Toilet training at night

My son lives with me along with his four and a half year old daughter. I care for her while he's at work. She is toilet trained during the day but has to wear pull-up pants in bed and most mornings it is soaking wet - she's dry one or two mornings a week.

We restrict her drinking after 6 pm so I can't understand why she's not dry at night. It's a long time since my children were small so I can't remember if I ever had this problem with them.

Has anybody got a magic answer please?

Very common. Can occur in kids as old as 9 or 10. I teach pediatric nursing and tell my students that the most important question to ask is if they've ever been dry. If the answer is "no" it's likely down to bladder immaturity. If the answer is "yes" and this is a recent onset, we start looking for triggers. Stress, bladder infections, and even diabetes can cause bed wetting in children.

DGS2 still has night time pull ups (just 6) as did his older brother until he was almost 7. It is not a problem for anyone. I am sure it will all be sorted when his physical development gets to the right stage.

Our GD is the same. At five she is still in pull ups at night.

I seem to remember my own children going from potty trained during the day to being dry at night just a month or so later. I bought pull ups for bedtime when GD stays with us as she is wearing them at home and she shows no sign of having dry nights yet. She has been invited to a few sleepovers and her Mum is unsure if she should let her go.

My thoughts are that pull ups tend to prolong toilet training in little ones. They weren't around when mine were small so soon after going to bed they got to dislike having wet pyjamas and soggy beds and were dry at night from a young age. I appreciate all children are different and develop at different times but I feel reliance on pull ups doesn't help.
