I received a message from Track and Trace today to say I was in contact with someone positive last week and have to self isolate until 23:59 Xmas day tchconfused!

Boris scuppered our original plans Saturday afternoon, but we readjusted and I planned to go to spend it with DD2, her partner and my DGS. (I am a single household)
Now I will have to spend it alone tchsad
I have had all day to get my head around it, and accept that I have to do this to keep everyone safe. But I have hosted Christmas for years and am feeling a bit hard done by tchsad!!!

Oh no, that’s dreadful news. Nothing I can say will make you feel any better, but I do hope that you will be able to see your family through the wonders of technology. Thinking of you ?

Grannynannywanny Mon 21-Dec-20 18:31:50

Oh dear that’s really unfortunate timing Flaxseed. I hope you remain symptom free and also that you have food in the house.

grannyrebel7 Mon 21-Dec-20 18:35:56

Could you go on Boxing Day instead then?

Oopsadaisy1 Mon 21-Dec-20 18:55:52

Flaxseed do they tell you who or where you have been close to someone ? Or do they leave you to wonder.

Iam64 Mon 21-Dec-20 18:56:09

I hope you stay covid free flaxeed and that you manage to muddle through as so many people will be doing this year. In lockdown 1, I didn't know people who had the virus. Currently, I know 7 people who tested positive plus about 20 who have had the virus in the past several weeks. Thankfully, most have recovered. Two of my neighbours weren't so lucky.

Keep safe every one.

sodapop Mon 21-Dec-20 19:00:35

That is real bad luck Flaxseed Hope you haven't caught it.
Could you see your family on Boxing Day as Grannyrebel said.
Fingers crossed you are oktchsmilethanks

Blossoming Mon 21-Dec-20 19:01:16

That must feel like a low blow, hope it’s not too long before you are able to see them safely. flowers

Flaxseed Mon 21-Dec-20 19:06:51

grannyrebel7 I am working Boxing Day hmm!

oopsadaisy They tell you a date which was no help really as I had been to a few places

I have some Zoom calls planned with my family and plenty of food and drink so will just have to make the best of it I guess!
It all started to go pear shaped when we entered tier 4 so this is the icing on the cake tchhmm

Grannynannywanny Mon 21-Dec-20 19:38:39

I’m just thinking the track and trace system is performing poorly with you more than half way through your 10 day isolation period before you received the alert today Flaxseed.

I feel for you, missing your Christmas lunch and then working on Boxing Day as soon as you are out of isolation ?

Elegran Mon 21-Dec-20 19:43:40

Flaxseed Are you sure it was a genuine message? I have heard that there are some sick bastards who send fake Track and Trace messages. That timing of 23.59 on Xmas Day sounds a bit suspiciously accurate to me. Is it meant to mean that your contact was at 23.59 on some other day?

kircubbin2000 Mon 21-Dec-20 19:48:08

One of my Facebook friends posted the same yesterday but today he has decided it must have been a mistake!I wonder how many others have this attitude.

Flaxseed Mon 21-Dec-20 19:54:29

I think it’s genuine. It was a notification and when I checked my T&T app there it was with my countdown in days.
Grannynanny That’s what I thought! We are half way through the 10 day incubation period and I have only just been informed! I’ve been all over the place in that time tchhmm

Flaxseed Mon 21-Dec-20 19:57:07

In a way, I am glad the plans had changed before this fiasco. At least my family have had time to go out and get supplies! (I am quarantining some food for them in the fridge in my shed!)

welbeck Mon 21-Dec-20 23:31:21

but i thought tier 4 people were not allowed to meet others except in the open air for a walk.
doesn't actually make any difference to me, so i may have got the detail wrong, but i've just read a resume from the evening standard which seems to be saying that. only for support, or separated parents. not for leisure, social mingling. so would you have been able to go somewhere else for lunch anyway?

Hetty58 Tue 22-Dec-20 00:21:19

That's exactly what I thought too, welbeck. Flaxseed, it's just one day, soon over. Here's hoping that you're well (far more important) and haven't been spreading the virus. Next year, we can make up for it!

BlueBelle Tue 22-Dec-20 00:27:29

Can’t you get a test and if it’s negative carry on with your plans

crazyH Tue 22-Dec-20 00:46:12

The track and trace people - do they ring you/leave message, phone you or email you .

Hetty58 Tue 22-Dec-20 01:00:53

I think you get a text.

Flaxseed Tue 22-Dec-20 08:19:40

I could have joined my DD as I am a single household.

bluebelle I did hope that I could do that but I asked on my work (nhs staff) support group and I have to self isolate regardless, as I could develop symptoms at any point during the incubation time.
So far, I feel well. Thank goodness

Flaxseed Tue 22-Dec-20 08:36:27

Track and trace do apparently call but I have had nothing yet. My app is still counting the days down for me!

Most people are counting ‘Sleeps til Santa’, I’m counting ‘Sleeps til my release!’ grin

welbeck Tue 22-Dec-20 23:52:04

OP, are you sure that would have been allowed; here is an extract from The Independent, one day ago:

“In England, those living in tier 4 areas should not mix with anyone outside their own household at Christmas,” the prime minister said

If you planned to reunite with people from different households in an area that is being placed under the new tier 4 restrictions, you will have to revisit your plans.

Residents in areas facing the new tier 4 measures will be able to see someone over Christmas, but they will only be allowed to see one person from another household and the meeting will have to take place outdoors.

Grannynannywanny Wed 23-Dec-20 00:00:53

welbeck my understanding is that as Flaxseed lives alone she is within the guidelines to form an extended household bubble regardless of tiers.

Or she would have been if she hadn’t received a text to say she may have been in contact with someone who has tested positive.

Iam64 Wed 23-Dec-20 09:31:18

I risked the hair salon yesterday.. Very well organised and socially distanced, every area cleaned rigorously after anyone moved. Half the clients who would have been there pre-virus. Young salon owner stressed and anxious she'll be closed again soon (we are currently tier 3).
Woman came and pulled her chair close to mine, and proceeded to tell me her daughter just arrived from London. When I commented I thought no one was to travel from tier 4 she said as she lives alone, it was alright. I got my book out and turned my chair away to create more distance.
In contrast good friends daughter and 8 month old baby arrived from London the day before tier 4. Her husband had planned to arrive on Christmas Eve. They won't breach the rules, so he is going to be alone for Christmas and miss his baby's first Christmas.
If only everyone would accept the guidance applies to all of us.

Callistemon Wed 23-Dec-20 10:34:53

Iam64 my friend said she'd been for her hair appointment last week, that you have to wait outside if you arrive early and that they were allowing plenty of time between clients for everything to be thoroughly sanitised. She felt far safer than at a recent hospital visit.
The hairdresser is now shut down as all of Wales is level 4 despite there being few cases in this area.
