NHS app says I must isolate for 8 days!

This was a bit of a shock this morning when I got back from sainsbury's. Am presuming I must have had the contact on Sunday with an unknown person. I did have lunch out that day. Anyone else had the app alert? Was it followed by phone call from test (track?) and trace?

maddyone Sat 07-Nov-20 19:32:05

I can’t download the app on my phone, it’s an iPhone 5s, so no I haven’t had a notification. I’ve eaten out a few times over the summer, always had to leave my details but haven’t ever been called about isolating, so presumably there were no cases those days in those restaurants.

Wouldnt put a serco app on my phone so no
Like Maddy I ve eaten out most weeks over the months and given my phone number and the hairdressers etc but no never been alerted

BlueBelle Sat 07-Nov-20 20:18:01

By the way it’s not a NHS app it’s a SERCO app

Marydoll Sat 07-Nov-20 20:53:52

Could someone please enlighten me, just out of interest, where the evidence is that SERCO developed the app. As I have the Scottish NHS app on my phone it doesn't affect me personally.

This quote is from Reuters, the news agency.
Some Facebook users have been falsely claiming that outsourcer Serco has developed the NHS Test and Trace app.
The NHS website says the app’s development team has staff from Accenture, Alan Turing Institute, NHS Digital, NHSx, Oxford University, VMware Pivotal Lab and Zuhlke Engineering. It also says that the National Cyber Security Centre had an advisory role in developing the app.

However, SERCO is not listed, so why is this rumour circulating?
I have no opinion on it, just curious. I'm happy to have the app on my phone, if it helps save lives. I believe it's up to each individual what they choose to do.

I do feel it is unacceptable, that some phones are not able to support the app.

Marydoll I tried to download the app as I fully expected it be compatible, but I found out that I needed a newer model iPhone for it to work. I’m not changing my phone because it’s not compatible, I’ll just continue to give my name and phone number if I go out to eat when lockdown ends.

Marydoll Sat 07-Nov-20 22:34:16

Maddyone, no-one should be in the position of not having a compatible phone. The app should have been accessible to everyone who wished to use it.
I haven't at any point suggested that anyone should buy a new phone.

ElaineI Sat 07-Nov-20 22:56:04

Not everyone has a mobile phone of any kind!

Marydoll Sat 07-Nov-20 23:19:22

I asked a question about SERCO and the app, that was it.
I wondered where the evidence was that SERCO developed it, no other agenda.

Whether people own a phone or not or whether they download the app or not, is a matter of personal choice.
However, if they wish to use the app, it should, if possible, have been compatible with all phones.

Facebook is excellent for passing on false information, Marydoll

I think we can safely say that Serco didn't develop it.

I have the app. Why wouldn’t I? I will do anything to help get this virus under control.

Marydoll Sat 07-Nov-20 23:27:49

Its false information like that, which costs lives.
Thanks Oopsminty for taking the time so answer my query.

Oopsminty Sat 07-Nov-20 23:27:52

This is part of the problem

People moan about our track and trace facility. It's true, it didn't get off to the greatest start

But in the end, if the people contacted don't isolate then what hope for it to be successful? We could have the greatest world beating track and trace but without the compliance of the population it's doomed to fail.

I know people who have removed the App. They don't want to isolate. It's appalling but that's what we're up against.

B9exchange Sat 07-Nov-20 23:31:50

Serco manage (or mismanage) Track and Trace, not the app. There is no legal requirement to isolate if contacted through the app, only if contacted by Track and Trace, who are missing over 40% of those who have come in contact with Covid.

Marydoll Sat 07-Nov-20 23:39:15

B9exchange thank you too for the clarification.
It seems to be managed differently from the Scottish, Test and Protect system.

maddyone Sat 07-Nov-20 23:52:23

Marydoll apologies if you thought I was suggesting that you thought I should buy a new phone, I didn’t think that at all. I was indirectly addressing the government in saying I’m not going to buy a new phone. I agree with you, the app should have been made compatible for all phones.

maddyone Sat 07-Nov-20 23:56:52

Oopsminty you’re correct in that many people are refusing to isolate. There’s another thread going this weekend about a positive tested carer who is refusing to isolate, and I’ve read that this is happening a lot. As you say, it doesn’t matter how good track and trace is if people refuse to cooperate.

Marydoll Sun 08-Nov-20 00:04:06

Maddyone, I'm sorry for misunderstanding you. ?

I'm annoyed because in a way the app is discriminatory and exclusive. It won't eradicate the virus, but anything which may help, gets my vote.

That also why I get annoyed at rumours, which are spread on social media and then people believing those rumours, without checking.

Actually, I think I'm permanently annoyed, so best to retreat, good night all! ?

i don't really understand the point the OP is making.

Calendargirl Sun 08-Nov-20 07:23:56

welbeck

i don't really understand the point the OP is making.

I think she is asking, does she have to act on the message received, or should she be receiving a call from track and trace?

NotSpaghetti Sun 08-Nov-20 08:13:18

I took the OP as simply a comment. I don't know anyone who has even had the message let alone a call. I think chelseababy was mainly just "chatting". Have any Gransnetters been contacted and if so, how did it work?

Lucca Sun 08-Nov-20 08:43:32

What happens if someone doesn’t have the app,but tests positive ? Is it up to them to call their contacts ?

chelseababy Sun 08-Nov-20 08:54:28

Yes I was just wondering if anyone had a call. Also if anyone else had had a notification on their phone as I dont know anyone in "real life" who has.

alisonsmith4 Sun 08-Nov-20 09:40:24

I have had to isolate for 11 days after being alerted by the app. Can’t recall being close to anyone at all and certainly not for 15 mins which is supposed to trigger the alert. Have had no phone calls or follow up - difficult to see how this could happen as the data is all anonymous. I have stuck to it - finish tomorrow. Yay!

Iam64 Sun 08-Nov-20 09:46:12

I've just checked my iPhone 5. I downloaded the app that says it's the NHS app a few weeks ago. When I looked, I 'd somehow turned the tracking bit off. It's on again now.
