Did anyone watch it last night? BBC1 9pm....I quite enjoyed it.....mainly because I really like Alison Steadman

When I saw that ‘Life’ was from the same writer as ‘Doctor Foster’, I wasn’t overwhelmed as although everyone raved about DF, I didn’t think it was very good, and would have hated to have her as my GP.

Enjoying a programme is very much "each to their own" isn't it? Alison Steadman has always appealed to me but I can hardly bear to watch anything in which the gurning, over acting Suranne Jones is in!! I cannot think why she has so much coverage. She (to my way of thinking) plays every role in the same manner. Perhaps her nasal voice is what irritates.

I’ve just binge watched this Life, well it is pouring with rain, I loved it, the star of the drama for me was Victoria Hamilton, who played Belle, absolutely shone with her portrayal of a complicated women, inspired acting.

I know what you mean about Suranne Jones, but I thought her role in ‘Gentleman Jack’, (think that’s the right title) was well acted.
I agree about the gurning though.
Mind you, to me Alison Steadman has fallen into the trap of sounding the same in every role, and I always think that when she speaks in a more ‘posh’ voice, it sounds artificial.

I haven’t bread all of the comments in case there are spoilers and I’ve only just started watching it. I wondered if the house z(the outside of it) is the same one as the one in Years and Years? It reminds me of it. I’m enjoying it thus far.

The theme tune and music is by Guy Garvey from the band Elbow. He is married to Rachel Stirling who is one of the cast.Playing the dead wife.Sorry can't remember the name as not watched it for a few days.Saving it up for a binge !

Sparklefizz Tue 06-Oct-20 18:53:26

And isn't Rachel Stirling the daughter of Diana Rigg, or have I got that wrong?

Calendargirl Tue 06-Oct-20 19:30:03

Yes, Sparklefizz she is Diana Rigg’s daughter.
Looks so like her at similar age.

I binge watched and loved it. It doesn't bother me much that there were a few loose ends.

The music I recognised instantly. My all time favourite singer songwriter - Guy Garvey. He heads the band Elbow and comes from Bury. He writes the most beautiful meaningful lyrics.

He wrote the theme song My Angel and in one episode My Sad Captains was played. (another song he wrote). It always makes me cry.

DH & I ended up watching the last 4 episodes last night. Some characters developed really well and by some excellent actors...the storylines may have been exaggerated but that is what entertainment is about!
My biggest gripe was how those very different households all afforded the accommodation in that same property.

I particularly liked Ellen Kelkyman's performance, she is a good young actor and stood up well to the more well known names.

Maybee70 No, it is not the same house. There are a lot of similar properties around South Manchester and Stockport. Also, the outside of the pub where her birthday party took place was a different pub to the inside. Both pubs are near where we live.

I used to live in Manchester: Eccles. And worked in the town centre. I haven’t been back for over 40 years....it looks so different! I’ve just binge watched both Us and Life and now feel mentally drained!
