Soupmakers out?

Well mine is. I've make a few soups recently and have been playing around with texture. The latest one tasted great. I set it on 'chunky' as it was full of carrots, turnips, leeks and some lentils but gave it a whiz with the blender once it was ready. Resultant texture was just right. Brothish but without being so chunky it couldn't be consumed from a mug.
Any suggestions for other soups?

There's a nip in the air so it's definitely time for soup - or is it vegetable stew? The mix I make in the slow cooker could be either.

In Denmark, apparently, soup is popular for dinner, so that's good enough for me. Herb dumplings and brown sauce to go with it should do.

To answer the question:

frozen chopped onions (lazy, I know)
carrots
courgettes
mushrooms
tomatoes
marigold vegan bouillon powder
half cup water
tin of green lentils (added when nearly done)

Just this week bought a Lakeland soup maker so am a beginner. So far a successful veg and ham and a rather intense cabbage and veg. Note to self .. don't use so much cabbage .. it was very strong!

I'm making soup for lunch today. I don't own a soup maker, are they a good investment? I was thinking of buying This, to go with my Ninja Foodi, but it is rather expensive.

BTW the soup I'm going to make is a salmon chowder.

I like peanut butter in a ‘whizzed’ soup, maybe with sweet potato or butternut squash ( which I also but ready prepared) I thought about a soup maker, but have just bought a mini vegetable chopper, which is very handy.

Leek and potato today.

You can get a MR compact soup maker which makes 2 decent size bowls polnan which is good for singles.

I use my slow cooker for making soups and blitz if needed. I currently have Roasted red peppers and tomato on the go. I just look in veg drawer and get going. I made a lovely chicken soup last week as had leftover chicken. Just throw in what you have and see what happens is my moto. Xx

It's almost magic how you can pop in some veg or whatever, switch on and 21 minutes later lovely hot soup with no additives or preservatives. A good way to add to your 5 a day veg.

I just did courgette and leek. I wing it but basically 2 courgettes, 2 leeks and a bit of celery (literally part of one single stalk rescued from what was left of a head) ). Then added in onion and garlic granules, shakes of celery salt and white pepper. Stock. Cook and puree.

It was a thin soup (suitable for mug drinking) which we prefer to the over thick stand your spoon up in them purees, but adding a potato or less stock would adjust.

I love the Covent Garden soup book and I only have a hand blender. Love the roasted red pepper soup and the Moroccan chickpea. Have just bought sophie grigson SOUP. The best one so far has been Spinach soup and I like watercress soup too. I make soup from scratch every day.

I also use my slow cooker and my favourite is roasted red pepper and tomato. SNAP|

All the soups sound delicious. I have a MR soup maker its been sitting on the kitchen work top unused for over a year now, just not sure where to begin! (I am not very good at using new things) Does anyone have a really good recipe/ideas for green vegetable soup? I know we don't eat enough vegetables and am trying to lose a few pounds as well as uping our healthy vegetable intake. Just about to put in my online food order so will add anything I need to that. Ideas very welcome, thanks!

Yes, my soupmaker is out, and I love it! Either I or DH make soup every week now the cooler days are here. Can't beat a bowl of hot soup with a chunk of crusty bread smile

Spicy parsnip; Beetroot & tomato; Tomato & paprika - I could go on.

harrigran Tue 03-Nov-20 10:39:15

I don't think a soup maker would create enough volume for me, I usually use a large stockpot and make about 3 or 4 litres at a time and share with the family.
Leek and potato is the most frequently made or carrot soup if the vegetables are starting to look tired.

Jane10 Tue 03-Nov-20 10:50:56

LindyB the MR soupmaker is pretty foolproof. Just chuck in the veg or whatever plus stock, top up with water to the max level shown on the inside, choose smooth or chunky, switch on and wait for 21 min smooth or 28mins chunky. Simples

Soup is popular for dinner in this U.K. house too, @Hetty58 - at least in winter. Really thick, lots of different veg, red lentils, pearl barley, maybe a handful of pasta chucked in - usually served with grated cheese on top.
Dh would honestly eat it nearly every night.

olliebeak Tue 03-Nov-20 11:08:16

Pressure Cooker and my trusty 'whizzy stick' ............ just remove a few chunks of veggies before blending! Always works for me wink.

My grandkids adore the Tesco's 'Nana's Magic Soup' recipe from the TV Advert - realfood.tesco.com/recipes/nanas-magic-soup.html

pamdixon Tue 03-Nov-20 11:11:35

my favourite soup at the moment is tomato and carrot (as I've still got loads of tomatoes from the garden). And I chuck in some fresh basil at the very end. I don't have a soup maker...........maybe I should get one?

Happyme Tue 03-Nov-20 11:19:21

No soup maker here, just a big pan. In self isolation and fancying some soup had to make do with what in cupboard and fridge. Red lentils, an onion, chorritzo and some celery seeds.......hey presto, was delicious with self bake french stick from the 'emergency rations' box.

I love this thread, please keep the ideas coming.
