Is it my imagination or are the storylines becoming rather tired and mundane? It was really entertaining to begin with and as each Inpsector has taken on the lead role they've given the main character their individual spin but it seems a bit lacking now!

Callistemon Sun 02-Feb-20 16:48:05

Ralf Little is on his way but when I read that the new Inspector is nervous and comes out in a rash I did think, 'oh no, I'm irritated already' grin
I haven't got used to the other new characters yet.

The scenery's lovely but I wouldn't want to go there!

And why does a British Inspector get sent out to a French Caribbean island?
The sergeants come from France, the constables and Commissioner are local confused

Ellianne Sun 02-Feb-20 17:39:52

I like the scenery too but the constant change of inspectors from the UK is tiresome. Now a dashing French man would prove a welcome change, but maybe he would spend too much time drinking and having liaisons. Sacré bleu!

Scenery lovely as you say but you wouldn’t want to live there would you? Bad as Midsomer for body count!

Callistemon Sun 02-Feb-20 19:34:32

Far too dangerous!

Im sorry Ardal left, I will see what this new bloke is like and then decide if I continue watching. Ruby is awful, I wish they would transfer her somewhere. I personally think the series is at the end of the line. Since Dwayne left it's not really been the same and as one poster said, the now constant change of characters. Its time they wrapped this up.

I quite like the burst of colour and reggae music in bleak January. The stories are a bit silly but it's easy viewing.

Cherrytree59 Sun 02-Feb-20 22:35:55

At least Harry is consistent.?

Callistemon Sun 02-Feb-20 22:41:16

We never see JP' wife Rosey any more and she must be getting rather fed up with the amount of time he spends in the bar drinking with his colleagues.

DillytheGardener Sun 02-Feb-20 22:42:10

As Jane10 said I enjoy the splash of colour. I wasn’t a huge fan of the last inspector but very much enjoyed the first two detectives. I also don’t care for ruby or the replacement of the inspectors female assistant/sidekick. I also miss Dwayne, he was a bit of a laugh. Ruby is a bit forced. I still watch but don’t look forward to new episodes like I used to.

Callistemon Sun 02-Feb-20 22:43:27

How many Harrys do you think there are?
Do they escape?

LullyDully Mon 03-Feb-20 08:29:20

I did wonder why the inspector has to be white male in these days of diversity. Why not give the part to a Caribbean actor? I just hope the new man can liven things up this series has been so lack lustre.

I used to love this show but like you say it has become a bit samey! Love the scenery and usually the storylines were good but it hasn’t been the same since Dwayne left.

Oldwoman70 Mon 03-Feb-20 08:53:31

Callistemon Sorry to tell you but Harry is computer generated

Callistemon Mon 03-Feb-20 10:25:46

Oh no, Oldwoman!
I just thought there were a number of Harry's!!

Happygirl79 Mon 03-Feb-20 11:13:51

I just can't stand the series
Seems very 80s to me
The only good part of it is the scenery

Franbern Tue 04-Feb-20 13:45:57

I agree with Jane10, this series is always a must for me to brighten up the dismal January and February weeks. They have never been particularly wonderful as murder mysteries, but are very easy and pleasant watches.

Keeper1 Tue 04-Feb-20 13:51:58

I think as it is a French Production they see the British character as bumbling, a bit standoffish well the fort two were but fantastic sleuths. A stereotypical perhaps?

Keeper1 Tue 04-Feb-20 13:52:18

That should be sterotype

Callistemon Tue 04-Feb-20 13:55:40

Every one has reminded me of Poirot, who was Belgian and quirky, Keeper1, in the way they gather all the suspects together at the end then announce the culprit.

Ellianne Tue 04-Feb-20 14:02:45

You might be right Keeper1. When you watch French TV they even call Midsomer Murders "Inpecteur Barnaby" because they love the self contained English gentleman character. Personally give me Julien Baptiste any day!

Callistemon Tue 04-Feb-20 14:07:15

Whilst Americans always choose an Englishman for the baddie in films.

What a nerve! grin

Coolgran65 Tue 04-Feb-20 14:52:08

Easy watching tho I could never get Father Ted out of my head when watching Ardel, much as I like Ardel.

Agree that Ruby is like a caricature.... Too ott.

LullyDully Tue 04-Feb-20 17:28:30

I think she based herself on Miss Lou who was a Jamaican comedienne. She is a caricature but at least she has a pulse unlike the rest of them. Imo.
