Someone asked is this 'what we are reduced too' referring to another person's post. I guess we are running out of things to discuss as none of us are going anywhere, all our social activities are no longer available so can't discuss the pros and cons of those, and we are relying on the news, family issues and the more mundane areas of life to put up posts. What do you think?? this is not a critisim just an observation. smile

Please posters, "get a grip", it is a discussion about favourite HOT drinks.
Though some of those you mention sound pretty hot, hot, hot!

JenniferEccles Tue 22-Dec-20 10:30:03

Well you only have to pop over to the Politics thread to see that day after day something has happened to get one or two posters riled enough to start yet another thread on the same theme!

Boring? Most definitely !

Actually even a fairly trivial question, for instance if someone were to ask how far people walked to school, that could turn into an interesting read with posters reminiscing.

Ann, I drank gin anmd orange too - weren't we sophisticated. Also Babycham but only from the proper glass!
I also drank sherry!! shock

Galaxy Tue 22-Dec-20 10:32:46

I cant drink cider, I got drunk on it as a teenager and ever since the smell of it makes me feel ill.

Ellianne Tue 22-Dec-20 10:33:09

I didn't walk to school. I used to catch the (London) bus. The trick was to go upstairs if the conductor were downstairs, and vice versa. Then to leap off without paying and spend the fare in the sweet shop!

Oh sorry, Ellianne, I was side-tracked there. I’m partial to a hot Bovril, particularly accompanied by a Jacobs cream cracker snapped in half so you can dunk it.

Has anyone else got the Advert “Just Talking Can Help”
at the top of the GN Forum? Big Brother is definitely watching us and noting what we talk about ? ? ?

annsixty Tue 22-Dec-20 10:35:48

Kitty did you have the glasses with a tiny hole near the stem from which the bubbles rose?
I still have a couple in the loft somewhere.
I might find them and put them on e-bay?

Maggiemaybe Tue 22-Dec-20 10:38:46

I’ve got a plastic Babycham somewhere. He used to stand behind the bar in the pub I lived in. Today’s task will be hunting him down.

trueblue22 Tue 22-Dec-20 10:40:25

annsixty A double G&T, my favourite evening drink. Although as I'm in Tier 4 and the evenings long, the evening tipple is being brought forward to 5pm! Don't worry, I don't have any more after that double. I think it's habit rather than a craving.

I'm keeping well away from national issues and politics atm and concentrating on my art. Thankfully, I enrolled on a F/T Advanced Fine Art course this year, so that's keeping me busy and gets my mind in a good creative place.smilewinetchsmile

My favourite hot drinks, camomile, ginger or peppermint tea. Occasionally a mocha but mostly black coffee. First alcoholic drink in my teens was a babycham, now drink gin and tonic once a day, juniper berries are good for the skin! Flew to school when I was little. Lived in Fiji, school in Australia.

LauraNorder Tue 22-Dec-20 10:53:12

trueblue22 hope you’ll post a pic of your art.

dragonfly46 Tue 22-Dec-20 10:59:18

My first tipple was cider when I was at uni. It was all I could afford. Wine wasn't heard of in those days.

kircubbin2000 Tue 22-Dec-20 11:03:05

I didn't drink and was brought up in a strict household. This led to me marrying a heavy drinker as I found it exciting seeing this lively world of pubs and fun.
Although the marriage was a disaster it gave me my lovely family and grandchildren.

I used to enjoy hot Vimto as a child, the squash not the horrid new-fangled fizzy stuff.

trisher Tue 22-Dec-20 11:12:10

I tried the gin and orange too, didn't like it. Then there was larger and lime (Yuk). At college I was introduced to Newcastle Broon. My family liked a drink, I was given Brandy and Babycham at a party my mum and dad took me to. My gran carried a bottle of brandy in her handbag "For mediceenal purposes" .
Galaxy have I missed another deleted thread? I'm going to complain. It's not fair I keep missing these thing!!!

Galaxy Tue 22-Dec-20 11:13:52

Yes sorry trisher. Were you doing things in real life, that will teach it smile

Galaxy Tue 22-Dec-20 11:14:23

Teach you not teach it confused

Chewbacca Tue 22-Dec-20 11:26:27

When I was 17, I got very drunk on Bacardi and coke; so drunk that I was really, really ill. My parents were justifiably furious. I've never touched another drop of alcohol since. Just the smell of it makes me heave. And that's been a pain in the neck throughout my adult life because I've been accused of being "miserable", a party pooper and I've even had my soft drinks spiked by idiots that thought I wouldn't notice.

annodomini Tue 22-Dec-20 11:46:02

When I was 17, on new year's eve when our dog had died, my uncle got me drunk on Babycham. That was the only time I'd ever tasted it and that was enough. Gin and whatever took my fancy, thereafter.

trisher Tue 22-Dec-20 11:54:46

Bacardi and coke- Cuba Libre! Memories of Spanish holidays!

MiniMoon Tue 22-Dec-20 12:19:22

I was a later comer to alcohol. I was brought up in a Methodist household. My Mother enjoyed a small sherry at Christmas in later life, but my Dad never touched a drop although his favourite dessert was a real sherry trifle confused.
My drink of choice these days is a gin and tonic.
I've been busy baking this morning, so this is my first look at gransnet. I didn't see the deleted thread either, but if it was politics then I wouldn't have looked at it. I steer clear of those.

cornishpatsy Tue 22-Dec-20 12:47:01

I think more people are conversing via private messaging or Whatsapp groups.

lovebeigecardigans1955 Tue 22-Dec-20 12:53:31

I hope we never run out of things to talk about. Our lives may be mundane at the moment but we don't have to be.

kircubbin2000 Tue 22-Dec-20 12:59:24

Chewbacca, same here. When I was about 19 I won a bottle of vodka on holiday. After drinking the whole bottle I was luckily wise enough to crawl into my room and lock the door before collapsing on the floor. The Spanish waiter was disappointed!
