Fake Tan

I rather think this may act as a warning to others who forsake the natural sun element........and its scary risks of premature wrinkles...... and worse still,skin cancers.

Sadly all is never quite as it states on any packet, and now complete with orange glow, you serve to tell us to adhere strictly to the written instructions Teetime.....or else!

You certainly will not get much of a "glow" with this Whitsun weather thats for sure!

Switch to the M&S one it's more subtle than the Clarins one I find.

You can of course add any fake tan to your own moisturiser.

If you have gone orange with the clarins one I recommend you try the overnight flow instead of the tanning drops

Glow not flow

I use the Elemis glow cream,its great just a hint of colour .I dont like a tan my skin just looks dirty ,but this makes my face look healthier ..I think .

If ever I use self tan cream I always go for the "fair skin" option and up until now have not had real problems just a hint of colour gives you such a boost to your confidence.
Its best also to apply early evening so the cream can soak into your skin or your pillow cases will have a healthy glow to them

I also use the M&S one which I mix 2 drops with my normal moisturiser. I find it works very well.

Anyone who even considers using fake tan should look at Donald Trump and think again.

I think most people just want a bit of a healthy glow

I use Tan-Luxe drops in my normal moisturiser and find they give just a subtle glow - there are ones for the face and a different one for the body. Unfortunately over the years I've used everything and had fake tans done at the salon and also spray ones. I don't have naturally tanning skin so think that's why they don't always look right on me.

For my face - I apply moisturiser first. and let it sink in a bit. Then I use this Clarins self tanning milky lotion sparingly all over face. Then I add a second tiny amount over my cheeks, for more of a glow, so no blusher needed. It just looks natural, not orange at all.

I use a moisturiser which already has a bit of fake tan build it. Very subtle.

You’d think someone with Trump’s millions could afford a natural looking fake tan. What’s with the whites circles round his little piggy eyes?

Old Meg , I think the white circles round Trumps eyes are meant to look like the fake tan is real,and that's where his sunglasses would leave white circles, whatever his reason , he looks very odd,

I always thought the white panda eyes of trump were from the tanning goggles he wears while having a spray tan. Imagine that ..yuk!!!
Years ago ,many years ago I was getting ready for work and remembered a sample I had got in the mail the day before , it was a tanning lotion for the face . I put it on and saw no difference so put on a little more. Off I went to work half way through my working day I noticed people looking at me in a funny way , including friends, colleagues and customers. When I went to the staff restaurant for lunch I looked in the mirror and was mortified, my face was tango orange with tango brownish orange around my mouth and eyebrows. I washed my face and scrubbed as well as I could and then ended up very patchy but had to finish my working day and dreaded going back in the department but thought the only way I could get through this was with humour which I did .We all had a good laugh about my gradually tanning face and I told off my so called friends for not saying anything ,apparently they wondered what on earth was happening as time went on . When I got home I read the sample packet and it was a self tanning lotion that you use sparingly as it tans gradually and fades with time over a few days it ,does not wash off . Hence my patchy face when I washed it .
It taught me to read things before using and to exfoliate before tanning.

PANACHE. You wouldn’t be advocating real sunshine instead of fake tan if your mother and neice ( aged 37 who died 6 weeks after having first child ) both died of melanoma!!! And they weren’t even sun worshipers! In this day and age of sunscreens anyone with a modicum of common sense woukd be grateful of what we didn’t have when we were griwing uom. ANY change in colour represents iraversable sun damage! Who wants to look westhered to lesther. Not a good look! Sunscreen should be used every day as uva rays dont give you any sensory feedback but they are there everybday. Goodness, I hope you don’t advocate tanning to the younger members of your family! Completely irresponsible. Are you not aware of the rise in skin cancers in this country. And a daily dose of vit d supplement is better than exposing yourself to un damage !

I haven't used fake tan since I was a teenager - I recall it made me a look bit orange. I prefer to look 'pale and interesting' - if others don't like it it doesn't bother me. That's one of the advantages of getting older - you care less about what other people think of you.
My twin loved sunbathing and it hasn't really done her any good at all.

My two best friends in summer are SPF30 and this hat I bought for £5 in Primark on Saturday.

123coco I am so sorry to hear about your mother and niece and hearing about awful happenings like theirs should act as a warning to us all.

However, I don't think that Panache was recommending that we bake ourselves in the sun until we are leathery, at least her post didn't come across as that to me.

Sunshine is the best source of Vitamin D but in moderation only - minutes of exposure, not hours.

I like the hat!

So much osteoporosis could be prevented if people would allow sunshine to create Vitamin D in their bodies. The thing is not to burn, ever.

That is understandable in the light of your bereavements 123coco but harsh.
Vitamin D shortage can be a medical problem in itself, there are still apparently cases of Rickets among some inner city dwellers, especially those who for whatever reason, do not go out of doors much, and as with all things, moderation is the answer.

Indeed MawBroon - there are cases of rickets in children now because their parents have been so careful never to expose them to sunlight, using high factor sunscreens, hats etc.

I think that UV swimwear for young children is excellent, especially in hot, sunny climates, as it does protect but doesn't cover completely, therefore allowing some exposure to the sun.

We may all have examples to prove the theory one way or another. DH had an aunt who used to bake in the sun and her skin was quite leathery; however, she was still hiking at age 90 and went on to live well into her 90s.

Back to the OP - does fake tan still have that strange smell?

I remember using some overnight years ago and thinking that I'd be smelling very odd the next day!

I bought some Dove self tanning body lotion, and have been very pleased. You need about four generous applications to get anywhere like a suntan, but one application gives a light ‘biscuity’ colour which makes it possible to go without tights on a warm day. It doesn’t streak, and is beautifully moisturising.

P. S. It doesn’t smell horrid either!
