optician. She was an awful bully and made my life hell for a while.

Also, I don't actually know what she got up to, but rumours were rife about her outrageous behaviour outside school

She had a friend - very nice and quite 'innocent' who followed her in a way reminiscent of Kitty's behaviour. Her parent's were terribly worried about her friendship.

Make your own mind up. Some of us like it.

How could you miss the stable 🤷‍♀️

Iam64 Fri 19-Jul-24 13:52:47

It’s a discussion, not right or wrong mernice. It seems most of us , including you, have made our minds up

Cadeby Fri 19-Jul-24 14:12:06

I think this must be one of the most offensive and pointless things I have seen. Obviously abandoned it around episode 3 or so. What a waste of money and talent.

icanhandthemback Fri 19-Jul-24 14:26:12

I binge watched it but wouldn't bother again. I thought the ending was a bit far fetched.

Iam64 Fri 19-Jul-24 14:27:29

Cadeby - you were wise to dip out. The conclusion by the detective was in essence, accepting she’d been neglected groomed and exploited by the father of her child, the man she married. She excused his behaviour because he became a good husband and father. Additionally, she didn’t confess to her own crime so remained a detective
Humph

Lizzie44 Fri 19-Jul-24 14:58:31

I found it tedious and unpleasant. Murky sets, muffled speech, hard to follow.... no wonder I kept falling asleep in it. What happened to quality drama like Happy Valley?

Cadeby Fri 19-Jul-24 15:29:34

HV was in a class of its very own. Superb writing, acting, location, music.

Plus James Norton, even though he was a baddie.

😍

I was thinking of going back to it after having been thoroughly put off by episode 1, but on reading through many of your opinions, I'm thinking no, I trust your judgements, it sounds tawdry. I'm not going to waste my time. Shame I like Jenna Coleman.

Yes HV was wonderful, that calibre of series only comes along once in a while. Excellent cast James Norton mmmm! So good even when he's so bad.

Iam64 Fri 19-Jul-24 18:04:21

Tawdry is a good description TerriBull. The more I’ve reflected, the greater the unpleasant taste in left me with . Shame, I like Jenna Coleman

Allsorts Fri 19-Jul-24 18:07:35

I don’t enjoy watching Jemma so not tempted.
