Has anyone an uneasy feeling that it's happening deflect the uncomfortable questions boris and co are facing?

MissAdventure Sat 30-May-20 10:20:51

Meanwhile, public transport had taken things to a new level yesterday.

Every single seat had tape over it, yesterday, with a firm reminder of the distancing rules on it.

Everyone who got on wandered up and down cranking their necks to find one without tape. grin

lemongrove No !

It’s such a difficult balancing act for the Government but now is the time to concentrate on the economy or we will live with the consequences of a bad recession for years.

Hetty58. If your post is in reference to the post I wrote, then I will say I am neither ignorant off mental health or unaware on its effect on people, especially those suffering from domestic abuse. The ignorance lies with people who cannot post a reply without resorting to insults. My statement stands.

FoghornLeghorn Sat 30-May-20 16:08:00

FoghornLeghorn, yes, of course lockdown has to be lifted. We are not 'all in the same boat' however. A lot of us are retired and have the luxury of the choice to continue our isolation.

Yes, and I’m one of them so at higher risk because of my age. It doesn’t change my opinion and I won’t be self-isolating for any longer than I have to. I will take sensible precautions but refuse to live the rest of my life like a hermit.

growstuff Sat 30-May-20 16:40:50

More people than otherwise won't be living with the consequences of a bad recession because they'll be dead.

Barmeyoldbat Sat 30-May-20 17:00:34

Well said grow stuff. The lockdown has be eased far to quickly, it has taken how long in lockdown, 10 weeks or so to get the famous R rate just below 1 so we are returning to near back to normal with no room for mistakes. The R rate should be 0.5 or below before its eased, but the good old Boris doesn't think so, he knows best, I am afraid it won't end well and its scary to think that our ives in the hands of such an idiot.. Money is no good to you if you are dead.

Pantglas2 Sat 30-May-20 17:40:41

Do you also believe Foster, Drayford and Sturgeon to be idiots for easing lockdown in NI, Wales and Scotland when the R rate in those countries is nowhere near .5, Barmeybat?

Sussexborn Sat 30-May-20 18:32:32

Pantlas2: Do you also believe Foster, Drayford and Sturgeon to be idiots for easing lockdown in NI, Wales and Scotland when the R rate in those countries is nowhere near .5:

Rule No 1: Only Boris Johnson and Cummings are to be criticised on GN.

Barmeyoldbat Sat 30-May-20 18:36:31

No Pantglas2 but they are easing it much more cautiously, Wales has said schools will go back when the time is right and still has a pretty tight restriction on movement, this is the way England should have gone. But of course Boris is hoping to deflect Cummings lies.

Pantglas2 Sat 30-May-20 18:37:07

That’s what I was trying to ascertain Sussex, whether the poster was being objective or partisan!

The trouble with using an argument in proving a partisan point is that someone neutral will come along and use the same argument against you! Such fun!

Pantglas2 Sat 30-May-20 18:43:09

No, our restrictions in Wales are actually quite lax in some respects - no face masks recommended, meeting any number of folks from another household etc.

Not sure about Scottish and Irish details but they’re nowhere near .5 either and they’re lifting things willy-nilly, just like the Tories! A week or so here or there isn’t a great reason to call one an idiot and t’others saints!

Whitewavemark2 Sat 30-May-20 19:17:52

This is why the scientists think we are easing too soon. I agree

The scientists say No; Boris says Yes. So it will happen.

Subject closed - we are in a dictatorship.

I am incandescent with rage about the corruption at the highest level. I value integrity - but it has flown the nest.

EllanVannin Sat 30-May-20 19:35:01

So how many thousand over this weekend will be interrogated for overstepping their journey ? Selfish lot of individuals !!

Whitewavemark2 Sat 30-May-20 19:49:47

ev Johnson must love you. His intention is to blame the public when the virus begins to spread again. You are doing his job for him.

But he is wrong.

Good leadership is what is needed..
Non-corrupt leadership is what is needed...
Strong leadership is what is needed..
Intelligent leadership is what is needed.

PGAgirl Sat 30-May-20 20:06:44

The Government realises that you can only keep the healthy majority of the country on Lockdown for so long, that is why they did not want to start it too early.. Doing it for the NHS was a brilliant move but people are getting restless. If you do not lift it people will take it into their own hands to do what they want, Lifting Lockdown with rules is timely. Unfortunately I shall still be self isolating but I do get to see my grandchildren, in the garden.

growstuff Sat 30-May-20 20:15:43

Why is so much of the discussion centred on restrictions when the real issue should be protections? hmm

Jellybeetles Sat 30-May-20 23:02:09

PGAgirl Agree with all you say.

Franbern Sun 31-May-20 09:22:25

Easing it??? Has become a rush and now a storm of getting rid of lockdown. ANother week and we will say Lockdown? What Lockdown???

GrannyLaine Sun 31-May-20 09:53:32

PGAgirl, exactly so.
As individuals, we each have a responsibility for deciding what is appropriate for keeping ourselves and others safe. Just because we can doesn't mean we must.

Jellybeetles Sun 31-May-20 11:32:52

A lot of the masks on sale or homemade ones are virtually useless. I think for many of us it is still easing and not getting rid of the lockdown. My company still won’t allow everyone back as they cannot distance to work. People are in very small groups doing sport. There are still screens in the shops and markers where you queue apart. Always there will be those who ignore but they ignored from the start. It really must depend where you live. Our sit-down restaurants have opened but only offer collection or delivery. Brasserie Blanc talked of this and yum, what a change from lots of the other, often greasy stodge that can be available.

Gma29 Sun 31-May-20 12:04:09

Whitewavemark2 I agree that in some aspects Government has been slow to act, but certainly some members of the public are responsible for the spread of further infections.

Just locally I have seen a family that has had a houseful of guests to stay over both bank holidays, and several others have clearly had visitors throughout lockdown, judging by all the extra cars.

When shopping, some people are not attempting any social distancing, some don’t even use the sanitiser.

EllenVannin and PGAgirl are right. If everyone followed the rules it would be a big help.

Iam64 Mon 01-Jun-20 07:38:47

I don't see anywhere that Whitewave is suggested we shouldn't all follow the guidance.

Gma29 Mon 01-Jun-20 10:57:13

I didn’t say she had. I was saying that with so many stories on various threads about neighbours/general public not following guidelines, there are sections of the public who may well be to blame for the continued spread of the virus.
