Tell us how you are getting on

Caro1954 Mon 06-Nov-17 14:38:02

Thankyou for starting this thread Menopaws. And thankyou for recommending Jane10. Supper at six o'clock, then nothing till ten/eleven o'clock tomorrow - wish me luck! I'm really hoping we can all support each other.

There are no rules other than eating within the 8 hours that are most convenient for you. Drink teas and coffee or water or whatever hydrates you during the 16 hour fast. I'm sure if you want or need to lose weight fast you'd benefit from keeping an eye in high calorie things. To emphasise again I ate whatever I fancied in my 8 hours and miraculously seem to have shed flab. I had a full English breakfast yesterday and 2 thick slices of fruit cake mid afternoon then 4 sausages, mash and sprouts for supper. Tea, coffee and wine. Also 2 tangerines and more chocolate Brazil nuts. Not exactly starving myself am I?

whitewave Mon 06-Nov-17 15:15:11

Blimey!! That suits me grin

BBbevan Mon 06-Nov-17 16:18:37

Like I said Carol1954 you are asleep for most of that. Good luck

Jane10 Mon 06-Nov-17 17:55:37

I should say that I don't eat like that every day! Sourdough toast and smoked salmon pate for lunch today with sliced peppers. Fish and chips for supper tonight. Fruit cake and choc biscuits along with tangerines and glass of leftover wine over the 8 hours.

Day one done. I've chosen 12- 8pm. Although, because of cercumstance, today it was 2pm - 8pm. I want it to work.

Just finished Day 2. I'm doing 10 to 6. As I've just moved, the house is in chaos and I haven't been shopping yet, I'm eating from the store cupboard which is a bit boring but will get out tomorrow and jolly things up a bit. Porridge & apple for brekkie, baked beans on marmite toast for lunch then baked pot with cheese for supper. Most exciting was the large glug of The Famous Grouse at 6 this evening. I'm determined to make this work- Oz is beckoning and I need a beach body grin. Good luck everyone

Felt surprisingly alert and healthy today. Boiled egg at 9.45 , a couple of brioche buns filled with chicken and lettuce for lunch then fish pie and two tiny profiteroles for dinner at 17.30.
I'm going to bite the bullet tomorrow and get on the scales. Scary!

Am going for 10 till 6 today, so just having coffee now. Does make me realise how I usually eat all day long. And interestingly, DH who is slender and eats everything, often eats breakfast late because he's "busy".

I do 15:9 - have done so for the last year. Same idea but an hour less fasting. I eat about 10.00am and nothing after 7.00pm. However if we are asked out and meals are later then I just fast until midday next day.

Riverwalk Tue 07-Nov-17 07:44:43

Lots of dieting going on grin

I've just lost 11 pounds in four weeks, not fasting although it feels like it at times, on a low-carb & 1200 calories diet.

I do like the concept of fasting diets and can see their merit but I'm up very early and eat breakfast by 7 or earlier so I'd have to have my last meal by mid-afternoon which would make for a long evening!

I'll watch this thread with interest.

Anya Tue 07-Nov-17 07:53:55

Or eat breakfast later.

Riverwalk Tue 07-Nov-17 08:01:15

I can't Anya - I try to put it off for an hour or so but do like an early big breakfast!

Anya Tue 07-Nov-17 08:11:38

If you don’t need to lose weight River that’s not a problem ??.

Just been reading a report on 16:8 which showed some health benefits apart from weight loss. Reduction in IGF-1 was very interesting as this may help with insulin resistance and therefore help the fight against type 2 diabetes.

whitewave Tue 07-Nov-17 08:20:05

Right day 2 - yesterday was easy-peasy. Waiting for breakfast at 9am

Scrambled eggs on half a slice of toast
Pumpkin and sweet pepper soup and slice bread
Mary Berry’s sausage supper -2 sausages with root vegetables
Banana and date rice pudding made with semi skimmed milk

No weight loss yet

Jane10 Tue 07-Nov-17 08:35:32

My weight loss wasn't noticeable for a couple of weeks. My original post was to express my surprise at finding my hip bones! Persevere. Just get used to it and it becomes just normal.

Anya Tue 07-Nov-17 08:37:53

Just get used to it and it becomes just normal

Exactly Jane

I have been cutting down for about a month, trying not to eat in the evenings part of that. Cut down portion sizes, reduced the potatoes and bread etc. Cake, chocolate mostly gone and wine cut out totally. I have stopped eating breakfast (only had cereals usually) and find that I don't feel hungry because on the couple of occasions I have eaten something early I start to feel like snacking by about 10am. If I don't have breakkie I happily go until midday and lunch.
I certainly notice the difference with my clothes.
I know someone who lost a lot of weight by sticking to eating in certain hours of the day and cutting down the carbs/fats.

oldgoat Tue 07-Nov-17 08:58:27

Day 2 for me. Been on the scales and I need to lose 11 pounds to get back to my target weight. I won't eat until midday today because it's WI tonight and there will be cake.

Anya Tue 07-Nov-17 09:51:32

More than anything else it’s probsbly the disciplining yourself not to eat after 7.00pm or whenever your cut-off point is.

I noticed upthread that someone had tried to joke about something sweet ‘calling to her?’ and succumbing to temptation and washing it down with a glass of wine, or something like that. That’s exactly what is diet is about - not giving into mouth hunger. It can’t be tummy hunger as your last meal is still in your stomach. So while it was meant to be taken in a jokey way, it actually shows what the point of this regime is all about.

Anya Tue 07-Nov-17 09:52:20

Excuse bad grammar.

Jalima1108 Tue 07-Nov-17 11:01:03

We're going out to lunch today - had breakfast as late as I could which was 9 am.
However, lunch will not be until about 1.30 and I won't feel like anything at 5 pm but may start feeling hungry at 8.30 or 9 pm hmm
And I can't go without breakfast.

J52 Tue 07-Nov-17 11:18:56

I was thinking about a comment made up thread, that when younger the poster skipped breakfast and weighed less. I also think that is true. I didn’t eat breakfast for 4 years at Uni. And only started when I got married. That’s when the weight crept up! hmm
As I said earlier, I don’t think every diet suits everyone. I don’t find fasting ones particularly hard, but if you are someone used to regular meals or has a lifestyle that demands them, then it’s not for you.
I would find prescriptive food regimes difficult to follow.

Menopaws Tue 07-Nov-17 18:05:52

Going well and don't feel nearly as hungry at lunchtime if I miss breakfast so that's good, I make a smoothie and take to work so I can neck it at 11 then lunch at 1ish then stuff after work and by 7 I'm done. Today I couldn't stop until 1 so I can actually go later tonight but learning how it feels and it's nice not having to think too hard about it. I don't eat badly anyway so feels comfortable, don't feel guilty Jane, think it's a great idea

Lazigirl Tue 07-Nov-17 18:14:56

What's in the smoothie Menopaws?
