Get those smiley faces etc onto my message? Thanks.

greenmossgiel Tue 06-Sep-11 21:24:20

Woody, type one of these [ then if you want a 'smile' you then type the word smile then type one of these ]. Whatever 'emoticon' you want to use, you follow the same process eg grin, confused etc. smile

Alternatively, highlight, copy and paste whichever emoticon you want to use. grin

I always forget, but have taught myself to scroll a bit, and Voila! There are all the instructions at the bottom of the page below the "Add you message here" bit.

Ganja Tue 11-Oct-11 08:52:42

Thanks for all this. I had been longing to use the emoticons, but not techy enough to work out how. My posts should be most interesting in future.thanks

Ganja Fri 14-Oct-11 23:46:48

Mind you, they don't always work! Tech Is there some way of bookmarking a post? I sometimes feel that I would really like to answer a post, but haven't got time at the moment, or could provide an answer to something, but have to go and look it up. On a long thread it can take ages to try and find the Gransnetter one is looking for. Grateful for elegant cyber solution.

jinglej Sat 15-Oct-11 08:56:48

Ganja, you can "watch" a post if you click on "Watching" in the bar just above the topic title.

jinglej Sat 15-Oct-11 09:00:05

No. that's a bit wrong. You click on "watch this thread" first. Just under "flip" and "customise" up the top. Then you go into "watching" to get the thread back.

Ganja Sat 15-Oct-11 23:53:04

Thanks jinglej I'll try that.

GeraldineGransnet (GNHQ) Sun 16-Oct-11 18:55:02

Has it worked, Ganja? Just checking everything doing what it should.

Ganja Mon 17-Oct-11 16:32:48

GeraldineGransnet Don't think I've quite got the hang of this yet. It brought
Up the thread, which even my ancient brain can retain, but didn't tell me which of 17 pages was the one I wanted.confused

JosieGransnet (GNHQ) Mon 17-Oct-11 17:12:28

Hi Ganja, you're right, you can't bookmark one post in the middle of the conversation. The 'watching' feature will only get you to the right discussion, not the right post.

If you think this would be a useful addition, just start a thread in site stuff to see if lots of people agree and we can see if Tech would be able to sort this out.

Hope that helps!

Ganja Tue 18-Oct-11 09:02:11

JosieGransnet I think this is going to be quite complicated, because names pop up quite frequently as the chat goes too and fro. Perhaps it is the subject one needs to bookmark, ie book or film title. I'll go on thinking about it, but could Tech apply his/her cyber brain to the problem and see what we can come up with. Stillconfused!l

JosieGransnet (GNHQ) Tue 18-Oct-11 09:22:29

Ok, that sounds interesting. I can imagine how you could bookmark one post, but I'm not sure what you mean about bookmarking a book or film title - could you explain a bit more?

jinglej Tue 18-Oct-11 09:24:15

Couldn't you bookmark the actual page on your computer itself? Then when you clicked on it it would at least take you to the one of the seventeen pages you wanted to see.

Think this would work.

But I haven't had my brew yet.

Gally Tue 18-Oct-11 09:57:55

Josie I am having a problem on my photos page. I can only edit the last photo as the 'save' and 'edit' options are obscured on all the others. I have to jiggle them all around to do each one individually and I get in a right pickle I can tell you. Maybe my photos are too big? Can you advise please.confused

JosieGransnet (GNHQ) Tue 18-Oct-11 10:10:46

jinglej is right, Ganja. You can save the page of the discussion you got to as a bookmark on your computer, and that will take you back to the right page.

Gally, we're not sure what is going on with your photos. Our photos seem to be working fine. Could you email us a screenshot at all? Or a more detailed description of exactly what each photo says?
