Not another celebrity accused of sexual misconduct ! This time it's Gregg Wallace! Kirsty Wark accused him from 2011.

I was attempting to point out the length of time it took both women to be aware of something untoward happening to them.

I'm pretty sure they were only too aware of what was happening to them - but as several of us have tried to explain on here, there can be any number of reasons why someone does not report or speak up at the time.

When you took your car into the garage for a service, there were always girly calendars on display.

They seemed to be synonymous with greasy overalls and spanners.

So glad women are confident enough to speak up unlike years ago when you kept quiet rather than suffer more embarrassment

Fleurpepper Sat 30-Nov-24 12:05:36

Don't be silly, don't be so sensitive, it's only banter, etc. And 'what do you expect, wearing a crop top or a short skirt' - you were asking for it, etc, etc.

"What's the matter with you - no sense of humour?"
"Miserable cow."

No, you're a sexist misogynist.

Aveline Sat 30-Nov-24 15:53:05

Earlier this year I snapped back at a man for mindlessly making sexist misogynist comments to me. He was genuinely surprised. It simply hadn't occurred to him that his comments were inappropriate. He wasn't a bad man just hadn't (ever) thought that others might not appreciate what he was saying.

HousePlantQueen Sat 30-Nov-24 15:53:34

I often wonder when people suggest that the complainants in these type of cases ie harassment, inappropriate 'banter' etc., are being 'woke' or have no sense of humour if they would think it so harmless if it was their daughter or wife who was on the receiving end. I suspect not

I’ve been on Gransnet for many years and I think attitudes have changed with regard to “victim shaming” on here. I think a few years ago, more older women did so, but far fewer now, thank goodness.

Ilovedogs22 Sat 30-Nov-24 20:24:49

Well I have to say that I'm shocked!
I though I was a good judge of character but this is a real curveball
I wouldn't have thought that Greg Wallace would be capable the of stuff that's been written about in the papers. He could be inoccent,
we shall see. Shocked! 😵

The sleaziest man I came up against was a police officer. His remarks were quite innocent, it was just his tone of voice that gave me the creeps. Then my 6' 4" husband joined me and he faded away.

Retroladywriting

Not surprised at all. He's always given me the heeby jeebies.

Just how I feel.

Luckygirl3 Sun 01-Dec-24 06:14:24

I find learning about how things are manufactured and the inner workings of factories fascinating .. but simply cannot watch his programme as he is so creepy.

mum2three Sun 01-Dec-24 06:25:33

This doesn't surprise me in the least. So many men are stuck in adolescence, and never lose their obsession with sex. Anyone who has watched his documentaries will be aware of how juvenile he is.

Esmay Sun 01-Dec-24 07:03:31

I knew someone ,who complained to the BBC about his teenage daughter being molested by Jimmy Savile on Top of The Pops .
He had some connections with the BBC through his ex -wife and thought that he had some clout .
He was quickly told not to make accusations or else !
I've heard some unpleasant stories about other celebrities .
The trouble is for some arrogance combines with fame and a strong sense of entitlement .

vegansrock Sun 01-Dec-24 07:45:55

Now he’s defending himself saying the complaints are from “middle class women of a certain age “. - oh that’s alright then.

Jaxjacky Sun 01-Dec-24 08:11:32

Shot himself in the foot vegansrock any vague vestige of rescue now gone, stupid as well as a lech.

Galaxy Sun 01-Dec-24 08:28:58

The middle age women thing is frequently used with regard to misogyny, it tends to be older women who highlight safeguarding concerns, there are various reasons for this, but we should never ignore them when they raise the red flag.

mae13 Sun 01-Dec-24 09:07:19

Just heard on Classic FM that Wallace has been whinging about "middle class women of a certain age".........yeah, keep on digging Greg, keep on digging........rock bottom can't be far off.

MissInterpreted Sun 01-Dec-24 09:15:08

Well, he certainly hasn't done himself any favours there, has he? As mae13 says, keep on digging, Gregg - I'm sure plenty of 'middle class women of a certain age' will lend a hand to dig that hole!

kittylester Sun 01-Dec-24 09:21:34

Think Gregg should stop digging!

The video has just been on the Laura Kuensberg (sp) programme.

What a plonker

Kandinsky Sun 01-Dec-24 09:26:31

I’m a bit torn on this one.
Maybe it is just a handful of uptight middle aged women with no sense of humour?
Or maybe he did overstep the mark.
Without being there at the time it’s difficult to know.

But I’m inclined to think this is all another load of nonsense.

Galaxy Sun 01-Dec-24 09:30:56

What do you think Gregg Wallace's reaction would be if in his workplace a man was continually making sexual comments to him.
I am always fascinated that middle aged is seen as a slur.
If middle aged is a slur and 'not reliable' then we can ignore all of Gregg Wallace's denials, after all he is only a middle aged man.

ferry23 Sun 01-Dec-24 09:31:25

Good one Gregg, let's add age and class into the mix.

He must have thought all his Christmases had come together when he got partnered with Aliona in Strictly, but first he tells her he doesn't wear underwear when his trousers split in training, and then blames her for being voted out because he said she didn't like him.

Yeh, her and thousands of others Gregg.

Is this for real? Or is this your Gransnet name Gregg?
