I never watched this when it was aired - only ever saw bits of it on Gogglebox.

However, I finally gave in to all the hype and have watched the box set on iplayer.

Apart from Pam & Mick, I don't really find any of the other characters either particularly likeable, or particularly interesting. I don't hate it but I can think of a lot more programmes I'd rather watch.

Are there any diehard fans on here? I'm sure I must be in the minority given all the fuss about the Christmas programme.

James Corden was superb and hilarious when we saw him in One Man Two Guvnors.

Athrawes Thu 26-Dec-24 11:41:00

Loved it!

I don't much like James Corden, but he is Smithy in Gavin and Stacey, and most people can see the difference between an actor and the role he's playing.

JaneJudge Thu 26-Dec-24 11:52:26

I loved it smile

Anything with the unfunny James Corden is obviously directed towards the very lowest common denominator......

that's nice to know grin another thing to add to the list

Exactly Doodledog I enjoyed it so really not bothered about other opinions.

We're all different. Pam is my least favourite character but then Alison Steadman is my least favourite character in anything.

We are all different. I would watch anything with Alison Steadman in it. I really enjoyed it even though I'm usually an old cynic!

Rude, James Cordon is a actor and he portrays Smithy well. Honestly why come on a thread like this to moan and complain.

Also the posters who come on and say never watched it, why, it's of no interest to the thread. Its like you feel superior saying that, uts tedious.

Yes, he was, wasn't he.

mae13 you don't have to like an actor as a person in order to appreciate their acting. What a pity that you've deprived yourself of a genuinely enjoyable programme.
I, and many others, loved it.

Anniebach Thu 26-Dec-24 12:34:36

I certainly enjoyed it

Marthjolly1 Thu 26-Dec-24 12:44:35

Absolutely loved it. After so much hype recently I did wonder if it might disappoint. I've missed most of the last couple of series but it was so well written I didn't feel I'd missed out too much. I laughed my socks off all the way through. Just brilliant writing. Fabalus ending. Thankyou James and Ruth.

Loved it😂😢

Babs03 Thu 26-Dec-24 13:46:36

It was tidy.
Absolutely loved it.
Laughed and cried in equal measure, have watched Gavin and Stacey for many years, and of course it never was all about Gavin and Stacey but Nessa and Smithy.
Hats off to all the regulars. A corking finish and of course Nessa and Smithy had to get together. Made my night 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Number of people who watched Gavin & Stacey and 96% reportedly gave it a thumbs up = 12.3 million
Number of people who thought it obviously directed towards the very lowest common denominator : 1 *mae13*

We thought so too, Kate.

kittylester Thu 26-Dec-24 14:32:07

But, what happened on the fishing trip?

merlotgran Thu 26-Dec-24 14:33:33

Thanks to iPlayer it’s now 12.3 million +1.

Cracking!

It must be lovely to be so sure that you set the standard and that your judgment is far superior to most of the rest of the country.

Exactly!

kittylester Thu 26-Dec-24 15:15:26

There will have to be one mire, won't there?

Mollygo Thu 26-Dec-24 15:30:42

Tried it at the start way back in 2007 on the recommendation of DD, but soon gave up.
Watched the finale so I’d know what to say if she asked me, but I don't feel I’ve missed much.
Strange really because I like James Corden and Alison Steadman.
A finale would be a good idea for several series IMO, but if the viewing figures are high, who’s to say there won’t be one more as kittylester said.

Neil the baby singing of the Beatles song ‘Blackbird’ was superb
Be lovely to hear more of him

Galaxy Thu 26-Dec-24 15:37:12

Yes that was lovely.
