Former Tory supporter and rocker Sir Roderick Stewart (78) backs Labour and offers to pay for public to have scans.
He phoned Sky News ‘while working on his model railway’ smile

He's atoning for the time in the 80s when he flew back from his home in LA to vote Tory, and proudly proclaiming what he'd done!

FannyCornforth Fri 27-Jan-23 08:37:42

I must say, I’ve always thought that he was a bit of a n*b, but he’s growing on me.
He’s quite eccentric.
And Penny Lancaster seems so lovely, so he must be okay.
(I often judge men by the calibre of their other half!)

Well done Rod!

Oh Fanny! ... I have the loveliest husband... I often wonder how he ended up with me (and why he stuck it out). grin... that surely doesn't work!

BlueBelle Fri 27-Jan-23 08:48:54

Agree about the nob bit Fanny but well done him
Perhaps he could persuade some of the highly paid politicians and business people to follow suit

Iam64 Fri 27-Jan-23 08:51:30

I hope he’ll speak out on the jolly wheeze that was agreed by the cabinet at Chequers this week. They’ve decided to attack the opposition for talking the country down. Their focus will be on how wonderful it is for all of us. Yipppee

FannyCornforth Fri 27-Jan-23 08:54:41

Yes! We’ve never had it so good!

Rod Stewart lived next door to friends in Epping.

He is a thoroughly good man, his partying days are long behind him.

Well done Rod 👍

Oops sorry Sir Rod 👍

Rod repaired potholes outside his home.

I wonder if they're the same friends.

He's a good friend of my hairdresser and has been spotted in her salon.

His son is in the same football team as her son and they often share lifts to football practice.

Any excuse to have a go at those of us who vote Conservative…

Only if they are farmers?

I've always been a fan, but once he started repairing potholes, and talking about his train set, I love him- and his volunteering wife .

FannyCornforth Fri 27-Jan-23 09:26:22

It’s nice to hear such nice things about him.
I’d forgotten about the potholes!

Three Cheers for Sir Roderick of Epping! 👏👏👏

So what? He may be famous, but his opinions are no more important and of no more value than anyone elses.

FannyCornforth Fri 27-Jan-23 10:21:54

Monica
Well, it’s on the front page of all the papers , and is being reported on Australian breakfast TV.

I thought it was thread worthy.

I don’t think that anyone at all thinks that his views are more important.
That would be daft

Plus - he has publicly offered to pay for strangers’ medical care.
That is incredibly laudable

M0nica Fri 27-Jan-23 10:26:30

I am sure worth a discussion FannyCornforth. Surely the fact that the political views of a popular singer are considered headline news is worth discussing.

Lots of well off people are touched by individual cases of tragedy or disaster and help people financially. Look at how all George Michael's(?) many such acts of assisatnce became known after his death. Many other people, famous or not, who have the money, are no doubt helping others as well.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 27-Jan-23 10:29:54

So let’s praise those we do know about, whether rich or poor.

Yammy Fri 27-Jan-23 10:35:19

Well done him. So what? He changes his ideas so do a lot of us. At least he has a social conscience. Good for him.

FannyCornforth Fri 27-Jan-23 10:36:40

A lot of people knew of Michael’s generosity prior to his death.

Perhaps I should ask for this thread to be deleted as it’s not worthy of discussion?
Perhaps I should have put it in Chat? 🤷‍♀️
But seeing as the MSM have decided it’s news; it’s news regardless

Leave it here Fanny there is absolutely nothing wrong with highlighting news items, even if some think they are irrelevant.

It makes a change to read about a good news item instead of the constant bad news drip feed of late.

There is that thing called personal choice, if you are not interested don’t read or post on the thread.
