Not another celebrity accused of sexual misconduct ! This time it's Gregg Wallace! Kirsty Wark accused him from 2011.

I often wonder when people suggest that the complainants in these type of cases ie harassment, inappropriate 'banter' etc., are being 'woke' or have no sense of humour if they would think it so harmless if it was their daughter or wife who was on the receiving end. I suspect not

Other choice and tired remarks that mysoginists use when you fail to respond with gushing glee to their "banter" are: "wot? You a lesbian?" and "you frigid or somefink?"
They see themselves as indulging in carefree bonhomie. Women, of course, are defective due to hormones........give me strength.

Although I do think this cant just be put down to the behaviour of one man, as with Russel Brand some of these incidents were filmed and were deemed ok.

Sparklefizz Sun 01-Dec-24 09:55:54

I am disappointed that yet again the BBC seem to have brushed bad behaviour under the carpet.

Think Gregg should stop digging!

The video has just been on the Laura Kuensberg (sp) programme.

DH and I said the same when we saw that clip, he should have the decency to keep quiet until the enquiry (I assume there will be one)

Sparklefizz Sun 01-Dec-24 10:24:17

Well, he has shown us who he really is now !!

eazybee Sun 01-Dec-24 11:24:40

Having just seen the video of Wallace delivering his remarks about middle class women, I now understand why the reprimands from the television companies following complaints about his behaviour made no impact on him whatsoever.

HousePlantQueen Sun 01-Dec-24 11:46:55

His "defence" address must have been suggested by someone who really hates him. Unbelievably crass. His career is finished. Although he may end up as an "anti-woke" ranter on the kind of programmes which I never watch anyway.

I don't think they have. They are being very pro-active in dealing with it. But like many examples we are faced with atm, it has taken a critical mass of information and complaints and active organisation to all come spilling out.

eddiecat78 Sun 01-Dec-24 12:18:20

He's 60 - doesn't that make him a " man of a certain age"? It's no wonder he marries younger women - no "woman of a certain age' would give him the time of day

Aveline Sun 01-Dec-24 12:21:00

Dearie me. What inappropriate self confidence that man has. So just plain stupid to belittle the complainers. Makes him look even guiltier.
Whatever. He's finished now. Who's going to employ him?

Not surprising at all. I’ve always thought GW - at least, the tv persona - is creepy, full of his own importance and utterly repulsive.

You took the words right out of my mouth! He is the creepiest, ugliest apology for a man and I can’t understand any sane woman wanting to be anywhere near the creepy little toad! That smile of his turns my stomach!
I’m not keen on Torode either. He always looks as though his hair could do with a good wash!

You couldn’t make this up.
His friends are claiming he’s Autistic. 😡

He definitely has an autistic son, he may be autistic himself. That’s not an excuse for his behaviour though.

You mean women have actually SLEPT with this dreadful person? And at least one actually married him??? Are they blind, mad or just plain stupid?
Seriously, I feel sorry for his son, but hope to god he doesn’t turn out like his sleazy father!

MissAdventure Sun 01-Dec-24 14:10:28

grin

HousePlantQueen Sun 01-Dec-24 14:19:20

I thought Kirsty (of Location, location) hit the nail on the head today. She said that GW's comment about "middle class" women inferred that his boorish behaviour was acceptable to "working class" men and women, and was not only incorrect but very insulting

Ilovedogs22 Sun 01-Dec-24 14:22:03

Well, if it all turns out to be true about Mr Wallace, I'll be horrified! Both for the poor victims & also at my stupid-self for being so taken-in by yet another TV tosser! Not to mention the poor family of the perpetrators.
I can't quite understand why these types of things take so long to surface? It's probably due to the absolute shock & disbelief that the victims experience when the celebrity's bubble of respectability suddenly implodes horribly before their very eyes. 😶

He's surely innocent until proven guilty isn't he Sparklefizz? 😚

Also happened on Channel 5, which probably explains why its taken a long time to surface since its dealing with different organisations.

"A woman said that while making the programmeGregg Wallace’s Big Weekendsin 2019, (Channel 5) he became “fascinated” by her relationships with women and wanted to know the “logistics” of how she dated.
Another woman told BBC News that while working on the Channel 5 programme at the same time Wallace’s conversation often revolved around sex, including spanking and domination.
Channel 5 said that it took the allegations “extremely seriously” and that the production company Rumpus was looking into the claims. Rumpus said: “We do not tolerate inappropriate behaviour on our productions.”

Redhead56 Sun 01-Dec-24 14:39:56

Why did they carry on working with him if he was so vile. They could have just walked away instead they smiled away while cooking on celebrity masterchef.
If anyone made patronising sexist or crude remarks to me they would regret it straight away.

MissAdventure Sun 01-Dec-24 14:45:24

Maybe vecause everyone else seemed to not make a fuss?

Everdene Sun 01-Dec-24 15:17:38

Redhead56 I assume one reason why the celebrities decided to carry on and not walk away was because they were under contract and were being paid a reasonable sum to appear on the show.

Wyllow3 Sun 01-Dec-24 15:19:03

Possibly because there have been long term cases of rape or indecent assault coming to light, and women thought they only had a right to complain when it came to that?
It's taken quite a long time for co-ercive abuse (which this is) to be taken really seriously.

The other practical reason is that the programmes were not made "in house" at the BBC or Channel 5, but by production companies, so one step removed as in who to complain to.

"On Thursday, MasterChef's production company Banijay UK said Wallace would step away from presenting the show while allegations of historical misconduct were investigated. The 60-year-old is "committed to fully co-operating throughout the process", Banijay added."

Oh yes - I've heard both of those.

"Are you a lesbian?" asked a 20-something idiot who'd tried to chat-me up - on an escalator of all places at Piccadilly Circus underground station.

I was about 13 at the time and not totally convinced I knew much about lesbianism. I felt brave because there were a lot of people around, so I just said, "No, I'm not, I just think you are very ugly.

... can't remember how he responded though - he said something and then just disappeared.

I told my mum and she explained along the lines of there being men who were so full of themselves they were too stupid to realise that they were neither entertaining nor attractive to women.

And they will, of course, always blame the women who either rejected them or found them offensive.

... it's all the fault of "middle-class women of a certain age"... apparently.

As you say - give me strength.

Which one? 1,2,3 or 4?

Babs03 Sun 01-Dec-24 16:05:35

Another social dinosaur who fails miserably to read the room with regard to women.
Fact is we hated it many moons ago when bosses thought nothing of slapping a young female employees backside or making offensive sexist remarks to howls of laughter from other men, but we felt powerless to do anything about it. Thank goodness women today - and men - are making a stand against this.
