I know we helped nina (or not!) so I am hoping you can help us as we are stuck for a name for the kitten we are keeping. She was born in June

I will continue to try taking a photo of her but she is a short haired, dark tabby with white bib and wellies.

We have two other cats - an all black male born during the Rugby World Cup - his name is Kiwi.

The kitten's Mum was born in May and is, therefore, called Maisie.

Please help - inspiration has dried up in the Lester household.

We give our cars great names when we first get them but they seem to grow into different ones as time goes on:eg Buddy turned into Spud and YumYum into Dollface. I dare'nt tell you what Baz is usually called these days.
Good luck but don't rush into a name too soon!

Jane10 Fri 03-Aug-18 13:07:17

Sigh. Why won't my phone believe I was talking about cats not cars!

One of our daughters has a Mog clone - and called it Mog!

I suggested Tabitha but was told that the name of a witche's cat! confused

The Naming Of Cats by T. S. Eliot

The Naming of Cats is a difficult matter,
It isn't just one of your holiday games;
You may think at first I'm as mad as a hatter
When I tell you, a cat must have THREE DIFFERENT NAMES.
First of all, there's the name that the family use daily,
Such as Peter, Augustus, Alonzo or James,
Such as Victor or Jonathan, George or Bill Bailey--
All of them sensible everyday names.
There are fancier names if you think they sound sweeter,
Some for the gentlemen, some for the dames:
Such as Plato, Admetus, Electra, Demeter--
But all of them sensible everyday names.
But I tell you, a cat needs a name that's particular,
A name that's peculiar, and more dignified,
Else how can he keep up his tail perpendicular,
Or spread out his whiskers, or cherish his pride?
Of names of this kind, I can give you a quorum,
Such as Munkustrap, Quaxo, or Coricopat,
Such as Bombalurina, or else Jellylorum-
Names that never belong to more than one cat.
But above and beyond there's still one name left over,
And that is the name that you never will guess;
The name that no human research can discover--
But THE CAT HIMSELF KNOWS, and will never confess.
When you notice a cat in profound meditation,
The reason, I tell you, is always the same:
His mind is engaged in a rapt contemplation
Of the thought, of the thought, of the thought of his name:
His ineffable effable
Effanineffable
Deep and inscrutable singular Name.

We found 2 tiny abandoned kittens and adopted them. They are so small that it's difficult to sex them so they are Jack and Joe ( step daughter thinks they are male) but they may be Jackie and Josie!??

kittylester Fri 03-Aug-18 13:25:30

You're forgiven phoenix.

We had a cat years ago who, due to having four white wellies was called 'Bootsie' a la 'Bootsie and Snudge'!
We also had one who was the image of Sylvester, and was then discovered to be female, so became Sylvie!
My DGM had a cat called Pyewacket, as in a witches familiar. With the best will in the world, I have to admit that DGM could be a tad on the vicious side, so it was a singularly appropriate name!
Are her wellies tall Kitty, or is she a 'socks'?

paddyann Fri 03-Aug-18 13:36:17

call her Baby ,a white bib and socks ...what else would she be called .lol
We lost our 2 year old cat 2 weeks ago ,,he was hit by a car.He did have a name but was affectionately known as "The Beast " because of his biting habit ...we miss him.Enjoy your Missy whatever you call her .

Many years ago, when asked the name of their new kitten, the two maiden ladies who lived next door said to my mother , 'Oh, we just call her our little pussy.'
It was years before I understood why she had great difficulty in not laughing, and why my father did burst out laughing when she told him.

kittylester Fri 03-Aug-18 13:44:06

Missy was something we came up with paddyann but decided it was too like Maisie.

Dh does call her Baby but calls all the granddaughters that when he can't get to their name quickly enough!!!

She has wellies, juggernaut, but we've had one called Wellie and one called Boots.

I suggested Dottie or Dorothy but we have a dgd called Lottie.

It's a problem!
