I think I'm more cross about Frogmore Cottage than anything else in the H&M saga.

I'm not bothered about the reports that staff have been 'let go' because why would they be needed unless 'opening up' the house for a proposed visit and they are being moved to other positions so not being made redundant. What is galling is, I hope, something that others on here will relate to.

We are of an age where we look back on a life in our homes. Working hard to be able to afford them, budgeting to furnish and decorate them, bringing up our families in them, losing loved ones in them and maybe having to move due to old age and infirmity. Be it ever so humble, our homes have been our lives.

The casual discarding of Frogmore Cottage by Harry and Meghan - something that was handed to them on a plate, renovated by and protected at taxpayers' expense is a real kick in the teeth. We all have family members who either can't afford to get on the property ladder or who are working their whatsits off to pay for the home they are so proud of.

I doubt they will ever live in it again. All that money has been wasted and a beautiful home will stand empty. angry

Vert trivial, I know, but it has just occurred to me why there was all the secrecy over the birth of the baby and the christening. The parents registered their brand before the baby's birth, and were/are intending to use it for sole publication rights.

Well, I don't know about you but I can't contain my excitement.

Maybe the Queen and Charles could see the way things were going and it was offered as a carrot to keep them close. If so, it’s backfired.

The fact that Meghan has been out and about in Canada and posting pictures herself about herself, is really not good. I thought she wanted to get away from media attention and yet here she is courting it again.
It’s difficult to know what to believe, but we are not strangers on here, to woman alienating their husbands family, so that they have total control over their husbands themselves.
Meghan is way more intelligent than Harry but also bruised and battered by poor decisions that she has made herself.

The whole thing is a mess and I think Harry should have been more circumspect and thought with his head..not his nether region before marrying anyone. He has a myriad of examples of marriage breakdowns, in his immediate family.
Anybody with an ounce of sense could foresee huge difficulties with their relationship.
His own brother asked him to wait and make sure that Meghan understood the pressures she was going to be under....and he ignored him.

Growing0ldDisgracefully Fri 17-Jan-20 10:49:13

If these properties are being maintained on behalf of the nation, does it mean we can all go and use them......

Lesley60 Fri 17-Jan-20 10:51:21

Merlotgran I totally agree with you, they appear to have no concern about wasting Taxpayers money, they should have paid for the refurbishments out of their own millions.
I doubt very much we will get it back and why should other over indulged royals benefit from the house when we have spent money on it, I think they should donate the money we spent on them to a Hospital.

Reddevil3 Fri 17-Jan-20 10:56:12

I don’t live in the uk but am a royalist. I think they married too quickly. She got her prince, and don’t think she ever intended to live in the uk in the long run anyway.
I love interior design. It would be fantastic to be able to do it with no budgetary constraints. What fun it must have been!
But the trouble is that once it’s finished, the excitement is over.
As somebody said, you never appreciate something which is handed to you on a plate. I feel sorry for both of them.
Prising him away from his family, poor man.

Marjgran Fri 17-Jan-20 10:56:57

Oh please! Thank goodness for Rosecarmel and the occasional sensible post. We treat these folk as our playthings. They are humans, I doubt any more flawed than the rest of us. We live in a monarchy. These expenses and dramas go with the territory! I suspect a lot of veiled racism...

grannymy Fri 17-Jan-20 10:57:42

Yes it does seem a great shame when there are so many people homeless. Some have too much whereas others have nothing. It's an ill divided world.

I wonder if Meghan has now got the status she craved and doesn’t really need Harry any more. I wonder if this is the beginning of her breaking away from the RF and him. If she is unlikely to return to England as some commentators are saying what about Archie ? Will we see him on the balcony on special occasions or will he just be totally detached from this side of the family? All very sad but he has behaved foolishly and I fear he will have plenty to regret very soon. I think they are both behaving very childishly and treating this situation as a bit of a game, both being in their 30’s is rather embarrassing.

Marjgran Fri 17-Jan-20 11:04:11

What is embarrassing is the preoccupation, and assumption making, of the press and public. The young royals are on situations we can barely imagine and being a black immigrant to it must be extraordinary. Who knows the different motivations? Let it be!

4allweknow Fri 17-Jan-20 11:04:49

Rosecarmel. Spot on. I thought H & M intended to use Frogmore on their visits to the UK. Security has been set ip so that makes sense, at the moment. Not sure if there has been something new to indicates they now want nothing to do with the property. The couple allegedly did pay for a bit of the house improvements, albeit a small bit.

Why are you all getting so cross about a place that has nothing to do with us, the renovation of which hasn't been at our expense, and that we have no idea what the future is for it? Would you have preferred for it to remain in a dated and rundown state? Mystifies me that anyone can waste so much energy on a subject when all they know is the crap put out by the evil tabloid press. Step away from the Daily Mail, people - those tabloid newspapers are very the reason Frogmore might well be left untenanted! All that disgusting toxic reporting - anyone REALLY surprised at the outcome?

eilys Fri 17-Jan-20 11:06:50

There was two people involved here, not just Megan, both greedy individuals

Marjgran Fri 17-Jan-20 11:07:53

Oh well said Paperback writer! These posts show how wise the young royals may be to emigrate...

Marjgran Fri 17-Jan-20 11:08:38

Jeepers it gets worse. Enough to turn me into a royalist. Can’t we all get a life?

pinkquartz Fri 17-Jan-20 11:10:12

I am cross because it really sums up the huge difference between M&H and all the poor people without a home.

They do not have a clue!

They are so arrogant it means nothing to them. M is not an immigrant...she is currently American and a Royal......

Craftycat Fri 17-Jan-20 11:10:32

Firstly I do not have a racist bone in my body but that woman is trouble! What on earth possessed him to marry a minor 'star'? She was always going to call the shots & it would lead to trouble. Thank the Lord his brother chose a woman who knew what she was getting into & is graceful & ready to do what a Royal wife has to do!
Let them go to Canada- I give it 3 years max & he will be home with his tail between his legs wanting a home & money. The divorce should be entertaining anyway.
I hope the Queen hangs on in there as long as possible as I dread Charles being King as well.

Daisymae Fri 17-Jan-20 11:11:55

It does not seem that they want to get away from media attention. They want to control it. I guess for financial gain so that they do not have to be bound by the royal family. I think that we are going to see lots of them.

Paperbackwriter Fri 17-Jan-20 11:13:28

PS Callistemon - there never was a copper bath. That was a stupid non-story in the Mail, apparently, designed entirely to indicate profligacy and stir up the ignorant masses to a frenzy of "disgusted, Tunbridge Wells" level.

Marjgran Fri 17-Jan-20 11:15:06

Most of our homes are paradise in comparison to someone on the globe. We have a monarchy. It is flawed. Many of the royals are apparently rather racist. Let them find their own way without us adding to the drama. What a holier than thou set of posts

Ngaio1 Fri 17-Jan-20 11:15:13

Didn't Meghan play her cards well!! She stayed with Harry at Sandringham before marriage (a first for the Queen) had a dream wedding, has a title ( take away her HRH) and the Royals have to keep her in style because of baby Archie. William was so right.

Tigertooth Fri 17-Jan-20 11:15:33

I think it should be turned into really luxury holiday accommodation and offered free to ex servicemen - a fitting gift from Harry,

Marjgran Fri 17-Jan-20 11:16:43

Another sane post from
Paperbackwriter

Marjgran Fri 17-Jan-20 11:18:50

Tigertooth have you not read? It isn’t Harry’s to gift

Tigertooth Fri 17-Jan-20 11:20:39

Marjgran
This is not about race!
It’s getting ridiculous that if we want to make a criticism of a person it’s fine if they are white but if they are black (which Meghan is not anyway) then we are not allowed to.
Meghan has had too much life experience to suddenly slot into royal life and she couldn’t do it. It was a bad match but not a race issue.
