Scottish Referendum Autumn 2018 - Spring 2019

So will it go ahead?

I know there is another thread on the subject but that thread is a call for Scots to say 'Yes'.

It looks more likely there will be a 2nd Referendum and Nicola Sturgeon appears to be 'declaring' it is 'definately' her intention by stating the period she wants it to take place between Autumn 2018 - Spring 2019.

Is anybody surprised?

Lord knows interesting times.

If there was to be another no vote, I can hazard a guess that the scots would be asked to vote again in yet another referendum, further down the Brexit line.

Ana Mon 13-Mar-17 17:32:32

Agreed, Annie. Wales is not a principality.

rosesarered Mon 13-Mar-17 17:50:46

How would Scotland be independent, kow towing to Brussels all the time. It's doubtful surely that the vote would be for yes, why would they break away from the UK when most of the business they do in Scotland is with the rest of the UK.However, if they are allowed another referendum in the next few years, and do vote yes, I suggest that their new pound note/coin ( because they won't be able to keep the pound as a unit of currency) be called 'a thistle'......of course they may have to take the euro!

daphnedill Mon 13-Mar-17 18:00:48

It's a daft idea, but who can blame them for wanting to "take back control"? They wouldn't be the first country to make a daft decision. grin

Ana Mon 13-Mar-17 18:04:37

They ony want to 'take back control' from Westminster though, not Brussels - that's the difference!

tiggypiro Mon 13-Mar-17 18:17:38

So they will all know exactly what they are voting for and all NS's promises will come true (and that is a pig I saw flying over my house).

daphnedill Mon 13-Mar-17 18:29:06

Of course they won't tiggypro but that doesn't stop people making daft decisions.

Yeah yeah! @ Brussels.grin So what control exactly does Brussels have? Apparently swarms of flying pigs have been reported over many parts of the UK, not just Scotland. wink

Celebrations in the Kremlin?

V Putin's agenda is to support nationalist parties which look able to destabalise the west.

Brexit- tick
Trump- tick
Geert Wilders- ?
Marine lePen- ?
SNP-?

Someone interviewed seemed under the impression that if Scotland leaves the UK before we leave the EU, that Scotland will automatically be able to stay in the EU!! I just hope N.S makes it clear that as an independent country, Scotland will join the que with other countries wanting to join. What about NATO?!! I can't begin to understand why the leader of any country would want to potentially destroy that country.

Anniebach Mon 13-Mar-17 18:40:37

Impossible to seperate history from the present

paddyann Mon 13-Mar-17 20:21:26

the level of ignorance on here is astounding...do you think we haven't done all the sums ,checked all the data and listened to all the arguements ? 50 YEARS ago a wee island called Malta wanted independence ...they have none of our resources and the "advice" they were given was much the same as we get when we menyion the indepdence word. You're too wee ,you wont be able to afford it financially etc etc etc .Well you know what they CELEBRATE independence every year and they are doing just fine.We have far more going for us than Malta including information from several EU leaders that we CAN STAY in the EU ,there IS NO QUEUE .We at the moment pprovide the WM government withover 25% of all food and drink exports ..thats money MADE here and accredited to England as it leaves through English ports .We have a thriving renewable energy industry ,a tech industry thats the largest in Europe we export water and electricity despite being the ONLY part of the UK whose power stations are charged MILLIONS OF POUNDS FOR THE PRIVILEGE unlike the rUK who get PAID to supply it.We DONT WANT TRIDENT ,it pollutes our water and makes US a target...you want it...please take it.This is not about anyone hating the English as no doubt will come up..its that we'd rather have good friends and neighbours accross the border than Masters .The INDEPENDENCE movement in Scotland is CROSS PARTY ,its not just SNP and quite frankly with the attitude of some on here I'd think you would be delighted to be rid of us...only then will you understand that far from YOU supporting US ,we're the ones who prop up your economey .....and thats before we even think about the trillions of oil still being brought up .

Jane10 Mon 13-Mar-17 20:28:32

I would be delighted to get rid of Scottish Nationalists with their grievance based politics and feeble grasp of economics. Unfortunately I live in Scotland and am currently landed with them. Not for much longer I hope!

nina1959 Mon 13-Mar-17 20:30:02

Paddyann

'only then will you understand that far from YOU supporting US ,we're the ones who prop up your economey

Really? That's not what it says here.

nina1959 Mon 13-Mar-17 20:30:55

By all means Paddyann, go forth with great speed if that's the thanks we get.

trisher Mon 13-Mar-17 20:31:24

Go! go! go! paddyann!! When you get independence can we discuss moving the border and reinstating Hadrian's Wall? Then I can join you

Ana Mon 13-Mar-17 20:31:25

...information from several EU leaders that we CAN STAY in...

Hmm - it would be interesting to see evidence of this information, paddyann.

nina1959 Mon 13-Mar-17 20:33:26

Oops, here's another one.

Anniebach Scotland and England are kingdoms. Wales was never a kingdom, but a people, ultimately conquered and assimilated into Great Britain and thereafter ruled or reigned over by a prince: so the home of the Welsh became a principality. The UK is made up of two kingdoms a principality and a province ....

rosesarered Mon 13-Mar-17 20:37:02

trisher that sounds like you want paddyann to go.grin I bet if it happened, there would be more people heading into England from Scotland than the other way round.

Ana Mon 13-Mar-17 20:40:04

paddyann - Google it. Wales is NOT a principality, it is a country. Which is more than can be said for Scotland.

Ana Mon 13-Mar-17 20:42:00

the level of ignorance on here is astounding - certainly is! grin

rosesarered Mon 13-Mar-17 20:50:50

grin
paddyann....be very, very careful, or we will let let anniebach loose on you.

nigglynellie Mon 13-Mar-17 20:52:09

FGS, Scotland,in the name of God just GO, then perhaps the rest of us will be spared your almost relentless whining. It's a pity the rest of the UK aren't allowed to join in this referendum, as the outcome wouldn't be in doubt!!!
Yes we'll move Trident, Plymouth will be delighted, the redundant workers in Scotland less so I imagine.
Incidentally, Wales is not a Principality, it was once, but isn't now. Google it and find out!

Jane10 Mon 13-Mar-17 20:52:48

Oh please do roses!
