Having heard that Ukraine has elected a comedian as president I wondered who I'd vote for if we had to elect one.
Josh Widdecombe would cheer us all up. David Mitchell might be too intellectual and cynical. James Acaster too off the wall.
Possibly Rob Brydon? I'm not sure.
Not interested in responses commenting on current politics please.
Who would you suggest?

Tim Vine. He was so funny on Countdown last week.

Maggiemaybe Mon 22-Apr-19 10:12:14

Oh, John Bishop. A serious contender - he’s such a good bloke. smile

Jane10 Mon 22-Apr-19 10:22:46

Oh yes- Romesh Ranganathan and his Mum! We'd be fine. Everything would get done and we'd have a laugh.
I absolutely cannot fathom how anyone could find 'Mrs Brown' remotely funny.
All down to personal preference of course. Humour is so subjective.

Billy Connelly he'd have us all out in all weathers remember his "theres no bad weather just the wrong clothes" thats'd solve obesity crisi etc and he'd tell it how it is .I say this despite Billy being a unionist ...at least as a comedian he'd be funny unlike the current comedians in power.

PS I used to go to the same Glasgow parties as he did .

paddyann Mon 22-Apr-19 10:29:15

or for the younger generation Kevin Bridges ,he's down with the kids...lol

Mycatisahacker Mon 22-Apr-19 10:29:45

Peter Kay for me.

Grammaretto Mon 22-Apr-19 10:45:07

Billy Connolly plus his psychiatrist wife Pamela. In fact they could be the new royal family after independence, paddie although does he live in Britain? He may be another tax exile like Sean Connery.

Nico97 Mon 22-Apr-19 10:59:00

Ricky Gervais

Jane10 Mon 22-Apr-19 10:59:27

He is Grammaretto. Pamela is a psychologist.

Greyduster Mon 22-Apr-19 11:01:50

Anybody but please God, not Stephen Fry! He is so far up his own backside, he’s coming out of his ear!

Nico97 Mon 22-Apr-19 11:08:42

[Grin] Greyduster A rude thought popped into my head at your phraseology there, but I will leave it firmly in my head shock

Mycatisahacker Mon 22-Apr-19 11:09:25

Isn’t Billy quite poorly at the moment? I like Ricky too.

Also what about a coalition of the pair who wrote Gavin and Stacey?? James corden and Ruth Jones??

I think Nessa and Smithy would do a cracking job. grin

Definitely Al Murray for me. He did in fact stand in the 2015 elections and his party was called Free United Kingdom party (FUKP). The manifesto was written on the back of a cigarette packet. Heard him on the radio yesterday and he's actually Oxford educated and is quite intelligent. (Not that the two necessarily go together!) ?

grannyactivist Mon 22-Apr-19 11:22:18

John Bishop - he's witty and compassionate.

Jane10 Mon 22-Apr-19 11:25:00

Al Murray? Good suggestion. He's funny and clever.

Sara65 Mon 22-Apr-19 11:37:37

Well Cavewoman, in a very lighthearted way, I have to say, really don’t get Mrs Brown! Hey, it’s probably just me, not wishing to offend any Mrs Brown fans!!!

KatyK Mon 22-Apr-19 11:57:53

I agree re Stephen Fry. I can't stand him. Full of his own importance (in my opinion).

Wobbles Mon 22-Apr-19 12:13:56

Al Murray would get my vote.
Or Richard Osman

sodapop Mon 22-Apr-19 12:27:51

I agree Greyduster & KatyK I used to like Stephen Fry but now he is so full of himself he is not so amusing.. Having said that I haven't seen much of him on TV lately.
John Bishop is an interesting choice.

Maggiemaybe Mon 22-Apr-19 12:42:07

Yes to Richard Osman!

Buffybee Mon 22-Apr-19 13:43:55

Definitely Billy Connolly, hilarious and straight talking!

AyjayF Mon 22-Apr-19 14:03:50

Eddie Izzard

GabriellaG54 Mon 22-Apr-19 16:38:28

Kevin Bridges.
Fry is far too smug.
Bishop lays the accent on far too much.
Toksvig and the others...nothing to recommend them.
As for that dork on Pointless...Richard Osman...not in 1m years.
I'm agitating for that programme to be axed too.

Cherrytree59 Mon 22-Apr-19 17:09:05

Cherrytree59 Mon 22-Apr-19 17:10:23
