Thank goodness a new series of Grace is back on ITV on Sunday evenings at 8pm. Peter James writes excellent thrillers and they are every bit as good on TV.
Like Vera, they are a complete story in one episode so I don't have to try to remember a complicated plot until the next episode a week later.
One of the best TV detective dramas.

I have watched it, never read the books. I find series very grim and find John Simm very wooden, not endeared to any of the characters so I don't know why I continue watching. I like seeing Brighton though.

I stopped watching last night after about 15 minutes too GG13 I thought it was horrible and I didn’t relate to the characters seemed very unrealistic, branding her and only got a scream.
I like whodunits but no, didmt want to continue with that

I watched part of last night's episode and found it deeply unpleasant.

Sarnia

NanKate

I’m enjoying it especially as my DS lives near Brighton so I recognise many of the places.

Now I’ll get a lot of flak for this. I wish the police woman with the short hair would grow it to cover her ears. 👂👂

Shock horror! Laura Elphinstone is clearly happy in her own skin. Good for her when she works in an industry heavily influenced by looks and cosmetic procedures. Nasty remarks are best left unsaid.

For you Kate.

Sarnia, I don't think NanKate intended to be nasty.

Yes, John Simm does appear ‘wooden’.

And the way both he and his sidekick arrive at a crime scene, exit the car in their sharp suits with their dark glasses on, are they trying to look like US secret agents?

Not a good episode last night, quite unbelievable I thought. I did like the way they are exploring the Sandy storyline though.

Jaxjacky Mon 16-Sept-24 09:08:19

We enjoyed it and will continue watching, it’s not taxing and I think it’s covering the books pretty well.

eazybee Mon 16-Sept-24 09:25:19

You didn't find it taxing watching two people strapped into wooden boxes and periodically branded with a red-hot branding iron?

gulligranny Mon 16-Sept-24 10:27:12

NanKate, you do not need to apologise, you were clearly not being nasty but simply stating your view. The only person who might be offended by your remarks is the actress herself, so don't concern yourself. - DH and I had the same conversation!
Like we've also had a conversation about the rather small eyes of the actor playing the Assistant Chief Constable ...

NanKate Mon 16-Sept-24 11:11:43

Thank you gulligranny and Marydoll for your kind support.

I apologised but clearly some folks are not prepared to accept that genuine apology.

I didn't think it was nasty either.. I just didn't agree with you.. we all see people differently thank goodness..

John Simm and the guy who plays Norman are too good for this kind of stuff. No wonder Simm is wooden (bored!) and Norman too sensible for the usual ghastly ingredients of Jame's works.

Bored or not, it pays the bills though.

Delila Mon 16-Sept-24 17:25:54

For a drama starting at 8pm I’m quite surprised at how nasty it is. Perhaps nastiness doesn’t affect whether it’s shown before or after the watershed. In fact, is there still a 9pm watershed?

Jaxjacky Mon 16-Sept-24 17:58:38

It’s pretend easybee, so no, not us, but I respect others might not like it.

BlueBelle Mon 16-Sept-24 18:12:00

You enjoyed it Jaxjacky wow enjoy is a strange word when watching people being tortured

Terrible episode, but how do you get around this storyline, left to imagination I suppose, which let's face it most of it was, even so went out to make a drink at times,. I do wish that awful Assistant Chief would get his comeuppance, horrid man. As for John Sim wooden, down to directors play on it, his sidekick seems a bit naive to be a DI, getting reeled in by that reporter?. We shall see .

Nicely tied up last night and ready for the new series.
