Starring Anna Maxwell Martin and Shaun Evans.
Based on a true story. 4 parter.
So far, so good.

Getting back to Delia’s odd accent. I was thrown by this as well. But a friend who’s seen the documentary tells me that this is just how she speaks.
A victim can never be blamed because she made mistakes! That's letting the offender off the hook. No excuse what so ever for such violence.

Ohhh no! I cannot stand Anna Maxwell Martin!!! She has the smuggest face in the universe.
She reminds me of quite a few of the up their own bottom-type mums at the school gates. I cannot understand her appeal as any sort of a actress.
she probably calls herself an actoooor anyway. 🤔
I think she is a good actress but whatever she plays she always looks miserable and aloof. She looks pretty much the same in real life. Maybe she just has one of those faces.
Same as Nicola Walker who usually plays a detective and was also in Last Tango in Halifax. She always looks very uninterested in whatever she’s in and very po faced.
I liked it a lot and find it quite compelling.
But i do agree about the actress Anna Maxwell Martin.
A very strange and somewhat annoying character.
Slightly irritating.
Can’t wait to watch the next instalment.
Lily pops 100% agree with you
I binge watched it on Sunday. Thought it was very good production, awful story for actual person involved though.
I don't think I'll continue with this. Bad for my MH.
Regarding the mention of Nicola Walker being a bit similar to Anna Maxwell Martin, I have to disagree. Nicola Walker has a lovely face & dancing eyes too, unlike AMM.
I adored Nicola Walker in 'The Split'. She was so attractive & engaging ( I would have, if I was a man!).
No! Anna Maxwell Martin is a charmless actress; she probably came down via the route of the poncy Spotlights or some-such. No, not a fan. Ps, I hated her in the clever, spot- on 'Motherland' too. 🤔

Good Grief! Don’t hold back. 😮
I’m a fan of Anna MM. I think she’s a very talented actress. But then again I love Motherland, Line of Duty and Ludwig. And to be fair her characters in all three are very similar. She’s playing this part very well though, imho.
I haven’t watched any of the other series she has been in but I think her acting here is very good. It is very difficult to portray a living person.
Surely the fact that she is an awkward, dislikable character is deliberate in the story line, just to show that abuse can happen to anyone?

Sorry Merlotgran, ohh I did get a bit ranty but sometimes a particularly someone just gets my goat (An old horseracing saying) and I just have to say that which shouldn't be said sometimes 😉. Also, my darling Mother is no longer here to sneakily wack me on the leg under the table so I'm now dangerously uncensored ! 🥴
I watched it so far and will watch until the end. I think either tomorrow or Thursday the actual victim in real life of this drama is on TV telling what it was actually like to live through it ....grusome, but sadly these things DO go on ......hopefully the woman in real life has managed to overcome the trauma

She does have a lovely face but whoever she plays she always has that wide eyed bored look.
I’ve just watched programme number three. She certainly was a very dislikable person, both before her horrific experience and afterwards too. She was so lucky to meet the oh so patient Michael (I think that’s his name.)
I don’t blame her for her feelings about the police and the judiciary. She was as near murdered as was possible and their attitude was extremely cavalier about her safety. As for the magistrate who decided that her attacker was able to be let out under a ‘Christmas amnesty,’ well words fail me. I’m a huge supporter of the police and judiciary, but the events surrounding this lady’s treatment are quite appalling. The man who attacked her and tried to kill her was truly evil, but I think she could have received better protection from the police.
I think things have improved now, but there is surely still room for further improvement.
Watched 3 episodes last night, thought it was excellent

David.😉
I would not go to the police as my first point of call if in a domestic situation sadly! I remember running to the local policeman's house in our street as a little girl because my mad father was hitting mum and throwing stuff about! I knocked on the policemans door crying, covered in the milk\flour ect that my mad father had thrown at us all!
The policeman could see I was distressed, I was about 6yrs old & I said "Help Dad's killing Mummy!" He said he wasn't on duty and banged the door shut on my little- broken face!
Things hopefully may have changed now but it was too late for my clever, lovely mum, who was only at peace once the tosser had died. 🤔
It must be hard to ever put that behind you.
There is someone with a similar tale here on gransnet.
I have tried three times to watch this and realise I am falling asleep because it does not engage me, just horrifies.
I admire Anna Maxwell-Martin as an actress and felt she was miscast in this. She has played a range of characters who are generally measured and considered which is why perhaps she failed to convince me as this strange woman suffering appalling attacks. Sean Evans did convince, possibly because I didn't make the connection with Endeavour.
This horrific story did engage me but I agree Anna MM didn’t seem well cast, whereas he did. I wasn’t aware of him before, I’m not very good on actors, but thought he was very convincing.
I wasn’t aware of him before
You have obviously never watched ‘Endeavour’.
Please do, you will see a different Shaun Evans (much nicer).
I didn’t watch Endeavour. Was too fond of the original Morse series.
