Dawn French half hour play.. good so far

Oreo Wed 07-Jan-26 21:40:53

Have recorded it to watch tomorrow, it sounds fun.

granfromafar Thu 08-Jan-26 17:14:09

Have just caught up with the first episode and on the second now. Completely daft but occasionally funny.

Slimswim Fri 09-Jan-26 13:24:22

Found it absolutely awful, watched ten times and gave up.

spanielsmum Fri 09-Jan-26 13:47:49

Slimswim, I agree. Sat through the first and half of the second and gave up. Won't be watching anymore. She's such a good actress too to waste her talents on this tripe.

keepingquiet Fri 09-Jan-26 13:52:30

I haven't seen it because I wanted to love it but feared I might hate it... I doubt I will watch it now.

Kate1949 Fri 09-Jan-26 13:57:41

I've never found Dawn French to be as funny as she thinks she is. In fact, not funny at all.

Cossy Fri 09-Jan-26 14:08:02

Thing is, I love Dawn French and her humour, and daft as it it I laughed and I like the ludicrous plot too, so I’ll be watching the whole series and hopefully chuckling.

Black humour, enjoying it!

I watched the first episode and that was enough for me. The humour did not appeal to me at all and Dawn French is worthy of better.

Oreo Fri 09-Jan-26 21:32:42

Oh dear, I was just about to watch it, well I will give it ten mins just to see.

It took you 10 watches to come to the conclusion its crap 😂
It took me one viewing of the advert to come to the same conclusion 😂

Primrose53 Fri 09-Jan-26 21:55:09

Disappointing.

sassenach512 Fri 09-Jan-26 23:09:09

Not even a chuckle I'm afraid, it's just too daft to be funny and the awful wallpaper in every room doesn't help

TillyTrotter Fri 09-Jan-26 23:20:32

It didn’t float my boat so I won’t be watching further episodes.
But I hope other Grans enjoy it.
Dawn French has had a great career on TV this far.
(She and I are the same age).

Sadgrandma Sat 10-Jan-26 06:48:28

Watched the first episode and didn’t laugh once. Won’t be bothering with the rest. Disappointed.
Why oh why can’t they make any funny programmes anymore. Where are the Only Fools and Horses, Fawlty Towers, The Good Life etc type programmes or has people’s sense of humour changed so much?

Oreo Sat 10-Jan-26 08:00:51

It had the bones of a plot to be funny and I like both main actors but somehow it misfired.I did watch all of it and found some lines amusing.

Astitchintime Sat 10-Jan-26 08:07:53

The decor in the house was enough to put me off……….Dawn French did often seem to blend in with the wallpaper. I persevered with the first episode but didn’t bother with any more.

Aveline Sat 10-Jan-26 08:14:44

Just not funny. Gave up on it.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 10-Jan-26 08:34:04

I felt rather underwhelmed and disappointed, not sure I will bother watching any more.

Looks like you and I are in the minority haha grin

I’m not a big Dawn French fan, but I thought this was quite funny. Funny enough to give it another try, anyway.

Did you mean ten minutes?

I had recorded this, and after reading comments on here, did watch the first episode. Did not 'recognise' Dawn French at all.

Did make me thing about the true life story of the man and his wife who staged his death in the sea, and then he lived in the flat next door to his house, whilst the claim on his life insurance went through.

Sure that real story provided the basis for this. After the one episode, not sure of it. Did not actually laugh out loud at any point, but it was an 'easy watch', so will see how I feel after the next episode.

Usedtobeblonde Sat 10-Jan-26 10:18:29

I didn’t think much of the first episode but decided to persevere as things often get more watchable.
Sad to say this didn’t, it got worse, a disappointment but DF just can’t help acting like a female buffoon as she did in The Vicar of Dibley and the M&S Christmas ads.

Basgetti Sat 10-Jan-26 13:24:48

On the list. Mark Heap is always worth watching.
