I think it’s great that more and more, we see older, even old, women, still enjoying striking fashion and looking ‘sharp’! I’m not into throw away season-to-season fashion, but I have always enjoyed wearing clothes with a bit of edge, a bit quirky maybe. I used to wear a lot of Boden, I like a bit of Hush and The White Company and have just discovered Baukjen. I’d love to know what other ranges Gransnetters like.

So would I, so I'm bumping this thread. grin

kittylester Wed 02-Sep-20 20:50:36

I love Seasalt for tops.

Ninarosa Wed 02-Sep-20 20:51:20

Baukjen have forty percent off clothing if a key worker emails their ID. A very good incentive to try the brand if it's new to you.

No matter what you might choose, do NOT be tempted to order anything from Airy Dress (or whatever they might be calling themselves)

Their adds pop up frequently on GN, the clothes are awful, nothing like the photos, and they are a bloody nightmare to deal with it trying to get a refund!angry

Sosandar , Cos, And Other Stories,Uniqlo. Anthropologie are different but pricey, and I've had some lovely knitted tops from Mango.

janeainsworth Wed 02-Sep-20 21:04:55

Today it was Uniqlo (jacket) Hobbs (velvet jeans) 20-year-old Topshop(blouse) and LK Bennett (cardi). Boots from a discount store in Virginia.

Do beware though. Recently there was a thread denouncing posters who divulged what brands they wore on the grounds they were 'bragging'. grin

And somebody else was very rude about some choices - I remember the Bombshell dress coming in for some stick!

I like Seasalt, Joules, White Stuff, Sahara, Uniqlo, the occasional M&S with shoes from Rieker, Gabor and also Hotter or Rieker Boots.

kittylester Wed 02-Sep-20 21:17:49

Oh Moshulu shoes.

But who says we are cool?

janeainsworth Wed 02-Sep-20 21:20:16

Ooh I love my Bombshell dresses Maw grin

I love Mango for tops and have a few jackets from Zara. Mint Velvet have some lovely clothes.

Nobody - but at least 'cool' and 'sharp' make a change from the usual 'stylish' and 'smart'. I'm waiting now for the inevitable silk scarves, cashmere, etc. and I see the usual brands mentioned. Do people get discounts for advertising them here?

Magsymoo Wed 02-Sep-20 21:31:32

I'm quite partial to Oxfam, local hospice shop, BHF shop. Good prices, ecologically sound, avoiding landfill, and you can pick up a few books to read while you are there. Sorted!

NanKate Wed 02-Sep-20 21:36:07

One Hundred Stars if you fancy going oriental.

No
If you ask for your favourite bands, what do expect to get in reply?

I like White Stuff, Seasalt, Joules, Phase 8, sometimes M&S and Next. Also, my trendy local Barnardo's charity shop!

kittylester Wed 02-Sep-20 21:58:47

Sainsburys are good for tops.

Poppyred Wed 02-Sep-20 22:10:18

I love Fat Face at the moment.

Callistemon Wed 02-Sep-20 22:45:14

Just looked at the knitwear on the Baukjen website and am now scrabbling through my yarn stash instead.
£169 for a jumper? You must be kidding.

Lucca Wed 02-Sep-20 22:48:00

A propos of style etc do you ever ask complete strangers where they bought something ? I do.

Callistemon Wed 02-Sep-20 22:56:23

White Stuff are really not good quality, their tops stretch and two tops have developed holes.
The only other garments to do the same were a couple of cheapie tops DD bought from H&M.

Doodledog Wed 02-Sep-20 23:07:47

For dresses and tops I like Masai, Sahara and Oska. I knit my own jumpers, and I like Uniqlo for jeans and trousers, although my lockdown weight gain is putting me off wearing them just now .

Scribbles Wed 02-Sep-20 23:46:36

Another vote for Seasalt tops here. I also like Nomads and Lands End for clothes; shoes and boots from Moshulu, Josef Siebel and Hotter.

Uniqlo for jeans, t shirts, jackets and coats. Cos for quirkier oversized jumpers and dresses.

I like Masai but only in the sales. I couldn’t tell you the brand of some of my favourites pieces and can’t go look because it’s the middle of the night and don’t want to wake up dh. They were bought in small independent shops.
A lot of M & S bright coloured linen dresses with navy leggings. Also their ankle skimmers with thigh or knee length tops. Quite a bit from TK Maxx for quirky tops. Some from my friend who is an avid shopper but then changes her mind. I do pay her something ?
Laced canvas pumps from Asda. Sparkly flats. Nice leather flat lace ups in navy. Pale blue suede lace ups. All Mostly Clark’s. Pink suede flats. Also Hotter and Reiker.
Taupe ankle boots from Clark’s with small stacked heel for when I need to be smart, flat Hotter leather slouch boots and Lace up tan walking boots for winter. Also grey suede Gabor lace up pumps that were £5 in a charity shop.
A couple of pairs of navy and black quality tapered trousers for smart occasions.
One outfit 3 pieces of dress, slouchy trousers and slouchy short overtop in camel stretch jersey which is my go-to for smart events worn with gold sparkly flats. It cost quite a bit 3 years ago and was worth every penny. It is quirky and comfy, looks a bit different. Will never date. Can dress it up or down. Would do a wedding with said gold flats or just a nice lunch with lace up canvas.
Love my calf length cardicoats.
Nothing is ever full price and many pieces have been £5 or £10 in sales.
Base a lot on navy, grey, camel so they all match.
