TV, radio, newspapers and magazines are stuffed with little else on New Years Eve.

Well, it's cheap to dredge up a heap of dog-eared memories, innit?

Aveline Wed 31-Dec-25 11:52:37

I hate those! I turnover the pages of them when I read the newspapers.

JaneJudge Wed 31-Dec-25 11:59:16

It is the first time I haven't bought a Radio Times at Christmas

ViceVersa Wed 31-Dec-25 12:15:18

Well, take it from someone who used to have to compile those, it wasn't much fun from that side of things either!

Galaxy Wed 31-Dec-25 12:30:30

It was £ 6.50, the Radio Times. Dh bought it without my permissiongrin

I think it's interesting to see what happened this year. Sometimes you think it happened far longer ago so you're surprised it's so recent and some things you had simply missed or perhaps forgotten. It puts things into perspective.

I have been wondering whether to give it a miss next year.

The Radio Times was extra thick, but the programme information didn’t begin until half way through. Just a lot of bumf on new programmes and celebs in the first half….and nothing much worth watching in the rest.

Grandma70s Wed 31-Dec-25 14:12:56

The Radio Times is essential to my life at any time of year. I have it delivered, have done for years.

Our library has an app called Libby which gives us hundreds of free magazines, including the Radio Times, and all the other TV listing magazines. Maybe your library has something similar? We also get free newspapers, e-books and audio books with their Borrowbox app.

Ooh. May be coming back to this post!

I have been trying for ages to sort myself out on this subject.
Even visited the library a few times.
Never had Libby mentioned to me.
Nor Borrowbox.
Did wonder if I was missing out somehow.

My son pays for a subscription to Radio Times, which arrives in my letterbox every week. Got the Christmas special somewhat earlier and was able to pass that on to local daughter with whom I was going spend most of christmas.

Do enjoy articles and quizes in RT each week.

Your library may use different apps fancythat. I live in Cheshire. When I set up a new tablet for my sister in Yorkshire, her library uses Pressreader and Overdrive and Borrowbox. Go to your library webpage, it should tell you if they have the facilities for downloading these things, and which apps they use. You then get the apps from your app store. If you are struggling let me know which library you belong to, and I will try to find them for you.

Shocking! Did he know it was just a rehash of years gone by as everything is a repeat?

DH picked one up in Tesco then put his copy back when he realised how much it was. Is he a Scrooge? Should I be worried?

Galaxy Thu 01-Jan-26 12:54:37

No, he is a keeper. You have done well.

I can't believe it was £6.50 though. Magazines are so expensive too, you can buy a book for the same price

singingnutty Thu 01-Jan-26 13:39:38

I like the Radio Times but it is very expensive. I take out a subscription when it’s on offer and cancel it when it’s about to auto renew. The only problem is doing that at the right time - I think I may have missed it this time! Just off to put that on my New Year’s Day 2026 list of ‘Things to do’.

Borrowbox. We get this too. I like the audio books. I went through all the "Vera" books, and now search randomly for anything I like. Not a fan of new badly written books! DH gets all the newspapers and magazines on Pressreader, he absolutely loves it. Hooray .
