Thank goodness a new series of Grace is back on ITV on Sunday evenings at 8pm. Peter James writes excellent thrillers and they are every bit as good on TV.
Like Vera, they are a complete story in one episode so I don't have to try to remember a complicated plot until the next episode a week later.
One of the best TV detective dramas.

I really enjoyed Sunday nights episode.

I watch very few dramas, but do like Grace for the reasons Sarnia gives. I have only watched half of Sunday's so far but enjoying it.

I’ve read the books, but I just can’t ‘warm’ to John Simm as Grace.

I also have read the books and enjoyed Sunday night's Grace. I think there are only 3 more of this series.

Yes watched it. Police/forensic procedure was lacking! Entering property without foot coverings and without all concerned wearing gloves. Made an attempt at using folded over glove picking up certain stuff. It was ok but not brilliant.

I love the books, but not so the tv series.

I don’t like the actor playing Grace, he doesn’t match up to my vision of him hahaha

Calendargirl Tue 03-Sept-24 12:13:23

I’ve read all the books.

No, John Simm isn’t ‘Grace’, neither is the actress playing his partner ‘Clio’.

But it’s a pleasant ‘ish’ way to spend two hours on a Sunday evening.

I forgot Sherwood was on at the same time, a much grittier watch.

I don't like the writer. Always bashed up women; people buried alive; this time a burning babydoll in a pram. Lovely Sunday Evening drama.

Exactly how I feel Calendargirl having read all the books so far. But then I am often disappointed by TV series taken from books I have read.

I am watching Grace on my iPad while doing my exercise bike, so probably not paying sufficient attention - but I am finding the stories v grim and rather silly.

I did watch a previous series and don’t recall it being so grim.
I see many fans of the books here - are all the novels gruesome?
No wish to offend anyone who enjoys the stories … I realise we all have different tastes.

Ive read all the books and enjoyed the programme but Grace is much more handsome than John Simm. 🥴🤣

I too have read (and enjoyed) all the books - but agree that Grace (in my mind's eye) is far more handsome, rugged and appealing than John Simm (sorry John 😔). And Cleo is nothing like the actress portraying her. I do wish when books were translated into screen/film productions, that they would make sure the characters where similar to the ones the author created.

Does anyone know why his wife is faffing around and not revealing herself to him, or have I missed something?

She disappeared a few years ago without a word to anyone ……..

grannybuy Wed 04-Sept-24 13:03:49

A friend recently passed on to me the Grace author’s book which explained the whole story of his wife’s disappearance, and, of course the reason why she’s not revealing herself.

Boolya Wed 04-Sept-24 13:16:01

Very convoluted plot. We lost interest.

Calendargirl Wed 04-Sept-24 13:19:10

The books are better.

Having said that, the last one I read wasn’t very good.

I have the latest Grace on order from the library, hope it’s an improvement.

missdeke Wed 04-Sept-24 13:28:34

I've never read the books but I really like the series, John Simm is fine for me probaby because I've not read the books.

Bazza Wed 04-Sept-24 13:36:59

I’m with Boolya. Too convoluted for me too, nodded off and then completely lost the plot. Loved the books though.

icanhandthemback Wed 04-Sept-24 14:25:57

I love the Grace books but have to agree that John Simm is not my idea of Grace. I normally love John Simm and I probably would have done if I hadn't had an image of Grace firmly implanted in my mind. I also think that they haven't really done the sub plot of Grace's missing wife justice either. I know what it is all about but my DH was somewhat confused.

Love the books as set in Brighton but the characters are totally mis -cast as far as I am concerned ! So I cannot watch it again 🤞

Oh I do agree

NanKate Wed 04-Sept-24 15:19:42

I’m enjoying it especially as my DS lives near Brighton so I recognise many of the places.

Now I’ll get a lot of flak for this. I wish the police woman with the short hair would grow it to cover her ears. 👂👂

Same here. Wasn't he a nurse in some long-running series? It's stuck in my head and he doesn't seem to have the gravitas a policeman needs.
