Vicks on soles of feet

Hi, I'm sorry if this question has been asked previously but can anyone tell me why it's beneficial to put Vicks on the sole of your feet at night when you heave a cold? Does it work? After spending 8 days in hospital I came home and a day later I went down with a cold, I know my resistance is lowered than usual but I'm struggling to get rid of it. Many thanks in advance.

The smell certainly doesn't last very long; I just bought a new jar because I thought the one which was opened had lost its potency, but it is no better.

I wouldn't use it on 'piles'!
I heard that Vaseline is good for stopping blisters on the feet getting worse.

I know people in Australia who use Vick(s) to ward off mosquitoes- a miracle cure indeed
Really Marmight?
I'd better take a jar with me, the mozzies love me.

Vicks on your feet is fantastic for plantar fasciitis. I had it for a couple of years on and off and then read about Vicks.
amt101 I just bought some gel which is supposed to be good for painful joints etc; it contains ibuprofen but also menthol which, of course, is in Vick.

Yes 'really'. Whether it works or not is debatable but everything's worth a try!

I'm glad I'm not the only one to have noticed a change. It must be that additional 's'. I liberally smeared it all over my nose and throat last night but had to re-apply it in the early hours when the effect wore off. It's not as mentholy and I think the smell is slightly different.

Jalima. The best anti-mozzie is Marmite! Not Australian Marmite which is different, or Veggemite, but our Marmite - I don't know if perhaps you can take it in if it's in a sealed jar? I love it and ate it daily at least a week before we went Downunder as I'd read it worked. And it did! I hardly had a bite whilst DH who hates the stuff suffered. I had Our Mate on toast for breakfast while there, which I think is the same as Marmite.

I have a cold now. Shall I blame the Vicks? I don't know anyone with one and feel it must be Murphy's Law. I was awake at 2:30 am too. Oh well.

I agree that the Vicks scent of menthol is less than the old stuff, but it still works well.
Ana oooh! Your poor ex! Ouch.....that's gotta hurt.grin
