Jobcenter Targeting older (55yrs onwards) women!

As some of you know I am on Jobseekers looking for a job.
Had my "review" today! no one told me it was my review until I arrived(apparently I could have claimed my bus fare) hmm!

Anyway as I was being "interviewed" interrogated about my work search, I just happened to say...well let's face it! I'm 61 this year where am I going to find a job especially with my poor CV ?

Girl of around 26ish then said..we expect you to have found work within the first 13 weeks of signing on Jobseekers,(Iv been on it since 1st of July last year) but you have been with us longer! hmm she said and these were her actual words..." we are targeting your age group !" yes she used the word "targeting"!

As I have certificates in Tongue holding I sat there and said nothing (didn't want to jeopardise my £73 a week spends) she said we aim to get you back to work within I think she said 6 months.

I then asked what if I wasn't. She says "we will put you on a work plan) hmm I'm off to google "workplan" in 2 mins. and reminded me that I should be searching and applying for at least 2/3 per day (21 per week)!and be prepared to travel 90 mins (didn't dare ask if that's each way) shock she asked if I was "fit" I just said well yes I can walk.

So be prepared any ladies out there if your over 55 and either having to look for work or been/being made redundant and having to visit the Jobcenter. "forewarned" maybe I should have started a blog ehhh!

You might enjoy this, biker, IDS visiting a job centre.

Oh what a mess things are in! it makes me feel I'm quite well off (not financial) but physically so to speak..These people have lots of hoops to jump through.I suppose in years gone by some have sort of taken advantage of the system and now all are paying the price.

I'm just pleased I am older than you, biker, and got my pension at sixty.
It nearly doubled, as well, when my husband died. He had only had his pension for six months, so they saved on him.
Rather have him back, though.

This is even worse job centre targeting of older women.

durhamjen nothing surprises me, the cruelty of these so called Gov Bodies is just speachless, I only hope that one just one day they themselves will be in the same situation (although we know they wont as they have themselves all covered nicely)!

Yesterday my mum collapsed and ambulance was called etc , so knew that she would need looking after, I was due to start a cleaning course(from the jobcenter) I rang and explained to my support worker, who said she would ring me back which she did..but by this time my mum had another episode and had to go in hospital via ambulance etc where she still is at the mo. On telling my support worker this..her reply was , we have cancelled your course andput to down as "a home emergency" or something like that and re scheduled my course .But! I was asked thats if I could bring any proof in to show that my mum had been taken in hospital and thats why I couldn't go on the course!!!!!!!!!! I have still got to sign on tomorrow. jst had a call to pick my mum up now smile bye all...dont let the bu**ars get you down anyone!!!

Sorry to hear that, biker. Hope she's okay now. That does not follow; just because they've asked you to pick her up does not mean she should be discharged.

Just thought you should see this, from a debate in the House of Commons yesterday.

"In my experience, there have been other cases of people facing great hardship through the incompetence of the programme so far. Basic work with different agencies has not taken place. For example, one of my constituents was previously in receipt of jobseeker’s allowance and was subsequently moved on to universal credit. Upon going to the dentist he required treatment, which was free under the NHS. When he was filling in the usual form, he was advised to tick the box marked “income-based jobseeker’s allowance”, as there was no box for universal credit. Subsequently, he was billed and pursued by the NHS Business Services Authority and threatened with county court action for a false declaration. If that is the level of co-operation between different agencies at this stage, what hope is there for the future?"

A discussion on Universal Credit in the North West in Westminster Hall.
A reason to be honest.

I think the same as you, biker; karma. They do not need to be in the same situation, just get their just deserts.

This is about what happens in jobcentres these days - or rather outside them.
Is this what you encounter, biker?
