Bring your own picnic.

I have just read that the general public, who have been invited to the royal wedding are being asked to bring a picnic. I thought this wedding was to include all walks of life. They were informed that there will not be anywhere to purchase any refreshments. But the 600 toffs who are attending will have a full menu provided including wine etc.
This is proving that even though Harry and Meghan say it's a wedding for everyone it's still them and us.

It would be a bit difficult to provide a picnic for everyone though, don't you think Nanawind? It's difficult enough to cater for a wedding when you know the exact number of guests who will be turning up on the day! How on earth could picnics be prepared for potentially thousands of people who may, or may not, pitch up? And how would special dietary requirements be catered for? For those who want to go and watch the wedding, a picnic brought by the individual, would seem to be the only solution in making sure that everyone got what they wanted/needed to eat.

I don’t see a problem with this, if you are on the wedding guest list you will be fed and watered, if not you will be an observer in London, and as such would eat out or take a picnic to have in the Park there.
You can’t expect them to put food on for thousands of tourists and gawpers?

Uhh (toffs)did you mean invited guests, haven’t heard that old fashioned word in a while.
If People wish to go along and watch , what’s wrong with taking their own sarnies?

Nanawind Thu 03-May-18 22:54:14

I meant for the charity workers etc, who have been specially invited which is what the wedding has been promoted as being for everyone.

Bridgeit Thu 03-May-18 22:56:16

Ahh I thought your OP said the general public .

Menopaws Thu 03-May-18 22:56:29

Massive food issues if they provide for onlookers. Hot day, diet issues etc etc etc, open door for complaints, no way could or should they do that

Menopaws Thu 03-May-18 22:58:37

Ok but maybe charity workers could get a voucher to obtain food and drink rather than an actual picnic?

Chewbacca Thu 03-May-18 22:59:15

It did Bridgeit!

gillybob Thu 03-May-18 23:02:00

Wel, as far as I’m concerned they can stuff their “royal wedding” where the sun don’t shine. I for one won’t be celebrating it in any shape or form .

gillybob Thu 03-May-18 23:02:58

Even well with a doubt ll grin

Bridgeit Thu 03-May-18 23:04:55

Wonder if they will have rain hat & umberella vendors at the ready.

Nanawind Thu 03-May-18 23:07:26

Sorry I worded the post wrong in saying the general public. It's the charity workers who have been invited they have been asked to bring there own picnic.
I believe it's 600 people.

gillybob Thu 03-May-18 23:08:25

Yes probably Bridgeit official ones of course with all
proceeds going into the royal coffers. wink

gillybob Thu 03-May-18 23:09:44

Who I their right kind would want to be part of this freak show?

Bridgeit Thu 03-May-18 23:14:58

Not sure what I think of that Nanawind,it is probably the reasons Menopaws has mentioned.

Bridgeit Thu 03-May-18 23:17:41

Well I wouldn’t want to be there but I can’t view it as a freak show ,they can’t help being who they are any more than you or I. They will be criticised what ever they do.

ginny Fri 04-May-18 06:28:45

I think it would surely not be difficult to provide maybe a small box for each of them. Maybe a sandwich, something savoury, something sweet and a drink. In the scheme of things it would be a drop in the ocean.

BlueBelle Fri 04-May-18 06:49:31

Oh gosh what’s the fuss if you want to watch take your own snacks if you want to be a CHARITY ( which surely is about giving) worker take you own snack why does everyone expect so much, of course they can’t feed the five thousand
When I do a days work in a charity shop I don’t expect a dinner thrown in
What a hooha over nothing just another stick to beat the youngsters over poor sods, pity they didn’t go off to a beach in Barbados, bet they wish they could,m but that would be wrong too wouldn’t it.

Grandma70s Fri 04-May-18 06:59:00

Oh dear, why so much bitterness from gillybob, and to a lesser extent from the OP?

If you use the word ‘toffs’ I presume you also talk about ‘plebs’. I thought these silly divisive terns had died ou years ago.

Grandma70s Fri 04-May-18 07:00:52

Sorry, ‘terms’ and ‘out’. Didn’t check, can’t edit.

Willow500 Fri 04-May-18 07:00:58

I don't see this as a problem either - it would be far to difficult to feed them all and much more fun to be preparing your picnic to take. I personally wouldn't want to go in all those crowds but will definitely be watching it - I assume it's being televised. I don't actually know when it is though grin

OldMeg Fri 04-May-18 07:46:13

Grandma70s don’t be too harsh on gillybob she’s had a hard life.

annsixty Fri 04-May-18 08:00:43

I wouldn't have been invited as I don't do any "good works" but if I had, I certainly wouldn't have gone.
All that expense of travelling, hotel for the night etc , just to get of a glimpse of a bride and groom in whom I have no interest whatsoever, drive by on their way to two sumptuous meals in thousands of £'s worth of clobber.
No Thank you, it is like throwing coppers to children in the third world.

gillybob Fri 04-May-18 08:12:39

Nothing to do with having a “hard life’s” or not OldMeg and for the record I haven’t *Grandma70s” . I’m not bitter I just don’t like the royals and their absolute hypocrisy. Their wedding means not one jot to me . I have never used the word “toffs” either .
